Daddy, Mommy Ran Away - Chapter 148 - Torment and Punishment
Worried that An Ruoxi would be too heartbroken alone in the room, and her frail body couldn’t bear it, Leng Haoyin called Moli and Qiuling to hurry over.
“Brother Leng, what happened? You said Ruoxi was crying?” As soon as Zhan Moli got out of the car, she saw Leng Haoyin standing straight outside the door, his gaze fixed on it, like a puppet.
“Yes, what’s wrong with Ruoxi?” Leng Qiuling was also extremely anxious. Everything had been fine, and they were supposed to get engaged in a month. Why was there suddenly a problem? And it seemed serious.
Leng Haoyin finally took his eyes back, his resolute and cold face suddenly looked much more haggard. “You should go in and check on her. I’m afraid she might faint from crying.”
“Oh, okay. Sister-in-law, we’ll go in first,” Moli said, still calling her sister-in-law although Brother and sister-in-law had divorced five years ago. In her heart, Leng Qiuling was always her favorite sister-in-law.
Hearing the long-missed term ‘sister-in-law,’ Leng Qiuling visibly stiffened, then turned to persuade Leng Haoyin before following Moli: “You should go home first. Standing here won’t make sister-in-law want to see you. Go rest for a while and come back later.”
As they entered the villa, the spacious hall echoed with the fragmented sobs of a woman, so heartbreakingly sad and gut-wrenchingly painful. An Ruoxi sat on the floor, leaning against the sofa, crying inconsolably, her body trembling continuously.
“Ruoxi, what’s wrong? Why are you crying?” Moli compassionately wrapped her arms around Ruoxi and hugged her tightly.
Hearing a familiar voice, An Ruoxi, who was nearly fainting, slightly opened her eyes, regaining a bit of her composure, but when she saw Moli, she cried even harder, all her strength leaning on her, her voice broken and hoarse with uncontrollable sorrow: “Moli, he… he was the one who caused my parents’ car accident.”
“What?” Moli was clearly shocked by this revelation, but dared not ask further. Ruoxi was crying so painfully, the words she spoke must be true, yet there might be some misunderstanding.
“There, there, don’t cry…” She could only keep soothing her back, wiping her tears until she stopped crying, then helped her into the room to lie down.
An Ruoxi’s body was numb from crying, too weak to move, lying in bed while tears still silently streamed down her face. After a while, she cried again, and after a drowsy sleep, when she opened her eyes again, the chandelier light stung her swollen eyes, and it was already completely dark.
“Ruoxi, you’re awake. Do you feel better?” Moli had been watching over her, concerned when she saw her wake up.
“Oh.” An Ruoxi rubbed her aching temples, her eyes painfully sore, almost unable to open them.
“What time is it now?” An Ruoxi asked as she was about to get out of bed, but Moli stopped her: “Just lie down; let me handle things.”
“The children? I haven’t picked them up yet,” An Ruoxi said weakly.
“The children were picked up by their grandfather. They’ll be brought back tomorrow,” Moli explained.
At that moment, Qiuling brought over a bowl of hot porridge: “Are you hungry? Have some porridge.”
“Thank you, Qiuling.” An Ruoxi managed a grateful smile, though it was weak and strained: “I don’t want to eat; I have no appetite.”
“Try to eat a bit. You’ve just recovered; how can you bear it without eating?” Qiuling gently took her hand, softly persuading her, seeing how distressed An Ruoxi looked: “Even if you don’t want to think about yourself, think about the children. If Xiaobao and Xiaobei see you like this, they would be so heartbroken.”
An Ruoxi slowly turned her head to look at her, heartbreakingly realizing, yes, how worried and heartbroken the children must be, just as she was for her beloved parents.
“Yes, Ruoxi, how can I rest easy seeing you like this?” Moli said, her tears about to fall again. She usually didn’t cry, but seeing An Ruoxi like this, she couldn’t help but feel like crying: “If you don’t eat, I’ll cry myself to death right here.”
Perhaps it was Moli’s exaggerated words that made An Ruoxi gently smile: “Alright, I’ll eat.”
Filled with emotion, she managed to swallow a bowl of porridge and leaned back against the bed, her gaze inadvertently drifting towards the window.
“Can’t you really forgive my brother?” Seeing her look towards the window, Leng Qiuling cautiously spoke: “Actually, these past five years, my brother has always blamed himself for Uncle An and your mom’s deaths. Every year on their death anniversary, he would bring flowers.”
An Ruoxi glanced at her, a feeble smile on her lips. Could a bouquet of flowers bring her parents back to life?
“Sister-in-law, you might not know why Uncle An would rather crash into a wall. Because he was grateful to my brother, he always treated him like his own son,” Leng Qiuling gently took her hand, warming her cold palm with her own: “When we first returned to the Leng Family, Uncle An came to see my dad. At that time, Uncle An had offended some powerful people and kept begging my dad to shelter him, but my dad didn’t want to get involved and refused at first. It was my brother who insisted on keeping Uncle An, saying his pregnant wife was so pitiful. That’s why Uncle An and his people have always been good to my brother, even choosing to crash into a wall in that dangerous moment.”
An Ruoxi was stunned, her gaze falling on the glass window, her eyes filled with complex emotions, her mind in turmoil, struggling to digest this news.
“My brother has been standing outside since noon, without eating or drinking, saying he would wait until you were willing to see him.” Understanding that complex look, her heart ached: “Finding someone you love who also loves you, and staying together, is not easy. He loves you, just as you love him. This kind of destiny, this kind of luck, is not something every woman can have. Like me, I foolishly persisted in my love marathon only to end up with endless hurt. But you, fortunate enough to meet someone you love and who loves you back, could you consider this hard-earned relationship and give him another chance? No one wanted this to happen, but since it has, try to be open-minded and not force yourself to pay for that regretful incident alone, okay? Give him another chance, I think Uncle An would also want my brother to take care of you.”
