Chapter 32
After checking for half the night, I released enough pheromone for Gu Haochen and held him as we slept.
The next morning, I was kicked out of bed by him. He held up his phone, glaring angrily, and made me look at the screen.
On the screen was that day’s news, the headline read “Crew CP Turns Real?” I couldn’t make out the content, but at the top was a photo: Wei Lian sitting on my lap, my arm around Wei Lian, our posture ambiguous and intimate, my chin resting in the hollow of Wei Lian’s neck.
“Explain.” Gu Haochen was shaking with anger.
“Ah, that must’ve been taken at yesterday’s dinner.” I yawned, scratched my head as I got up, and still fearlessly went to hug him. “There should be another person on the left side of the photo, that person was trying to harass me, and he was acting as my shield.”
Gu Haochen pushed me away: “He’s an Omega, and he sits on your lap to shield you?”
My face darkened: “What do you mean by that?”
This was the first time I’d given him attitude since our marriage. He was caught off guard, a trace of panic appearing on his face.
I asked coldly, “Are you suspicious of us?”
“But…”
“I may be a jerk, but I’ve never done anything like two-timing. And it’s one thing for you to doubt me, but Lianlian is your childhood friend, you asked him to look after me in the crew, how could you think that of him?”
“Lianlian?” Gu Haochen caught the key point, “You call him Lianlian?”
“Don’t you call him Lianlian too?”
Gu Haochen’s voice suddenly rose: “How long have I known him, and how long have you known him?”
I started to get a headache, rubbing my temples twice: “I’ve been filming nonstop in the crew for two days, after the dinner I rushed three hours by car and two hours by plane to come see you, not to listen to you make a fuss.”
Gu Haochen sensed the fatigue and annoyance in my tone, and for a moment lost control of his emotions, his eyes turning red.
I didn’t comfort him. I waited for him to calm down and come over to hug me himself.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I just feel so anxious inside.” he explained, his head buried against my neck.
I looked down at him. His shoulders were thinner, his collarbones more defined than before, his neck drooping weakly, uncharacteristically fragile.
“You’re just having a hormonal imbalance, that’s why you’re overthinking.” I released pheromone again to soothe him, my palm stroking the back of his neck over and over. “If you really mind, I won’t have any contact with Lianlian outside of work.”
Gu Haochen shook his head slowly: “I’m just overthinking.”
Then he added in a low voice, “I wasn’t like this before.”
