Chapter 13

The lights on the first floor came on.
Gu Xuchen walked over and picked me up, his arm around my waist.
“Let go of me!”
I struggled against him, kicking my legs nonstop.
“Don’t move.”
Gu Xuchen held me on the sofa, gripping my waist and trapping me in his arms. He lifted my skirt up to my knees and pinned down my legs.
His palm was warm.
I shrank back, feeling both embarrassed and angry. I had never imagined that our most intimate moment would happen under such circumstances.
“Gu Xuchen! You pervert!”
“Who was it that kept calling me ‘husband’ before, and now you’re calling me a pervert?”
Gu Xuchen frowned, his chin resting on my shoulder as he lowered his head to check my wound, showing no intention of letting go.
Unable to resist him, my nose tingled and I felt even more wronged:
“I’m calling you that, so what! I’m talking about you!”
“Move again and I’ll deal with you.”
Me: …
Given my struggle just now,
I was now keenly aware that I was no match for Gu Xuchen at all, but I still didn’t want to give in.
“You wouldn’t dare…”
I muttered in protest.
“Try me.”
Gu Xuchen pulled out the first aid kit from under the coffee table, opened it with one hand, and took out a cotton swab and some antiseptic.
I frowned, gradually quieting down, silently watching Gu Xuchen apply the medicine to my wound with the cotton swab, feeling as if I were enveloped in his cool, crisp scent.
Even my breathing felt hot, so shy I didn’t want to speak.
“There’s a new bag out recently. I’ve already had someone order it; it’s in your room.”
Gu Xuchen said softly.
I didn’t respond.
Not until he finished treating my wound and let go of me.
I hurried back upstairs, opened my door, and without a word, grabbed all the new bags he had given me-boxes and all-and tossed them downstairs.
One bag after another went flying down.
Gu Xuchen looked a little annoyed. He stood up and looked at me. “Ye Min!”
What answered him
was the sound of my door slamming shut.
The next day.
I avoided Gu Xuchen and left early to meet a client. While we were talking, the client’s phone rang.
“Huh? What?”
The client was startled.
I kept my head down, flipping through the portfolio. When I saw him burst out laughing at the end, I couldn’t help but ask, “What happened?”
The client was overjoyed. “Oh, I was supposed to attend a meeting today, but the boss was so upset by his wife that he couldn’t sleep all night and called in sick with a headache.”
“Pfft.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “A boss from Jiangdu? What’s his name? Maybe I know him.”
Client: “Gu Xuchen.”
Me: …
