Chapter 13
Thousands of police officers, escorting hundreds of students, marched toward the meeting room as if they were leading prisoners. The students surrounded the police in layers, making the scene highly tense. By this time, Shengze building was completely empty; everyone had descended to witness what this so-called “holy war” was all about.
“Ouch! Ah…”
“What’s wrong?”
“My stomach… it hurts… I… I need to go to the bathroom.”
“What’s the matter?”
“Captain, he says he needs to go to the bathroom.”
The fat policeman looked down at the small, groaning boy crouching on the ground and said, “Let him go.”
Watching the boy’s retreating figure, the fat policeman sighed deeply and muttered, “Sigh… such a small kid going out there is just asking to be a target…” He shook his head and continued walking toward the meeting room.
The small boy ran towards room 1205 in the Zone N dormitory building. After a while, a very elegantly dressed girl emerged from room 1205.
The girl wore yellow high-heeled sandals and looked to be over 1.6 meters tall. She had on brown shorts and black stockings, which accentuated her slender legs, eliciting a sense of compassion in onlookers. Her top was a red short-sleeved shirt that made her look lively; around her neck, she wore a thin gold chain, and on her wrist, a bracelet made of seashells, obviously pure and simple adornments. Her hair was a bob cut, slightly shorter than typical for women, which suited her petite face perfectly. She had a small, pointed nose, small but bright eyes, and thick, sensual lips, creating an overall fresh appearance. However, there were a few red marks on her face, perhaps an allergy to some cosmetics.
Her figure was attractive, though it lacked curves in some expected places, yet the purity mixed with a hint of sensuality was undiminished.
She walked briskly towards the north gate. The security guard, seeing such a beautiful girl, couldn’t help but take a second look but let her pass without hesitation.
As she exited the north gate, she waved her hand, and a Chery taxi pulled up. She got into the taxi and said, “Armed Police Hospital! Please, hurry!”
The driver turned around quickly upon hearing her voice, then murmured, “Oh… oh.” He turned back, started the car, and occasionally glanced at the pure-looking girl in the rearview mirror during the drive, seemingly forgetting that he should be watching the road.
Thousands of police officers escorted hundreds of students towards the meeting room, as if they were escorting prisoners. The police were surrounded by circles of students. At this point, the Shengze building was already empty, as everyone had come down to see what this “holy war” was all about.
“Ouch! Ah…”
“What’s wrong?”
“I… my stomach hurts… I need to go to the restroom.”
“What happened?”
“Captain, he says he needs to go to the restroom.”
The fat policeman looked at the small boy squatting on the ground and groaning, and said, “Let him go.”
Watching the boy walk away, the fat policeman sighed and said, “Sigh… such a small guy going out there is just a target…” He shook his head and continued towards the meeting room.
The small boy ran to Room 1205 in the Zone N dormitory building. After a while, a neatly dressed girl walked out of Room 1205.
The girl was wearing yellow high-heeled sandals, appearing to be over 1.6 meters tall, brown shorts with black stockings over her thin legs, which evoked a loving impulse; a red short-sleeved top that made her look vibrant; a thin gold chain around her neck and a bracelet made of shells on her wrist, clear symbols of purity; her hair was a bit short for a female, styled in a modern way that matched her small face; her nose was small and sharp, eyes small yet spirited, lips thick and sensual, giving a very fresh feeling. However, there seemed to be a few red marks on her face, possibly due to an allergic reaction to makeup products.
Her figure was good, though certain areas were a bit flat. However, her purity intertwined with subtle sensuality was undiminished.
She walked quickly towards the north gate. The security guard saw she was a girl, and so pretty, he gave her a quick look and let her pass.
Outside the gate, she waved her hand, and a Chery taxi pulled over. She got in and said, “Armed Police Hospital! Please drive a bit faster!”
The driver, hearing her voice, turned to look at her and mumbled, “Oh… okay.” He turned back and started the car. Along the way, the driver occasionally glanced at the fresh-looking girl in the rearview mirror. Didn’t the driver know he should be watching the road ahead?
“Who did you fight with?” a rough voice echoed in the meeting room of Shengze College. After a while, still, no one answered his question.
“Have you all grown wings and gotten bold? Sit down! I don’t believe it… who is the leader among you?” The fat policeman continued to ask, but still, no one was able to answer him. Becoming impatient, the fat policeman slammed the table and yelled, “Where is Ye Chen?”
“Our boss was shot three times and was taken to the hospital,” after a long time, a voice emerged from the crowd, not loud, but even those not keen of hearing could hear it.
“Three… three shots…” the fat policeman quivered as he sat down.
“It seems like another gang case…” the fat policeman mused, leaning back in his chair. He stared at the ceiling, not moving. Suddenly, he shouted to the person next to him, “Xiao Li! Quick, go to the Department of Transportation, get all the recordings from the electronic eye at the Shengze gate for today! I don’t believe we can’t find out who he is! In broad daylight, to pull out a gun, I must see who this person is!” The fat policeman was talking to himself by the end. Xiao Li went to the Department of Transportation, and the meeting room fell silent, seemingly the fighting comrades were starving.
With the electronic eye’s surveillance video, will the “Huaying Gang” become another “Black Spirit Gang”? Behind the “Huaying Gang” is the Fu Family! While the “Black Spirit Gang” is just a simple gang.
“Brother!”
“Zina? Why are you here?”
“Where is Ye Chen?” Zina looked behind Mingzi and saw Cai Erman, but no Ye Chen, she asked eagerly.
“He…”
“What happened to him? What happened, tell me…” due to her extreme emotion, Zina fainted. Yixuan supported her to a bench against the wall. Mingzi pressed Zina’s philtrum, and Zina frowned slightly but did not wake up.
“Is she okay?” Yixuan asked Mingzi, holding Zina.
“She’s fine, better if she doesn’t wake up, let her rest more…”
“Where is Ye Chen? What happened to Ye Chen? How is he…”
“Wait…” Mingzi didn’t let Yixuan finish before he lowered his head, gloomily answering.
“Doctor, how is he?”
“Please step aside, I need to get some medical supplies, please.” Cai Erman saw a doctor coming out of the emergency room, hurriedly approached and asked. The doctor replied without even glancing at him, briskly walking by.
Ten minutes passed, twenty minutes passed, half an hour went by.
Unknowingly, it was already 8:30 in the evening. Ye Chen was still in emergency treatment, Zina was still unconscious. Mingzi, Cai Erman, and Yixuan sat quietly, but internally they were frantic with worry.
“Doctor, excuse me, where is the Shengze College student being treated?”
“Treated?”
“The one who was shot!”
“Oh, he’s in the emergency room, take a left up ahead,” the doctor replied to the innocent-looking girl in front of him. As she walked away, the doctor couldn’t help but turn back and stare at her, his eyes wide open, transfixed as if under a spell.
“Where? Where is it…” the girl, dressed in a red short-sleeved shirt, appeared frantic and anxious, her high heels clicking loudly on the ground.
“Mingzi? Where is our boss? Where’s our boss?”
“Xiang Tengfei? He’s still in the emergency room.”
“Emergency treatment? There’s still no result yet?”
“…No.”
Yixuan observed the delicate-looking girl in front of her, surprised by the incongruously masculine way she spoke, unable to take her eyes off of her.
Xiang Tengfei, a little guy, if there were a competition in Xiahua Country for the most striking “crossdresser,” he’d probably take the title. When he keeps his mouth shut, no one can tell he’s a boy!
“Sit down, we can only wait for now,” Mingzi said to Xiang Tengfei.
Feeling resigned, Xiang Tengfei sat down. Yixuan continued to stare at him, astonished, unable to close her gaping mouth. Mingzi noticed Yixuan’s reaction and tapped her on the shoulder, saying, “He’s disguised as a girl.”
Hearing Mingzi’s words, Yixuan continued to glance at Xiang Tengfei for a moment before thinking of Ye Chen. She lowered her head, gently resting her chin on Zina’s head, who was nestled in her arms.
The corridor was initially quiet until the sound of footsteps suddenly echoed through it. The footsteps were steady, unhurried, and carried an inexplicable chill. Yixuan, Mingzi, Cai Erman, and Xiang Tengfei all turned their attention to the transverse corridor intersecting with the emergency room.
The soft melody of a song began to play, “Promised to accompany you until old age, but the heels unwittingly learned to fall. When will the night breaking through the window, with one or two gleams, accompany me in dreams to seek the vows I once made to you…” The footsteps paused for a moment and then resumed, gradually fading away from Cai Erman and the others.
“Hello?”
“Master Jin, I’ve completed the task you assigned me. What about what you promised me?”
“I’m starting to doubt your capabilities. You took down only one out of three… Fine, I’ll let Fu take over Plot No. 3.”
With that, the blond man closed his phone, exited the hospital, got into a Mercedes sports car, turned the car around, and disappeared into the night.
With a creak, a female doctor emerged through the emergency room door.
“Doctor, how is he?” As soon as they heard the emergency room door open, Mingzi, Cai Erman, and Xiang Tengfei immediately stood up and gathered around, while Yixuan’s eyes and ears were fixed intently on the emergency room entrance.
“The surgery was successful…”
“Phew…” At the doctor’s words, everyone let out a sigh of relief.
“This time, the gunshot hit the spleen, and coincidentally, it’s where the previous knife wound was. He’ll need to rest for several months before he can get out of bed and walk. Also, due to excessive blood loss, he probably won’t regain consciousness until tomorrow morning. During this time, no visitors are allowed. I suggest you all go home, get some rest, and come back tomorrow,” the doctor advised calmly, beads of sweat gathering on her forehead.
“Thank you, doctor!”
“Uh… If it’s possible in the future, you should take him abroad to repair the necrotic part of the spleen and the ligated blood vessels near it. This would be beneficial for him,” the female doctor added, turning back to the three of them before walking away. The three of them listened without responding.
“Thankfully, it was a shotgun…”
“Why are you dressed like this?” Cai Erman asked, turning to look at Xiang Tengfei as he spoke.
“Oh, I forgot to tell you. Shengze College is now under police control, and they’ve issued an order forbidding male students from leaving the campus,” Xiang Tengfei replied.
“Aren’t the police going after that gang?” Cai Erman continued asking.
“Not yet, and as for now, I’m not sure,” Xiang Tengfei said, raising his slender hand with a shell bracelet to touch his head.
“As long as Ye Chen is alright, those bastards will get what’s coming to them sooner or later…”
“Quiet!” At that moment, several doctors emerged from the emergency room. The leading doctor snapped at Mingzi, clearly dissatisfied as she shot him a sidelong glance while walking past. Mingzi didn’t bother to respond, keeping his head down in silence.
“Does Ye Chen have other injuries?” Yixuan asked.
“Well…” Cai Erman glanced at Zina in Yixuan’s arms, on the verge of speaking but then stopping himself. Mingzi turned his head but remained silent, his gaze also fixed on Zina.
“Our boss used to be really strong! If it weren’t for what happened a year ago…”
“Cough! Cough! Cough!”
“Zina, you’re awake?”
“Sister… How is Ye Chen?” Zina suddenly sat up and asked.
“The doctors said he’s okay,” Cai Erman replied.
“Zina, you and Yixuan should head back. We’ll stay here,” Mingzi suggested gently as he stood up, moving in front of Zina. At that moment, he appeared more like a protective older brother.
“I’m not leaving. I want to see Ye Chen,” Zina said, clinging to Mingzi’s left wrist. Her eyes were full of anticipation, anxiety, and affection. Sitting beside Zina, Yixuan looked on, perplexed by the scene.
“The doctor said he won’t wake up until tomorrow morning, and no one is allowed in the ward until then,” Mingzi softly reassured Zina as he placed his right hand over hers.
“Brother…” Zina looked helplessly at Mingzi and reluctantly released her grip.
“Zina, please listen and get some rest, okay?”
“Let me stay here, brother?” Zina pleaded, her eyes shimmering with tears. Seeing her distress, Mingzi felt a pang in his heart.
“Mingzi, if Zina wants to stay, let her stay,” Yixuan suggested, unable to remain silent. Of course, Yixuan didn’t want to leave either; the person in the emergency room held a charm that made five people willingly wait outside.
The Armed Police Hospital is located in the Ping River District of Hailing City’s western suburbs. To the east of the hospital runs a river named the Ping River, which, though no longer navigable, has in recent years become one of Hailing City’s notable tourist attractions. The tranquility, freshness, and purity of the Ping River have made it a cherished refuge. In such a complicated and trivial world, taking a moment to pause in a place like this and appreciating the scenery might allow one’s soul to reconnect with an original sense of kindness.
