Chapter 19
His voice was soft, like feathers scattering in the sea breeze, but it struck me like a clap of thunder.
I whipped my head around and saw Fu Liuchuan standing by the railing.
He was silent, gazing out at the dark sea as if looking at a lover.
My brother had a face so beautiful it was almost androgynous, but his features usually held a sharp, cutting edge.
Now, all of that was gone.
His expression was a mixture of madness and fragility. A wave of regret washed over him, so powerful it threatened to drown him.
I floated in front of my brother, face to face with him.
Then I slowly moved forward, tears streaming down my face as I pressed my lips to his.
I whispered, “Brother, I love you.”
He couldn’t see me.
He couldn’t hear me.
He couldn’t feel me.
“I should have told her sooner, shouldn’t I?” Fu Liuchuan murmured to himself. “Maybe if I had been more selfish, more despicable, if I had just locked her by my side the moment I realized my feelings, just like in my dreams, and never let her go anywhere.”
“Maybe she would have hated me even more, but at least she would still be alive.”
“You must have hated me so much before you died, Liuliu?”
How could I ever hate you, brother?
I was a coward. I only hated myself for not being brave enough.
