Chapter 15
The sea swallowed the night, and the moonlight fell like a soft mist.
By an empty railing, Fu Liuchuan took a deep breath. “Speak.”
“I had someone look into it. After the graduation ceremony, Jiang Yao left the school first, and Fu Liuliu left the next day.”
“According to their travel records, they didn’t cross paths. But there’s something strange.”
“For three days in early July, both Fu Liuliu and Jiang Yao’s whereabouts disappeared. There are no records of them anywhere.”
“…Early July.” Fu Liuchuan paused, a memory suddenly surfacing. “We had another fight that day.”
“I wasn’t a good brother. I always made her unhappy.”
He closed his eyes. “Go on.”
Zhao Yan’s face showed a hint of pity. “I have some friends abroad. I sent them photos to investigate. An airport staff member said they saw Fu Liuliu and Jiang Yao together at the airport.”
“I followed that lead and found out they went to a deserted beach that day… Anyway, Chuan, look at this.”
He paused, hesitated for a moment, and handed over a creased photograph.
Fu Liuchuan’s gaze fell on it.
He froze, as if plunged into the Arctic.
The photo showed an endless sea, with a battered fishing boat on the surface.
In the boat’s net was a bloated corpse, horribly disfigured by the seawater.
The face was unrecognizable.
But faintly visible, behind the ear, was a patch of skin with a bright red birthmark.
That was…
My body.
