After I Was Gone, Mr. Song Said He Loved Me - Chapter 100 - Song Yu is Dying (Part 2)
Luo Yewen wiped his face, steadied his emotions, and said, “Bai Yu, is this what you wanted?”
Luo Yewen wiped his face, steadied his emotions, and said, “Bai Yu, is this what you wanted?”
I looked up at him, not knowing how to answer.
“The boss is lying on the operating table, his fate unknown. Are you satisfied now? You’ve pushed all the tragedy you created onto the boss, then stood on the moral high ground, posing as a righteous judge, sentencing the boss to guilt, all to cover your own filthy desires!”
“Bai Yu, you don’t deserve the boss’s affection!”
“You’re wrong, I didn’t!” I admitted that Song Yu getting shot this time was because of me, but those other things before were never my false accusations.
Luo Yewen let out a cold laugh, his voice full of anger: “You’re selfish, greedy, and unwilling to give–who ever said you were the one who lost out?”
“You say the boss used you–ha, what right do you have to say that? Not just you, even the whole of Huanya has been used by the boss.”
“Because we took the boss’s money, it’s only right that we create value for the boss. But you? After taking the money, you turn around and complain about being used? Bai Yu, who do you think you are? Do you expect to have all the good things in the world to yourself?”
“Outsiders call the boss a profit-driven merchant, but no one knows how much hardship he’s endured. He grew up an orphan, built hundreds of orphanages across the country, invested billions without expecting returns, and kept it going for nearly a decade–just so those sick and unwanted children could have a home.”
“Because Chairman Chi once recognized the boss’s talents, even though he wants the boss dead, the boss has never thought of dealing with him. He still left him a shred of dignity. But they still wanted to destroy the boss completely, and in the end, lost everything themselves. Who else is there to blame?”
“Bai Yu, you only judge people by what you see, never trying to understand them with your heart. The boss was clever his whole life, but in the end, he actually fell for an idiot like you.” Luo Yewen shook his head with a bitter smile, looking like he hated iron for not becoming steel.
I was left speechless by Luo Yewen’s words, unable to refute even a single punctuation mark.
Although Luo Yewen had defended Song Yu from beginning to end, this time, he was right. I had never placed myself in the right position from the very start, always dragging my personal emotions into work. I didn’t realize that Song Yu was warning me with those extra five hundred thousand after each incident–not to get emotionally involved.
It was me who kept indulging in my own feelings, and when I didn’t get the response I wanted, I reacted rebelliously to everything Song Yu did or said, which led to the series of tragedies that followed.
At this moment, I felt like a soulless puppet, staring blankly into space, too ashamed even to cry.
Song Yu’s surgery started a little after two in the afternoon and lasted until ten at night–almost eight hours. During that time, only a few female nurses came out to get medicine and blood, hurrying in and out without answering any of our questions.
Finally, after a long wait, the words “In Surgery” disappeared.
The double white doors swung open. Song Yu was pushed out. His face was as pale as the bedsheet, his eyes closed, completely drained, an oxygen mask over his mouth and nose, a faint mist escaping with every weak breath. The heart monitor beside him beeped steadily, proof that Song Yu was still alive.
“Doctor, how is Song Yu?” I rushed up and grabbed the doctor’s hand, my voice urgent.
The male surgeon in charge of Song Yu’s operation looked grave. He spoke quickly and anxiously, and I couldn’t catch it all, but the gist was that Song Yu’s condition was very serious. Although the bullet hadn’t struck his heart directly, shrapnel from the explosion had damaged his cardiac artery, causing massive bleeding.
He was now in a deep coma, his life in constant danger. He needed to be transferred to the VICU for continuous monitoring, and we should prepare ourselves.
The doctor finished his brief explanation and hurriedly pushed Song Yu’s bed toward the VICU with the nurses. I followed behind like a walking corpse, just wanting to be a little closer to Song Yu.
As Song Yu was about to be wheeled into the VICU, I suddenly ran forward to block the doctor, stammering in broken English, “Doctor, I want to go in with him, please?”
The doctor refused without even thinking.
I begged desperately, explaining that I was Song Yu’s same-sex lover, just wanting to stay by his side, hoping the doctor could make an exception.
I was afraid I would never see Song Yu again, afraid that regret and remorse would be all I had left in my life.
But the doctor still wouldn’t relent, accusing me of making a scene and telling me to leave.
At that moment, Aida walked over. The doctor’s demeanor immediately became respectful. She said to him, “Let Mr. Bai in. I’ll take responsibility for anything that happens.”
She sounded as if the hospital belonged to her family.
The doctor looked troubled: “But… this… this isn’t according to the rules.”
“I said, I’ll take responsibility if anything happens. Do you want me to call my father right now?” Aida’s tone grew sharper.
Left with no choice, the doctor let me change into sterile clothing and enter the VICU.
Only later did I learn that Aida’s father was a major shareholder of Morrison Hospital. She only became my caregiver out of curiosity, wanting to see what kind of person Song Yu liked.
No surprise, this was probably another one of Song Yu’s past romantic debts, just like that Aira.
I thanked Aida sincerely before entering the VICU.
Song Yu lay quietly on the bed, electrodes pasted to his chest, the ventilator huffing and puffing, surrounded by machines I didn’t recognize, all working busily, as if trying their utmost to save his life.
I sat by the bed, and my eyes instantly welled up with tears.
In my heart, Song Yu was such a powerful presence, as if there was nothing in this world he couldn’t accomplish. Yet now, he lay so weakly with his eyes closed, hovering on the brink of life and death.
All of this was because of me.
Song Yu, why are you so foolish? I’ve already rejected you, so why do you still stay by my side, risking your life for me time and again?
Is it worth it?
Song Yu had been in a coma for seven days and nights. These seven days were the most dangerous period, and each day felt like a year to me, filled with anxiety. Finally, the eighth day arrived, but Song Yu still hadn’t woken up.
I couldn’t sit still any longer. When the doctor came to check on him, I stopped him and asked, “Doctor, it’s already the eighth day. Why hasn’t Song Yu woken up yet? Didn’t you say he had passed the critical period?”
The doctor sighed helplessly, “I can’t give you an exact time. Although Mr. Song has passed the critical period, it doesn’t mean he will wake up immediately. In fact, it’s a miracle that Mr. Song made it through the first seven days. As for what happens next, only time will tell.”
The doctor instructed the nurse to remove the breathing apparatus from Song Yu’s face. I asked what this was for, and the doctor explained that Song Yu could now breathe on his own, and his bodily functions had returned to normal. They needed to gradually bring his organs back to working order to increase the chances of him waking up.
After hearing the doctor’s words, I clutched my chest and slowly walked back to Song Yu’s bedside. He still lay there quietly with his eyes closed, showing no signs of pain, as if he were merely asleep. The only connection between us was the heart monitor beside him, its beeping constantly reminding me that Song Yu was still alive.
I sat by his bed, holding his hand and silently weeping. “Song Yu, the doctor said you’ve passed the critical period, so why aren’t you waking up? You can’t sleep so much. You have such a big company to run, so many people waiting for you to have a meal with them. You can’t be lazy.”
“Song Yu, you’re really bad, so bad. You make me fall for you again and again, and then you leave me with nowhere to vent my anger. How can you be so bad?”
“Song Yu, please wake up, won’t you? Don’t sleep anymore. Didn’t you say you liked me? If you like me, how can you bear to make me sad?”
“Song Yu, you know, when I found out the truth, I already forgave you. I ignored you because I was upset. Who told you to be so bad before?”
“Song Yu, you…” I finally broke down and cried out loud, “Song Yu, please wake up, won’t you? Don’t sleep anymore. Talk to me, please.”
“Didn’t you want me to be yours? I promise you, as long as you wake up, I’ll do whatever you say, okay?”
“Song Yu, don’t sleep…”
I lay on Song Yu’s chest, sobbing uncontrollably, my heart aching.
There was no dramatic scene like in novels or TV dramas; Song Yu did not wake up at the call of his lover. The heart monitor continued its steady beeping, everything as usual.
After crying enough, I wiped away my tears, jokingly scolded Song Yu as ‘heartless,’ and prepared to get up to fetch a basin of warm water to wipe his body. Although he couldn’t move, I knew Song Yu loved cleanliness and couldn’t stand sticky sweat, so wiping his body had become one of my daily tasks.
Just as I stood up, the hand holding Song Yu’s seemed to be tugged by something.
I froze instantly, not daring to look down, until my fingers were gently tugged again. My heart pounded like a drum, and my throat felt parched. I took a deep breath, gathered my courage, and looked down. Song Yu’s hand was gently rubbing my fingers, and then a faint voice drifted into my ears.
“…I’ve given all my heart to you, you little heartless one.”
I turned to look, and Song Yu was smiling weakly at me, warm and beautiful, as if everything else in the world had faded into insignificance, leaving only Song Yu shining brightly.
I smiled too, and as I smiled, I began to cry again.
I knew that the two parallel lines between him and me had finally reached an intersection.
“…Why are you crying again?”
“I’m not crying,” I said, pretending to be strong as I wiped away my tears.
“You’ve… lost weight,” Song Yu said to me.
These seven days, I had hardly slept. I already had stomach issues, and with the added stress, I couldn’t eat anything. It was no surprise that Song Yu noticed I had lost weight.
“Have you… not been eating well again?” Perhaps because he had just woken up, Song Yu was already out of breath after saying a few words.
Only then did I react, quickly wanting to call the doctor.
But Song Yu held onto my hand, not letting go. “Don’t… don’t go, I haven’t… I haven’t seen enough of you yet.”
I got anxious and scolded, “Stop fooling around, there’s plenty of time to look later.”
“Wait… Bai, what you said just now… does it still count?”
“What words?” As soon as I asked, I realized, “Song Yu, did you wake up a long time ago and deliberately not open your eyes to listen to me cry, didn’t you?”
I was a bit angry. I was so worried about him, afraid he would never wake up, and it turned out this guy was deliberately scaring me, watching me cry like a fool, talking to myself.
“No, I… cough, cough…” Song Yu started coughing before he could finish his sentence.
I have to admit, the coughing was more effective than any explanation. I immediately stopped being angry.
“Don’t talk anymore, I’ll go call the doctor right away.”
“Bai, you… answer me, did you just say… say that as long as I wake up, you’ll… you’ll forgive me and be mine… does that still count?” Song Yu held onto my hand tightly, his gaze fervent as he looked at me. He wasn’t using much force; I could easily pull my hand away with a gentle flick.
But this time, I didn’t want to let go. In that moment when Song Yu risked his life to save me, I decided I wouldn’t let go of his hand again.
“Let’s see how you behave!” I blushed, threw out the words, and ran out.
The doctor performed a series of examinations on Song Yu, and his post-surgery recovery was excellent. It seemed Song Yu was lucky; the bullet didn’t directly hit his heart, only a fragment grazed his artery. Fortunately, he was in the hospital, and the timely rescue saved him from an irreversible fate.
After Song Yu woke up, he was observed in the VICU for two days before being transferred to a regular ward. Yet, he refused to stay alone, insisting on sharing a room with me. Unable to argue with him, I had to give in.
Although Song Yu’s health was improving, he still couldn’t have intense emotional fluctuations, so I always yielded to him, listening to whatever he said.
However, the more I listened to him, the more he took advantage. Initially, he pretended to sleep separately, but later he would hop onto my bed with one leg in the middle of the night, and every time I woke up, I found myself in his arms.
Eventually, he brazenly had his bed removed, squeezing in with me on a single hospital bed.
“Song Yu, you’re being excessive! How can two grown men sleep on a single bed?” I finally couldn’t hold back and exploded.
Song Yu leaned against the headboard, chuckling deeply, “We’ve been sleeping like this for days.”
“You!” I was so angry my face contorted, muttering furiously, “You don’t resemble a president at all, more like a rogue.”
As soon as the words fell, Song Yu suddenly clutched his chest with a hiss, his expression extremely pained.
I was startled, rushing forward to check on Song Yu’s condition, only to be pulled into his embrace. Just as I was about to struggle, Song Yu subdued me.
“Move again, and it’ll really hurt.”
This cunning old fox had me completely under his control, leaving me unable to resist him.
“Liar, scoundrel!” I cursed him angrily.
“No respect for the elderly, I’m over ten years older than you, almost like your uncle.”
“You know that, yet you bully a child like this?” I glared at him in annoyance.
Song Yu laughed heartily, holding me tighter, “Bai, I’m so happy you can accept me. Those two bullets were worth it.”
“Don’t say that, you almost lost your life. I thought you’d die before me.”
As soon as the words left my mouth, Song Yu’s hand around my waist paused noticeably.
I knew this was Song Yu’s sore spot, the thing he feared most and least wanted to face, yet it was happening constantly.
“Bai, you won’t die, and neither will I. We’ll live happily. Dr. David said your condition now is three parts treatment, seven parts care. As long as we take good care, there are endless possibilities.”
“You will get better, everything will get better.”
Song Yu buried his face in my neck, repeating “everything will get better” like a hypnotic spell, numbing my thoughts.
But no matter how muddled the mind, the physical pain was real and tangible.
I knew I wouldn’t get better, and Song Yu knew it too.
“I know, we’ll be fine.” I didn’t shatter our dream but gently covered Song Yu’s hand and whispered, “Song Yu, when you’re better, let’s go back home.”
Song Yu agreed without hesitation, “Alright, we’ll do as you say.”
Under the night sky, stars twinkled, and cicadas chirped continuously.
I leaned against Song Yu’s chest, with him embracing me from behind. We were like an old couple, enjoying a moment of tranquility.
“Song Yu, everyone says you’re shrewd, calm, and composed. Even I used to think so. In fact, I’m just like them, not understanding you at all.”
“You’re a fool, and a reckless one at that. Luo Yewen was right; if you were a bit smarter, you wouldn’t like me.” I joked, though my heart was heavy.
I’ve always known the gap between Song Yu and me, like when I first went to Huanya Building, looking up at it, it was destined that we were worlds apart.
Song Yu turned me to face him, his deep eyes looking at me with determination and sincerity, “Bai Yu, when you first cried in the hospital saying you liked me, my heart began to melt, though I didn’t realize it or dared to admit it.”
“I was afraid of being influenced by you, so I tried to keep our distance. Yet, I still found myself unsettled by your matters.”
“I never understood why I was so deeply attracted to you, despite your conditions and abilities not being the best, or rather quite poor.”
“Until you confessed and asked me to fire you, I realized my feelings for you were not just professional but a personal possession.”
“This isn’t a momentary impulse, Bai. It’s the answer I found in my repeated loss of control and abnormal behavior. I like you, undoubtedly, so don’t think there’s anything imperfect about yourself. In fact, the world is like this, there’s no best, only the most suitable.”
“And for me, Song Yu, the most suitable person is you, Bai Yu!”
