A Tattoo That Can't Be Removed - Chapter 10
I never expected him to track me down here; I thought we’d part ways forever.
The old school’s railings bore the marks of time, and Wei Yan’s brow remained furrowed. I thought he wanted to smoke, but after rummaging in his pocket for a while, he didn’t light up.
“I miss you.”
He spoke, his voice thick and hoarse, startling me.
It was so direct, unlike him.
I didn’t look at him; just then, the sunset dipped below the horizon, and distant white birds lazily circled in the sky.
“After you left,” he suddenly said, “I missed you so much it drove me crazy.”
“I threw away everything related to you, but I still think of you, no matter what I do.”
When he looked at me, his light-colored eyes were as clear as ever.
I felt I had lost the ability to distinguish truth from lies with him, as the evening breeze lifted the strands of hair on his forehead.
“I’ve never admitted to regretting anything, except when it comes to you.”
“That day, I should have caught up with you. How could I let you get drenched in the rain?”
“But she suddenly collapsed, and I…”
“You couldn’t just stand by and do nothing, right? Wei Yan.”
I finished his sentence for him.
Suddenly, everything came to a halt. We both knew what the other was talking about. His eyes clearly reflected me, and in that instant, everything became clear.
“But what if what I want is for you to walk towards me without a care? Can you do that, Wei Yan? You can’t just ignore her life and death, can you?”
“But I can’t just watch her use this as a bargaining chip to get closer to you.”
I looked into his eyes and spoke each word deliberately.
His pupils flickered with a moment of confusion, and just then, the school bell rang. He suddenly grabbed my wrist.
“Let go…”
I didn’t want to get entangled with him anymore, but just then, someone came running towards me. It was one of Dad’s colleagues, and his panicked expression gave me a bad feeling.
“Old Lin’s in trouble!!”
