99% Match, But He Smells Like My Ex-Boss - Chapter 11
Chapter 11
The White Tower project moved forward quickly.
I returned to Qingyao.
But not as an employee.
I was the person in charge on the contractor’s side.
At the first requirements meeting, the looks the old Qingyao employees gave me were truly something.
Some were guilty.
Some were awkward.
And some were unconvinced.
I couldn’t be bothered with any of it.
During the meeting, I overturned two-thirds of the old proposal.
The product vice president frowned.
“Ms. Song, if we change it like this, the timeline will stretch out for a long time.”
I said, “If a protection system is only being built so it can launch on schedule, then it would be better not to build it at all.”
His expression turned ugly.
Lu Zhiheng sat at the head of the table and did not speak up for me.
Only after I finished explaining did he finally open his mouth.
“Follow Ms. Song’s plan.”
After the meeting, I cornered him in the pantry.
“Why didn’t you say that earlier?”
Lu Zhiheng was getting water.
“You don’t need me to use my position to pressure them for you.”
I froze for a moment.
He said, “You can convince them yourself.”
“I was only making the final confirmation on resources.”
That sounded very much like Lu Zhiheng.
And yet, it was not the Lu Zhiheng from before.
I took the cup of warm water he handed me.
“You’ve improved.”
He asked in a low voice, “Does that earn me points during the probation period?”
I almost choked.
“President Lu, how old are you?”
“Twenty-nine.”
“You still need points at twenty-nine?”
“I do.”
He said it very seriously.
I looked at him and suddenly found it funny.
A cough sounded from the pantry doorway.
Two employees were standing there, unsure whether to come in or back away.
I left with my water cup in hand.
Behind me, hushed gossip quickly rose.
“Was President Lu acting cute just now?”
“Do you have a death wish?”
“But Ms. Song smiled.”
My steps paused.
Lu Zhiheng followed behind me, the tips of his ears faintly red.
“They misunderstood.”
I asked, “Misunderstood what?”
He fell silent.
I said, “President Lu, explain.”
He said quietly, “They misunderstood that I’m pursuing you.”
“Is it a misunderstanding?”
He stopped.
I stopped too.
At the end of the corridor, sunlight fell across the glass.
The fir scent drifted out softly, then was quickly restrained again.
Lu Zhiheng looked at me.
“It’s not a misunderstanding.”
“But I was afraid you’d feel uncomfortable.”
It was as if something brushed lightly against my heart.
In the past, when he was afraid I would feel uncomfortable, he pushed me away.
Now he finally understood that even if he was afraid, he still had to say it out loud.
I reached out and lightly touched his cuff.
“I’m not uncomfortable now.”
His breathing faltered for an instant.
