Summary
My brother was seeing several men at once.
When they found out, they were furious—and started pursuing me instead.
Men who had once ignored me suddenly made me feel special.
My brother only smiled. “It’s fine. Maybe they’ve realized you’re better than I am.”
Then comments began floating across my vision.
[His little brother is so clueless. Look how flattered he is.]
[Painfully stupid. His brother has everyone eating out of his hand, but show this one the tiniest bit of affection and he’s eternally grateful.]
[The truth is, these men can’t bear to hurt the older brother directly…]
[Exactly! They’re going to toy with the little brother, then dump him to get back at the older one.]
I stood dazed in a corner and heard a man who had always greeted me with a smile say, in a voice utterly devoid of warmth:
“It’s his fault for being so cruel to me. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have to play with his little brother.”
“When his brother’s heart is broken, he’ll be hurting too. Then he’ll regret it.”
