Summary
After my homeland lost the war, a princess had to be chosen for a marriage alliance.
The priestess said I would do nicely.
That night, I killed her and hung her body from the high platform where she read her omens.
No one dared say a word. I was mad, after all.
When I was three, my wet nurse pinched me. I tore out all her hair and stuffed it into her mouth.
At four, a governess tried to teach me proper conduct. I scalded her face with boiling water.
At five, someone spoke ill of my mother behind her back. I had her thrown into a cage of wild beasts.
And so it went.
At seven, my elder brother scolded me for disrespecting my elders. I broke his leg.
But even I had a weakness.
My mother.
She bowed her slender, delicate neck and begged me to accept the marriage.
That neck was so fragile. The lightest squeeze might snap it.
I could not bear that.
So I went, and married the least favored fourth prince.
On our wedding night, he never came.
I pushed open a door and found his original wife.
Her neck looked just as delicate as my mother’s.
