Summary
On the eve of the wedding, Pei Su led his men to stop my legitimate elder sister, who was about to elope.
He pulled her into his arms and said he would never let her die a miserable death again.
That was when I knew he had been reborn too.
In my previous life, my elder sister fled the marriage, and I was drugged unconscious and stuffed into the bridal sedan in her place.
I harbored resentment, and he was unwilling to accept it.
We spent three years learning to get along, and at last we let go of our grudges and decided to live well together-only for news of my elder sister’s death to arrive.
By then, I already held control over the household.
Pei Su believed I had sent people to kill my elder sister.
He sat in silence all night, and from then on treated me coldly.
He took a courtyard full of concubines and had a host of children.
Yet he never again set foot in my room.
Later, he died young, and only before his death did he seem to forgive me.
“The debts and grievances of this life are settled. If there is a next life, we shall each return to our proper place and have nothing more to do with one another.”
Sure enough, we had both been reborn.
He wanted to fulfill his long-cherished wish.
As it happened, so did I.
