The Vanished Parents - Chapter 9 - Extra
“Dr. James, Emily has woken up.”
James took off his glasses and smiled.
“The fifth hypnosis session, she has successfully conquered herself. How is her emotional state now?”
“She’s been crying continuously; I think she might still be adjusting.”
“Let her calm down a bit. Let’s review Emily’s recovery process as a patient.”
Emily, female, twenty-six years old, sensitive and timid, with a typical people-pleasing personality.
Half a year ago, Emily went on a vacation with her parents to a villa in the countryside.
It was during that time that Emily encountered the nightmare of her life.
Richard Black and Lillian Gray.
This couple was notorious for their crimes and was wanted by the police.
While fleeing, they noticed the car parked at the villa entrance and decided to rob it.
Richard and Lillian broke into the villa.
It was late at night.
Emily and her parents were sound asleep.
Richard and Lillian initially intended to steal some money and leave, but unexpectedly, Emily’s mother came out to use the bathroom.
They ruthlessly killed Emily’s mother.
Emily’s father was awakened by the screams. He was clever and immediately realized something had happened to his wife.
Taking advantage of the criminals’ distraction, he ran to Emily’s room. He woke Emily and told her to hide under the bed.
Richard and Lillian soon discovered Emily’s father.
Emily hid under the bed, watching helplessly as her father’s throat was slit.
Before dying, Emily’s father mouthed the words to her.
Don’t be afraid.
After recounting Emily’s experience, James adjusted his glasses.
“After that, Emily developed survivor’s syndrome, carrying immense guilt and resentment for not coming out to help her father.”
“Due to her inherently timid and self-deprecating nature, Emily lived in constant pain, even experiencing delusions and hallucinations.”
“Emily imagined her parents were still alive, but according to her description, she saw the faces of Richard and Lillian.”
“To treat her condition, I performed hypnosis on her. Emily perceived me as her husband, constructing my identity in her mind. I became her anchor and subconscious instinct.”
“When witnessing her father’s murder, her instinct as a human was fear and terror, so James (representing instinct) would go to great lengths to prevent her from taking that brave step.”
“My role in her mind symbolized the obstruction from her timid instincts.”
“But she ultimately overcame this fear and received forgiveness from herself.”
A curious intern asked, “Dr. James, what about the identical villa the patient mentioned?”
“That villa is the real one where Emily experienced her parents’ murder, and she constructed another villa in her mind that trapped her.”
After finishing his explanation, James went into the room to visit Emily.
Emily was sobbing uncontrollably, but James knew she had emerged from her ordeal.
The greatest pain for a person might be the inability to forgive oneself.
