The Vanished Parents - Chapter 6
“Found you, Emily.”
I swallowed the scream that was threatening to burst from my throat.
“Mom, do you remember how we used to play hide and seek when I was little? I kind of miss those times, so I played a little game of hide and seek with you.” I smiled, fumbling as I crawled out.
The woman looked at me and suddenly sighed.
“You, child, I still remember that one time you hid in the barn, and when I found you, you were all dirty.”
Her words shocked me to my core.
That was indeed something I experienced as a child.
How did this woman know?
After my mother found me in the barn, I had a fever for a whole day and night, and it was my mother who carried me to the community clinic.
“After that, you got a fever. Our family wasn’t doing well back then, no car, and your father was on a business trip. I carried you to the community clinic, and you threw up all over my back.” The woman smiled, a nostalgic look in her eyes.
My fingernails dug tightly into my palms.
These very detailed things, she recounted them word for word.
Seeing my silence, the woman came over and patted my head.
“Emily, James really went too far this time. I only treated him nicely for your sake, but your dad and I both hope you divorce James.”
“Our Emily is such a good-natured person, how could she be with someone as bad as James?”
I looked at the woman in shock, “James, what happened with James?”
I saw the woman exchange a glance with the man.
The woman tentatively said, “Emily, did you forget what happened before the accident? You went to the airport to find James and saw him coming out with a flight attendant, all cuddled up. You ran off in anger and then had the accident.”
“After you woke up, you became very strange, as if you completely forgot about James. We were afraid of upsetting you, so we pretended not to know.”
I collapsed onto the bed.
So the reason for my accident was this?
No, I can’t believe what they’re saying.
They’re clearly the ones who killed my parents.
“You’re not my parents, I saw everything.” I said coldly.
I decided not to pretend anymore.
The woman’s face lit up with immense joy, and she rushed forward to cup my face, “You can see? That’s wonderful, daughter, I’m really happy.”
I pushed her away sharply, “Stop pretending to be my mother. My mother was killed by you, and her body was…”
The man stared at me blankly, “Emily, what are you talking about? Your mother is right here, what body? That’s terrifying.”
“You’re still pretending?” I dashed downstairs to the kitchen.
But the kitchen was spotless, with no traces of blood.
There was no sign of my mother’s head, just a large cow skull.
“This beef was just brought from the farm by someone your dad knows, to help you get better.” The man said, somewhat helplessly.
I frantically opened all the cabinets in the kitchen, but my mother’s head had simply vanished.
