The Unremarkable Little Taoist Master - Chapter 157 - The Burly Man
The old daoist priest let out a sigh of relief when he saw I was fine, turning to the old monk who had just chanted a Buddha’s name, “What wind blew you here, you old rascal? You came to stir things up too.”
The old monk retorted, unbothered, “Niu Bizi, you’re really heartless. I saved your disciple, didn’t you notice?”
The old daoist priest looked skyward and spat, “Bah! This brat isn’t my disciple. Besides, when did you, you old bald donkey, ever help? You’re clearly just here to cause trouble.”
The monk’s face turned green with anger as he rushed over and grabbed the old man’s collar. The old man didn’t back down either and seized the old monk’s collar, and right before everyone’s eyes, they began to tussle.
Watching the two old men, neither willing to back down, the onlookers felt helpless. Both men had special identities, and the ordinary exorcists dared not intervene; they could only watch the fight unfold.
Seeing the two getting red in the face, I hurried over to pull them apart. However, even after being separated, both still wore expressions of defiance, forcing me to focus on dissuading the old man.
Finally, he shifted his gaze from the old monk to the endless Blood Fiend Aura filling the sky. The master furrowed his brows and said, “I didn’t expect Bai Qi, the ghost king, to be resurrected after all. It looks like a fierce battle is imminent. Monk, you should go home; otherwise, if you die, I won’t be collecting your body.”
The old monk, fuming, shouted, “If you die, I can’t die! The old monk glared at the old daoist priest, who was also glaring back, both showing signs of wanting to go to war.”
Just then, a middle-aged man stepped forward, “Can you two stop fighting? After all these years, haven’t you had enough?” The old monk and the old man stared at the man before them, and without a word, both gave the burly man a smack to the head. The burly man grinned awkwardly, looking at the two older men with a bemused expression.
To my surprise, the two angry old men turned their ire towards the burly man. The old monk said, “Your master wouldn’t even dare to say that to us; who do you think you are, you little thing?”
The old man chimed in beside me, “You little rascal, I spotted your disrespect for your elders long ago. At the very least, we’re your uncle masters. How can you speak to us like this?”
The burly man looked at the two older men chastising him with an innocent expression, helplessly casting a pleading glance my way. I knew the old man had that stubborn streak, and if I didn’t intervene, I would be the one getting scolded. With a resigned expression, I returned the burly man’s gaze and then pretended as if it was nothing, quickly making my exit.
The burly man flashed an incredulous grin at my cold demeanor before addressing the two old men, “Uncle masters, right now the most urgent task is to deal with the ghost king. Once that’s taken care of, you can teach me a lesson.”
The two old men seemed to sense the gravity of the situation and adopted a serious demeanor as they gazed up at the Blood Fiend Aura in the sky.
To kill one is evil, to kill thousands is mighty. An unwilling roar echoed from the horizon, instilling a sense of fear in everyone. The scene felt tragically heroic, and as I watched the swirling dark energy approach, countless waves of yin energy surged from all directions, making my heart race with apprehension. The old daoist priest and the others quickly grabbed their ritual implements, their faces tight with tension as they observed the increasingly dense yin energy.
Time sped on, and the dark energy thickened; a looming figure started to emerge before us, stirring a sense of unease in my heart. I shook my head, trying to concentrate on observing this historical figure who had long been buried by time.
At last, Bai Qi appeared. Looking at his lewd expression, I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of malice towards history. They always say ancient people were tall, strong, and mighty, but the reality was that Bai Qi was barely around five foot three.
The image of a mighty figure didn’t match at all; instead, he looked like a penguin, round and stout, wearing a lascivious grin that bore an uncanny resemblance to the old daoist priest’s smile. Faced with Bai Qi’s shameless demeanor, I truly had no words left for critique.
The penguin-like Bai Qi coldly surveyed everyone in front of him, a glint of bloodlust flashing in his eyes. Silently, he drew his sword and glared at us with a chilling smile. He pointed the sword toward the sky, and countless ghost soldiers suddenly appeared behind him.
We felt a chill run down our spines as we looked at the overwhelming number of ghost soldiers. They seemed endless, filling the sky and ground, leaving us feeling utterly outmatched. Both the old monk and the old daoist priest furrowed their brows, sensing the danger and growing cautious.
The most reckless among us was undoubtedly the burly man. He shouted and charged forward, reminiscent of a big guy running while yelling, “For Demacia!”
To everyone’s surprise, the burly man didn’t embarrass himself. With a mighty roar, he seemed to obliterate countless ghost soldiers with just his voice. I was taken aback and felt a wave of sweat forming. How could he be so strong?
This defied logic! Were those ghost soldiers just there for show? How could half of them disappear with a single shout? It made no sense. But the next scene unfolded before my eyes, filling me with despair as a fresh wave of ghost soldiers quickly replaced the ones that had just vanished.
The burly man stared blankly at this bizarre scene in front of him, his mouth agape, nearly dropping his jaw to the ground. He let out a heavy sigh.
I quickly covered my ears as a loud roar erupted from him again. I could only look at the booming voice that was causing me a headache. What else could this big mouth do besides shouting?
Another strange occurrence happened: the ghost soldiers that had just disappeared were promptly replenished. Bai Qi’s eyes gleamed with endless mockery as the burly man flushed with embarrassment.
Suddenly, the burly man opened his mouth wide in shock. I would never forget that sight; his mouth seemed to stretch wider than his head. It looked as if he intended to inhale the countless ghost soldiers rushing toward him. I could hardly contain my disgust. Were those ghosts? You’re actually going to eat them? Don’t you think about getting a stomachache?
In my eyes, the burly man was turning into a monster. I decided I needed to keep my distance from him. If one day he suddenly opened his giant mouth, I wouldn’t be able to handle it. Watching the ghost soldiers disappear again, the burly man breathed a sigh of relief and grinned, realizing no more soldiers were appearing beside Bai Qi.
Bai Qi was smiling even more broadly, but as a wave of dark energy swept through the sky, the burly man quickly turned around, only to be infuriated by the sight: countless ghost soldiers were staring at him with expressions as if they had dementia.
