The Unremarkable Little Taoist Master - Chapter 146 - The Story of the Female Ghost
The female ghost pounced on the old Daoist priest like a madwoman. The old daoist priest swung his peach wood sword fiercely at her.
The female ghost showed no fear and charged straight at the old daoist priest’s attack.
“Bang.”
The female ghost let out a wretched scream, then became even more frenzied in her assault on the old daoist priest.
The old daoist priest turned around, chanting something under his breath. A hint of flush appeared on his face as he shouted loudly, “Break!”
Large beads of sweat instantly formed on the old man’s forehead.
Seeing the female ghost in such a frenzy, the old man seemed to swallow the words he had prepared. He felt that saying more would be useless.
The old man sensed that the aura emanating from the female ghost was nearing a breaking point. If he provoked her any further, he might really have to sacrifice himself to prove his path.
Looking at the somewhat deranged female ghost, the old man asked the question that had been troubling him, “Why do you insist on seeking revenge?”
The female ghost appeared to fall into a memory, and began to speak to herself. The old man and I listened intently as she recounted her story. Sometimes, ghosts are not as terrifying as we imagine; they may just be pitiful souls.
The female ghost let out a cold laugh and said, “Why do I want revenge? I want to kill all men. Men deserve to die.”
After saying this, she suddenly lunged at me, and I cursed inwardly.
What the hell, who did I provoke? I felt utterly helpless.
I hurriedly rolled to the side, barely dodging the female ghost’s attack. At that moment, the old man reacted, shouting loudly.
“Evil creature, do you dare to harm others?” The old man stepped forward and quickly began to chant a spell.
With a cold snort, he commanded, “Break!”
The female ghost was instantly knocked away by the old man’s force, emitting a series of roars.
The old man was clearly taken aback. After glancing at the female ghost, a smile appeared on his face.
He spoke to the female ghost, “Stop this at once; go and reincarnate. I will help you.”
After hearing the old man’s words, the female ghost replied, “No, I must seek revenge. He owes me, and it must be paid back.”
The old man glanced at the female ghost, seeming a bit unwilling, and impatiently said, “That’s a debt he owes you, not this kid. Why are you pressing him? When will this cycle of vengeance end?”
The female ghost suddenly began to laugh eerily, her face gradually taking on a menacing expression.
With a cold snort, she said, “Why must I seek vengeance? Isn’t it because of people like you?”
Hearing her words, the old man furrowed his brows tightly.
The female ghost seemed indifferent to the old man’s presence, slowly continuing, “It’s all you men; you all deserve to die.”
She continued, speaking to herself, “My poor child, I’m sorry, but don’t worry, Mama will take revenge for you.”
After saying this, she abruptly lifted her head and coldly directed her words at the old man, “Maybe you’re right, but no one can stop me. If I can’t kill him, I’ll take this kid’s life.”
The old man shook his head and told the female ghost, “You should kill me first. Although I have no grand ambitions, I know I can’t stand by as you kill someone in front of me. Even at the cost of my life, I will stop you-this is my mission.”
The female ghost looked momentarily stunned, and then a chilling Yin wind swept me away, making me crash to the ground. I spat out a mouthful of blood as the ghost’s claw gripped my neck, making me feel like I was suffocating.
The old man’s cold voice reached us, “If you kill him, you will surely die, because he is the heir of that person.”
Immediately, confusion filled my heart. I was curious about who that person the old man mentioned was.
I thought the female ghost would really kill me, so I shut my eyes, waiting for death to come. However, I didn’t meet my end. I opened my eyes to see the female ghost standing still, and I looked at her in bewilderment. Her voice slowly reached me: “You’re no pushover, old man.”
With that, the female ghost vanished with a bang, leaving me in confusion.
The old man’s voice came through at that moment, “You don’t need to be afraid anymore; she has already left.”
I was still caught up in the questions I had from what the old man said earlier, my mind full of doubts, but I held it back because this old man had already said everything he wanted to say.
The old man looked at me with a bitter smile, then began, “You kid, just pretend you didn’t hear what I said earlier. This female ghost is merely a small pawn; I was able to scare her off just now, but I can’t control what’s coming next.”
Upon hearing the old man’s words, I was filled with unease, even though I found it hard to believe.
With a somewhat cold expression, I asked the old man, “What do you mean? What’s really going on?”
The old man glanced at me and gestured for me to calm down. He pulled me down to sit and explained, “I know you’re very worried, but the situation is beyond my expectations. I might even lose my life here.”
After saying this, the old man sighed and said to me, “Kid, although this female ghost is just a small fry, I’m not capable of dealing with her. If I hadn’t scared her off earlier, we would probably be two corpses by now.”
I scoffed and asked, “So you’re saying we’re going to encounter even stronger foes next?”
Even now, my heart hadn’t settled. I had just realized how close I had been to death.
The old man shook his head and didn’t elaborate further. With a hint of helplessness, he said, “You must keep the amulet I gave you on you in the coming days. After I’m ready in a few days, I’ll come back to help you.”
With that, the old man quietly left, leaving me standing there in shock.
I hadn’t expected him to leave so casually.
I wanted to ask him something more, but the old man’s cold voice came back to me.
“Don’t just stand around in the next few days. When I call you, we’ll go out together to gather supplies.”
Hearing his words, I felt relieved. It turned out he wasn’t truly abandoning me.
After hearing the old man’s words, I let my mind rest, turned, and left.
As I walked away, I noticed the old man sighed slightly, then turned and left as well.
