The Unremarkable Little Taoist Master - Chapter 133 - Investigating the Case
I hurriedly pushed the man’s clothing aside and saw an eagle-shaped tattoo on his chest.
His insides had already been removed, leaving behind a gruesome wound.
I could no longer contain my fear; I rushed outside and started to vomit violently.
After quite a long while, I collapsed onto the ground, breathless and exhausted.
I sat there helplessly, gasping for air.
Ren Yue was standing nearby, watching me, and I managed a self-deprecating smile.
You really guessed it right; this man is indeed someone I just saw at the daoist temple.
After hearing my words, Ren Yue showed a confirming expression.
She nodded and said, “It seems that this daoist temple really has deep secrets.”
I had been here once before, but I had never sensed anything unusual until tonight’s events.
Now it was clear that this place was filled with the eerie and the dangerous.
As we were talking, suddenly the corpse of the Daoist priest that had been hanging from the ceiling let out a chilling laugh.
“Hehehe, you all must die, you must die.”
I was horrified to see that the Daoist priest’s body had vanished from where it had been hanging.
The corpse of the little Daoist priest in the bag also began to move. I was already frozen in shock by what I was witnessing.
My mind went blank, and then I saw the little Daoist priest’s corpse suddenly stand up.
It swayed unsteadily, as if it could fall at any moment.
Swaying, it made its way towards us, and a cruel smile suddenly appeared on its bloodied face.
Mumbling, it said to me, “It’s all your fault that I died. Give me back my life.”
After that, it let out an eerie cry and lunged at me, and before I even knew how to react,
Ren Yue grabbed my hand and started running wildly towards the exit.
I looked back at the little Daoist priest’s corpse, which stood frozen in place, repeatedly muttering, “You can’t escape. Everyone must die.”
Just as we reached the doorway, a figure suddenly appeared in front of us.
It was a burly police officer standing before me.
He looked at me coldly, furrowing his brow as he sternly said, “Stop! You both need to surrender immediately, and put your hands on your head.”
Feeling a bit anxious, I explained, “We just discovered the scene ourselves.”
“Shut up! Put your hands on your head and squat down.”
Reluctantly, I pulled Ren Yue down with me.
The police officer easily led us to the patrol car, and we were soon taken into the police station.
I thought the police wouldn’t believe our explanation, but surprisingly, they didn’t say much after hearing our story.
Before long, they let us go, and I followed Ren Yue out of the police station, still confused.
Since it was late, Ren Yue decided to stay at my place for the night.
After a quick wash-up, I fell into a deep sleep.
The next morning, the sound of a ringing phone jolted me out of my dreams.
I glanced at the unfamiliar number on the screen and, feeling puzzled, I answered.
On the other end, a deep and magnetic voice of a middle-aged man came through, “Hello, where are you?”
I forced a bitter smile and replied, “Officer, what’s going on this time?”
The voice on the other end responded urgently, “You need to come to the Municipal Third Hospital.” Then he hung up. I sighed, shaking my head in exasperation.
It seemed I wouldn’t be able to enjoy a quiet day after all. I grabbed my clothes and opened the door.
Slowly, I started my car and drove toward the Municipal Third Hospital.
As I drove, my thoughts wandered aimlessly. I tried to sort through everything in my mind.
First, there was the mysterious disappearance of the manager, then the corpse at the funeral home-each occurrence was shrouded in strangeness.
Had another supernatural case emerged that the police wanted me for? As my car approached the hospital entrance,
I could see that the entrance was surrounded by police tape.
Many officers stood at the hospital’s entrance, and the burly policeman who took my statement was standing there, smoking a cigarette.
With an expressionless face, he puffed on the cigarette, his furrowed brow showing the worry he felt inside.
I parked the car, and the burly police officer saw my arrival and broke into a relieved smile before striding over to me.
As I stepped out of the car and saw him approaching, I smiled and said, “Officer, you called for me?”
The burly police officer clapped his hand on my shoulder and replied, “Today we received a report of a death here.”
Hearing that someone had died instinctively made me want to back away from the situation.
The burly police officer shook his head and said, “You don’t need to be afraid; we just want you to assist us with the investigation.”
After our investigation, we found out that the deceased was also an employee at the funeral home, just like you.
My mind went blank upon hearing this. The manager was dead, the security guard was dead-who could it be this time?
In a daze, I followed the burly police officer toward the scene.
The closer we got, the stronger the smell of blood became, overwhelming my senses and making me furrow my brows tightly.
I felt as if there was some odd odor mingling with the scent of blood, but I couldn’t place where it was coming from.
We arrived at the door of a house, and I felt as if I was standing in a sea of blood; the bloody smell felt almost tangible.
Gingerly, I opened the door and saw a young man in formal attire lying on the hospital bed, his vacant eyes staring into nothingness.
The expression of fear on his face made it clear how terrified he must have been before he died.
What was even stranger was that the young man seemed to have no moisture left in his body, lying shriveled upon the bed, with no visible wounds.
The burly police officer said to me, “The autopsy results just came in; there’s no blood in the deceased’s body.”
I nodded and continued to observe the body, but after a while, I still couldn’t find any valuable clues, so I had to stop my examination.
The burly police officer looked at me with anticipation and asked anxiously, “Did you find any clues?”
I shook my head and replied, “I’ve definitely never seen this person before.”
Upon hearing my words, the burly police officer’s expression changed; he seemed to understand something about dealing with these supernatural events.
He shot me a cold glance and then sighed in resignation.
The burly police officer then yelled to the officers processing the scene, “Secure the area!”
