The Unremarkable Little Taoist Master - Chapter 130 - Trouble Arises
I was left standing there, dumbfounded. I couldn’t quite believe it as I turned to the old Yin-Yang master and asked, “Is it over just like that?”
The old Yin-Yang master gave me an exasperated look and glared at me fiercely.
“What else do you want? Do I have to die for it to be over?”
“No, no, that’s not what I meant. Why did the hairy Jiangshi suddenly leave?”
Ignoring me, the old Yin-Yang master just instructed the villagers to keep moving.
Soon, the funeral procession resumed, but I noticed that the villagers all had fearful expressions on their faces.
Before long, we arrived at the edge of a graveyard.
Though I knew this was the village’s graveyard, I was still startled by the sight before me.
The entire hillside was covered with dense mounds of earth, seemingly neglected for a long time, with paper money and weeds everywhere.
From time to time, strange noises echoed in my ears, which was terrifying.
I quickly looked at the old Yin-Yang master and, trembling a bit, said, “This place isn’t haunted, is it?”
The old Yin-Yang master shook his head helplessly and said, “Shut up and help us.”
The villagers placed the coffins neatly together and began digging.
In a short while, all ten coffins were lowered into the graves, and the old Yin-Yang master glanced at the sky.
Then he shouted, “Everyone must be quick. Alright, let’s get to work.”
The villagers began filling the graves with earth, and soon there were ten new mounds.
After everyone respectfully finished burning incense, the funeral was finally complete.
The old Yin-Yang master dismissed the crowd and then turned to look at me.
“You brat, don’t think about running away. Come with me to check Old Wealthy Man’s grave.”
“Can’t I just not go? I really don’t want to encounter any Jiangshi again.”
The old Yin-Yang master was infuriated by my words.
He picked up a stick from the ground, ready to hit me.
Helplessly, I eventually gave in and agreed to accompany him to inspect the situation.
We walked straight ahead, and the surroundings grew increasingly desolate.
In the distance, we saw a very barren mound.
Due to the passage of time, the grave had shown signs of collapsing, with weeds growing all over. The tombstone had become somewhat illegible from years of exposure to the elements, but I could still make out the name inscribed on it.
I turned to the old Yin-Yang master and asked, “Is this Old Wealthy Man’s grave?”
The old Yin-Yang master nodded and pulled out a compass from his robe, its needle spinning rapidly.
Watching the quickly spinning compass, the old Yin-Yang master smiled slightly and began to chant something under his breath. Suddenly, he shouted, “Heaven and earth have no limits, invoking the laws of all things, be still!”
Once he finished the incantation, the compass spun even faster. With his eyes tightly closed, he accelerated his chanting until, suddenly, the compass exploded with a loud bang, shattering into pieces.
The old Yin-Yang master’s expression grew increasingly serious as he spoke coldly, “There’s no mistake, it’s right here.”
Qingchen gave me an icy glance. “Are you ready?”
I nodded and, under his guidance, began to move. I started digging with skill and speed.
After a while, the corners of the coffin began to emerge, and I was drenched in sweat.
The old man glanced at me and then chuckled.
“Alright, take a break for now. We’ll continue afterward. Remember, we must finish before noon.”
After saying this, the old Yin-Yang master seemed to close his mouth with some apprehension.
Once he finished his instructions, he started chanting again. He took out a handful of spirit money and spread it around.
As he tossed the spirit money, he murmured, “The path of Yin Yang is open, spirits return to their places.”
After chanting for a while, he instructed me to continue.
Following his command, I resumed my work, digging with swift movements until the coffin was completely unearthed.
The old man’s gaze rested on the dark red coffin, and he let out a slow sigh, as if a heavy burden had been lifted from his heart.
As I was about to open the coffin, a sudden thunderous boom echoed from the sky. The once-clear sky became overcast and filled with dark clouds, accompanied by rumbling thunder.
The old Yin-Yang master glanced at the sky, his face turning ashen.
Suddenly, a heavy rain began to pour down, and a dull knocking sound emanated from the area where we had just unearthed the coffin.
Thud, thud-the sound was faint at first but gradually became louder.
The old Yin-Yang master’s face turned pale upon witnessing this strange occurrence.
He suddenly shouted at me, “Get out of the way!”
I felt myself being forcefully thrown backward.
A massive explosion erupted from Old Wealthy Man’s grave, and I saw the red coffin burst into pieces.
A ragged, rotund figure stood not far from me.
The old Yin-Yang master yelled, “Evil creature, how dare you emerge again?”
With that, he charged forward.
A purple figure appeared, casting a cruel smile at Qingchen.
Seeing this purple figure, I panicked-it was the hairy Jiangshi that had escaped earlier.
The hairy Jiangshi let out a bizarre shriek at the old Yin-Yang master and then said to us in an icy voice, “All must die, all must die.”
The old Yin-Yang master’s expression did not change as he charged forward with his peach wood sword.
The hairy Jiangshi stood still, wearing a mocking smile as the old Yin-Yang master approached.
Seeing the hairy Jiangshi’s demeanor, I felt a sinking feeling in my chest.
The hairy Jiangshi suddenly vanished from sight. Qingchen felt a chill behind him and tried to dodge, but he was a step too slow.
A tremendous force sent him flying backward, and he spat out a mouthful of blood.
Barely containing his rolling vital energy, he got back up and coldly glared at the hairy Jiangshi.
He silently cursed at how Old Wealthy Man’s power exceeded his expectations.
It seemed escape would be difficult today, the old Yin-Yang master thought grimly.
He sighed, shook his head, and seemed somewhat resigned to his fate.
The hairy Jiangshi glanced at the sighing old Yin-Yang master and then vanished from sight.
The old Yin-Yang master, gripping the peach wood sword, scanned the surroundings coldly.
Meanwhile, I held onto my last talisman, hoping it would give me some means of protection in the face of danger.
A piercing screech filled the air, and the old Yin-Yang master swiftly turned, thrusting his sword behind him like lightning.
The sword struck only air, causing him to frown slightly.
Suddenly, the old Yin-Yang master sensed something unusual behind him and quickly dodged out of the way.
