The Ultimate Horror Live Stream - Chapter 22 - I Want to Marry You
No one could have predicted the chaos at the wedding banquet. All eyes were fixed on Jiang Chen, some with sympathy, others with ridicule, but mostly with astonishment.
“What just happened?”
Jiang Chen, sprawled on the ground, struggled to stand but his legs failed him. He looked up at me, calmly lighting a cigarette, his eyes burning with anger. His mouth opened, but no words came out, and suddenly he spat out a mouthful of foul-smelling blood before collapsing unconscious.
“Should I call the police? This seems like extortion!” I nudged Jiang Chen, who lay motionless. “Forget it, you better call 110. Maybe they can save him.”
The venue descended into chaos. The Secretary from Jiangjin Group and the security guards rushed in, bringing in a private doctor to take Jiang Chen away.
“Can a wedding still be called a wedding without the groom? Boss Jiang, you didn’t pick a very auspicious day.” In the VIP area on the second floor, several people in light gray suits stood up. “Your family seems busy, so we won’t intrude further.”
These individuals left without a hint of respect for the Jiang Family.
“Who are they? Their arrogance rivals that of the hothead earlier.”
“Keep quiet, that’s Director Huang from Qian Ding Pharmaceutical, one of the city’s leading figures.”
“My son didn’t greet you properly, Director Huang, take care.” The voice came from the center of the second floor, but I couldn’t see anyone.
“Gao Jian, how did you do that?” Tie Ningxiang grabbed my arm, curious and surprised, her eyes as if seeing me for the first time.
“I didn’t do anything; he fell on his own.”
“Who would believe that? Are you going to tell me or not?”
“What? Are you going to abuse your power and interrogate me? I’m so scared.”
I couldn’t reveal the real reason to outsiders, so I changed the subject, glancing at Ye Bing once more. “Take care of yourself. Goodbye.”
I didn’t care about the outcome of this chaotic wedding. I was here simply to say farewell to the past.
With Ye Bing hesitating to speak and “old classmates” looking bewildered, I left the wedding venue with Tie Ningxiang.
…
Around two or three in the afternoon, I went to the City Police Department at Tie Ningxiang’s urging. Upon entering the Interrogation Room, I realized the situation was serious.
Four officers stood in the corners of the room, including Tie Ningxiang in her police uniform, all on high alert, guns at their waists.
“Quite the setup,” I remarked, noting that their target was merely a disheveled woman. She was handcuffed to the interrogation chair, her long hair draped behind her, face down on the table.
“You’re here.” Tie Ningxiang stopped me from approaching. “The suspect’s emotions are very unstable; don’t go near her yet.”
The woman handcuffed to the chair was Xiao Feng, whose figure I had become familiar with that night. “Why are her clothes so torn? You didn’t rough up an innocent woman, did you?”
“Rough up? This lady almost tore apart my interrogation room! Xiao Wang, come over and show him the wounds.” Tie Ningxiang called one of the police officers over.
“Look, this is where she bit me! She wouldn’t let go, and we had to use anesthesia to pry her mouth open, or else this whole chunk of flesh would have been torn off.”
The wound on Xiao Wang’s arm was shocking, with two rows of teeth marks sunk a centimeter deep into his flesh, and despite some basic treatment, it was still bleeding.
“This doesn’t make sense, Xiao Feng seemed perfectly sane.”
“How would I know she’d suddenly go berserk? You didn’t see her with a mouth full of blood, looking like a vengeful ghost crawling out of the underworld.”
“A vengeful ghost?” I mused, stroking my chin. Xiao Feng was a gentle, somewhat timid girl, and her sudden change in behavior might mean she was possessed by the vengeful ghost from Anxin Inn.
But the crux of the matter is that this isn’t Anxin Inn. The police station, akin to the ancient public court, is a place where grievances are addressed and justice is served, a place even spirits dare not disturb.
“Unless the vengeful ghost wasn’t confined to Anxin Inn but has been hiding within Xiao Feng all along.” It was merely a conjecture, as proving anything related to ghosts and spirits is notoriously difficult.
“You spent a night with her, you must have formed a deep bond. Once the anesthesia wears off, you’ll be the one to interrogate her,” Tie Ningxiang said, patting my shoulder with a look of confidence in me.
“Is that appropriate?” I glanced at Xiao Wang’s wound. “Investigating is your job as police; I’m just a…”
“What are you just? Junior, don’t let me down. Besides, she specifically asked to speak with you.”
Truth be told, I was curious about what Xiao Feng wanted to tell me. Although the live stream at Anxin Inn had ended, the questions it raised were far from resolved.
“Mmm…” After a while, Xiao Feng slowly came to, looking around in confusion. “Why are you all standing so far away? Why does my mouth feel wet?”
Her hands and feet were shackled, so she couldn’t wipe away the blood at the corners of her mouth.
“It’s up to you now,” Tie Ningxiang gave me an encouraging look before leaving the room with everyone else. “Don’t worry, we’ll be monitoring you for safety.”
“Bang!” The heavy door closed, leaving only Xiao Feng and me in the room.
Alone together, Xiao Feng suddenly lowered her head, avoiding my gaze. “Does the promise you made to me still hold?”
At this moment, Xiao Feng seemed shy and bashful, her voice sweet and endearing.
However, this was all predicated on ignoring the dried blood at the corner of her mouth.
“Stay calm, Gao Jian, this girl nearly took a chunk out of someone earlier!”
I took a deep breath, pulled out a tissue from my pocket, and crouched beside her. “Don’t move, let me clean you up.”
Perhaps seeing the blood on the tissue, Xiao Feng remained silent for a long time.
“Rinse your mouth.” I picked up a teacup from the table, not knowing whose it was, and helped her clean the blood away, then moved a chair next to her and sat down. “Tell me, what do you want to talk about?”
“When we were at Anxin Inn, you told me that if I needed anything, I could tell you, and you’d help me, right?”
“I did say that.” At the time, I was merely trying to probe Xiao Feng, not expecting her to take it seriously.
“Alright.” Xiao Feng’s eyes brightened, her expression more serious than ever. “I have just one request.”
“Go ahead, I’ll do my best to help you.”
“I want to marry you.”
The Interrogation Room fell silent, with only the ticking of the clock breaking the stillness.
Her eyes were piercing, as if they could see right through my flesh to my very soul.
Upon hearing her words, all my reasoning and speculation vanished; this was completely off the path I had been considering.
“You… marry me?” I fumbled for a cigarette, lighting it quietly. “This case doesn’t really involve you. Even if you were aware and chose not to report it, the punishment wouldn’t be severe. Given your circumstances, you could find someone much more suitable.”
According to the information provided by Tie Ningxiang, Xiao Feng was not an accomplice but rather a victim. She had no reason to sell her body just to end her confinement sooner.
“There is no one more suitable than you. Only by being with you can I survive.” Xiao Feng’s words sounded familiar. Upon reflection, I remembered the Paper Dolls interviewer had said something similar during the Underworld Showroom interview.
“Why?”
“Over the years, many people have stayed at Anxin Inn, but only you managed to clear my sister’s name and punish that family of demons. Only you succeeded!”
“It was just luck. Besides, that family is now detained, and Lu Xing, who fled, is being hunted. What are you afraid of? Live a normal life from now on; no one will bully you.”
“No, until seven people are killed, Lu Xing won’t be caught.” Xiao Feng shook her head desperately. “My sister was the first, and I am the last. The Twin-faced Buddha said seven people would die, and the first five have already come true!”
“Twin-faced Buddha?” I pulled out my phone, recalling a photo I had taken in the tunnel at Anxin Inn. It was a statue embedded in the wall, with two faces-one benevolent and one terrifying.
“He was the Feng Shui Master who came when Anxin Inn was first built. He wasn’t a monk or a Taoist, but claimed to be the Twin-faced Buddha.” Xiao Feng recalled painful memories. “I once overheard a conversation between him and Lu Xing, essentially about needing to kill seven people. My sister was the first, and I am the last.”
“If you knew, why didn’t you escape?”
“I tried to run away, but they always caught me and brought me back. And…” Xiao Feng gestured for me to lift her shirt at the back. On her smooth, fair skin were several tiny black dots.
“Every time they caught me, they would drive a needle into my flesh.”
