The Ultimate Horror Live Stream - Chapter 15 - Wedding Invitation
As soon as I left the police station, I headed straight to the bank. The items I redeemed with my live stream points were supposedly locked in my Personal Safe, according to the Underworld Showroom.
Though I had no idea what a Personal Safe was, I trusted the Underworld Showroom wouldn’t deceive me in this regard.
Covered in mud, with my pant leg torn, I looked like a refugee as I arrived at one of the largest banks in Jiang City.
“Sir, what service do you need?”
“I need to retrieve items from my Personal Safe. Card number 622843…”
“Personal Safe? I’m sorry, sir, we don’t offer that service here. Perhaps there’s been a mistake?” The front desk teller was polite enough, but the other people waiting in line weren’t as patient.
“Where did this bumpkin come from, talking about a Personal Safe? Does he think he owns the bank?”
“There’s a rural credit union next door. Did you come to the wrong place, buddy?”
“Hurry up, I’m in a rush.”
The crowd behind me was grumbling, but I was used to it. “Could you please check again? My card number is 622843…”
The front desk teller looked troubled, and the security guard started walking over. “How about this? I’ll ask the manager. If she doesn’t know, then I’m afraid there’s nothing I can do.”
This teller seemed to be a recent graduate, interning here. If it were someone else, they might have lost their patience by now.
“Hey, our time is precious.”
“Bumpkin, step aside.”
Soon, the teller hurried back, placing a ‘Service Paused’ sign at the window without saying a word.
“What does this mean? Neglecting duty? We’ll complain!”
“Exactly, where’s the lobby manager? I want to file a complaint!”
Within seconds, not just my window, but three consecutive counters behind me paused their services, with staff rushing to the back.
“What’s going on? A terror drill?”
I was puzzled too, when suddenly a sweet voice came from the VIP area: “Mr. Gao, this way, please!”
“VIP area? Business over a million? Him?” The crowd stared, trying to see through me with their eyes. They whispered among themselves, while the elegant lobby manager called out again: “Mr. Gao, please come to the VIP Area.”
With all the surprised looks around, I finally felt like I could hold my head high, “Oh, alright, but I’ve been standing for a while, I’m a bit thirsty.”
“My apologies, would you prefer Longjing1 or Pu’er2 tea?”
“Don’t bother, just get me a chilled Coke.”
Entering the VIP Area for the first time, I never imagined the bank would have such a luxurious reception room.
“Nice place, this sofa’s genuine leather, right?”
“Glad you like it.” The lobby manager stayed by my side, and after about ten minutes, the young teller returned with a tray: “Sir, here is the key to your safe.”
In the center of the tray was a pure black bank card, its material unknown, non-reflective, appearing very understated and discreet.
“Your safe is in the basement, would you like to open it now?”
“Of course.” Then, accompanied by four staff members, I went underground, swiped the card, entered the password, and retrieved the items wrapped in black cloth from the safe.
The whole process felt like a movie, and even as I walked out of the bank with the package, it still seemed like a dream.
“Amazing, this Underworld Showroom is truly amazing.” As I speculated about what kind of organization the Underworld Showroom was, I opened the package.
“Ding!” A golden object fell to the ground, attracting a crowd of onlookers.
“That color… that shape… that dazzling feeling…”
“Whoa, a gold bar!”
Picking up the gold bar, I didn’t dare look back and quickly jumped into a taxi: “Driver, step on it!”
Sitting in the passenger seat, I discreetly pocketed the gold bar and began flipping through the General Outline of Celestial Eye Practice.
“One point for a gold bar, this General Outline of Celestial Eye Practice cost me three points, it must be extraordinary.” My eyes gleamed, as if opening Pandora’s box, “Clairvoyance, my goodness, the thought is quite exciting.”
The book was thread-bound, appearing ancient, and as I opened the first page, several flamboyant characters caught my eye: “Every drop reveals the truth clearly, with the Five Eyes and Six Supernormal Powers discerning between Buddha and demon, Seeing and hearing can reach thousands of miles, making the universe seem like a small boat.”
“Great writing, profound, the essence of humanity, brilliant!”
I was so thrilled I almost stood up to applaud, but when I turned to the second page: “Blank?”
The second page was completely blank, not a single word.
“Could be a printing error, to err is human, understandable.”
A sense of foreboding crept in as I continued flipping: “Blank, blank, all blank!”
I slammed my fist on the seat, ignoring the bewildered driver, frantically flipping through, only to find the entire book was blank except for the first page.
“Buddy, buying a pirated book isn’t worth getting upset over, is it?”
“Pirated book?” Three gold bars worth about seventy thousand yuan, does your pirated book sell for that price?
I forced myself to resist the urge to tear it apart, rewrapping it carefully: “I wonder if the Underworld Showroom allows returns…”
Exhausted from a sleepless night, I finally made it back to my little shop after all the twists and turns: “Now I can finally get some rest.”
Getting off the taxi, I realized I was too naive.
In front of the modest storefront of Peak of Happiness, three people were waiting for me, either standing, sitting, or squatting.
“What’s this? Laying in wait? Is this a case of misfortune never coming singly?”
One leaned against a BMW X1, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, a sharp suit, holding a red folder.
Another looked forty or fifty, yet still robust, tall and slender, with his eyes covered by a black cloth, gripping a shoulder pole, full of menace, squatting at the Adult Store entrance.
The third was much more adorable, hugging a backpack, sitting timidly to the side, occasionally glancing at the other two.
“How did these three end up together?” I knew all three; the suited man with the BMW was the secretary to the CEO of Jiangjin Real Estate Company, a notable figure in Jiang City.
The menacing one with the shoulder pole was Blind Liu, clearly here for trouble, likely because the Thunder Talisman incident had been exposed.
As for the cute, shy high school student, naturally, it was Xia Qingzhi, worried about her brother’s safety.
“Hehe, your presence truly graces my humble shop, but due to my poor health, we’re closed today. Well, goodbye, goodbye…”
Just as I turned to leave, a gust of wind brushed past my cheek, and with a “thud,” the seven-foot shoulder pole struck the ground an inch from my foot, cracking the paving stone.
My throat tightened, realizing things were serious. Not to mention the other two, Blind Liu was definitely here to settle scores.
“Old Liu, what’s this about? We’re in a society governed by law, let’s talk it out, no need for violence.” With a bitter smile, I pulled out my keys: “Let’s not stand outside, it’s not a good look, let’s go inside and talk.”
“I won’t intrude, I can see you’re quite busy, Mr. Gao.” The Suit Man adjusted his glasses, wearing a professional smile: “This is the wedding invitation from Young Master Jiang and Miss Ye Bing. We hope you can grace us with your presence amidst your busy schedule. Not only Miss Ye Bing, but Young Master Jiang also wishes to meet you.”
“Meet me?” A rich kid born with a silver spoon wanting to see me, a poor nobody, at the wedding, just to step on me, show Ye Bing who the better choice is.
I could already foresee what would happen at the wedding, a bunch of sycophants would surely mock me, trying to please Young Master Jiang and make me look foolish.
“What a petty man, but it doesn’t matter, I promised Ye Bing I’d be there.” I’m not throwing in the towel, but there are things I need to say to that woman face to face.
“Then we’ll be honored to have you.” The gilded invitation was placed in my palm, and the Suit Man drove off in his BMW.
“One trouble gone, now two more.” Opening the shop door, hanging the ‘Closed’ sign, I invited Blind Liu and Xia Qingzhi inside.
