The Ultimate Horror Live Stream - Chapter 12 - Heavenly Thunder Talisman
Horror movies generally fall into two categories. One relies on atmosphere and buildup, keeping you in a constant state of heart-pounding suspense. The other hits you like a bolt from the blue, waking you from a deep slumber with a shock that sends your soul screaming.
Clearly, my situation fell into the latter category.
My heart raced, my limbs turned cold, and my body felt as if it had been thrown into an ice cellar, frozen and immobile.
I dared not turn around, my eyes fixed straight ahead, cold sweat trickling down my forehead, and every cry for help stuck in my throat.
“Who’s behind me? Who’s behind me?” The scene from my dream was almost replaying itself, yet I was powerless to struggle. “Is this sleep paralysis?”
A chill swept over me, piercing through my clothes like a dagger at my waist, or perhaps like invisible hands pressing down my spine, slowly creeping toward my neck.
“What is this? What on earth is this?” I was fully awake, certain that I wasn’t dreaming. Everything happening was in the real world, the world I’d lived in for twenty-five years!
My eyes widened, pupils darting, as a strand of black hair slowly appeared in my limited field of vision.
Dirty and tangled, mixed with grit and blood, it was not the kind of hair a normal person would have.
An inexplicable force gripped my neck, the eerie black hair climbing over my body, twisting my head bit by bit toward the back.
My vision was forcibly shifted, my eyes bloodshot, like a doll about to explode.
The pressure on my neck was increasing, and if it continued, I was sure to die.
“The talisman! Right, the talisman!” With a breath caught in my throat, I bit my tongue hard, the pain jolting my body, my fingers twitching as I swiftly grabbed the talisman from my chest.
A warm current surged through my limbs, and I leaped up from the bed as if wielding a blazing fire, striking behind me.
In that split second, I caught a glimpse of a blurred face reflected in my bloodshot eyes, but when the talisman fell, there was nothing there.
“Impossible…” The pain in my neck reminded me that what had just happened was no illusion.
Standing by the bed, I was still shaken. “Is there really a ghost?”
I picked up the camera and phone. If the Underworld Showroom’s equipment could capture ghosts, then everything should have been recorded.
That means the audience in the Live Room should have seen a real ghost!
“Is anyone there? Can someone tell me what happened after I fell asleep?” The Live Room was eerily quiet, as it was almost 3 a.m., and most people had gone to bed.
“Heavenly Thunder Talisman!” After a while, a lone bullet screen appeared in the Live Room, sent by none other than Liu the Half-Immortal from the Foot of Mount Qingcheng.
Seeing this ID, I felt like I’d grabbed a lifeline. “Half-Immortal, save me!”
“Kid, I don’t know what fortune you accumulated in your past life to get your hands on this Thunder Talisman prototype. If not for a benefactor’s help, then it’s fate; your life isn’t meant to end yet!”
“Half-Immortal, can you speak in terms I can understand? I’m waiting online, and it’s urgent!” Clutching the talisman, I stood by the bed, feeling unsafe in every direction.
“You are a mere mortal, filled with distractions. Staying in a haunted house at midnight will surely bring calamity, but the heavens leave a gap, and there’s a sliver of hope. That hope lies in the talisman prototype.”
“Is this talisman really that powerful?” After using it a few times, I noticed its aura had diminished, its brilliance subdued, becoming quite dim.
“Before I entered Qingcheng, I spent years searching for a five-hundred-year-old lightning-struck peach tree, using all my life’s learning to create a talisman coffin, hoping to nurture a Thunder Talisman.” Liu the Half-Immortal’s words were filled with a pride I couldn’t comprehend. “Unfortunately, after entering Qingcheng, I left the talisman coffin for my descendants to suppress the family’s fortune. If I were to open it now, it could rival the talisman prototype in your hand.”
“Half-Immortal, after your bragging, could you please help me out? I think I saw my shadow moving!”
“Do not panic. In the shadow lies the ghost. That movement is not your shadow. With yin-yang in the same room, and the Thunder Talisman’s protection, it harbors resentment and won’t rest until it possesses that woman.”
“What should I do? Should I jump out the window and call the police?”
“A rotten wood cannot be carved. Fine, saving a life is more meritorious than building a seven-story pagoda. I’ll make an exception and teach you the Thunder Talisman incantation!”
I was already at the window, one foot on the sill.
“Listen carefully. This house is a place of great misfortune, haunted by restless ghosts. To survive the night, you must hold righteous thoughts, be firm and resolute, and not succumb to selfishness or fear, lest you be bewitched by the ghosts.”
“Alright, I’ll do as you say.” It made sense; I couldn’t just leave Xiao Feng alone here, though it was odd she remained asleep despite the commotion.
“Possession by a ghost, kid, quickly do as I say! Clear your mind of distractions, visualize the Ziwei Star deity in the center, inhale through your nose, swallow down the middle, and circulate your energy.”
“Can you speak in terms humans understand? Is Ziwei Star the one from the TV show? And how do I visualize?” On the bed, Xiao Feng began to tremble unnaturally, her eyelids twitching, her upper body slowly sitting up.
“With sincerity, the deity will arrive. Do not make light of this, or disaster will befall you!”
“Damn! She’s sitting up! Can you tell me what’s more terrifying than this?”
Xiao Feng, like a puppet on strings, suddenly stood up, her eyes wide, mostly white.
“Xiao Feng, we have no enmity.”
“Speak no more, form the Thunder Talisman seal, and do as I say!”
“Press your index, middle, ring, and little fingers together, bend them toward your palm without touching it. Use the inside of your thumb to press down on the fingernails, keep them covered, don’t let them show!”
Liu the Half-Immortal’s bullet screen flashed rapidly, indicating urgency. Possessed Xiao Feng had stopped trembling, standing on the bed, staring coldly at me like a ghost.
“Clear your mind of distractions, recite the incantation with me!”
I had no time to read Liu the Half-Immortal’s next bullet screen, as the possessed Xiao Feng charged at me, a pair of scissors hidden in her hand.
Dodging the sharp scissors, I grabbed her arm, intending to use grappling techniques to subdue her, but Xiao Feng’s strength was immense.
Locked in a stalemate, she suddenly reached for the Thunder Talisman in my palm.
“This is my lifeline!” Pushing her away, I jumped onto the bed, intending to run for the door, but was tackled to the ground.
“Quick, recite the incantation!” Liu the Half-Immortal had posted the incantation in the Live Room. Desperate, I blocked the scissors aimed at my chest and loudly recited the incantation.
“Thunder Command, As Urgent As A Shooting Star, Gods of All Directions, Make Me Natural, Spiritual Talisman Command, Universal Announcement to the Nine Heavens, Qian Luo Da Na, Cavernous Void of Great Mystery, Slay Demons and Bind Evils, Kill Thousands of Ghosts! Disperse Evil Pollution, The breath of the Dao endures forever!”
The words echoed like a resounding bell, and the possessed Xiao Feng’s movements became sluggish.
“Now’s the time!”
“Heavenly Thunder Talisman!”
I flung the talisman, and miraculously, the thin piece of paper transformed into a golden blade of exorcism, flashing with electricity, piercing Xiao Feng’s chest.
With the Thunder Talisman as a guardian, the vengeful ghost retreated. Xiao Feng, who had been menacing moments ago, collapsed softly to the ground, her shadow tearing away, slipping across the wall, and darting into the Bathroom.
“I’ll spare you this time, but if there’s a next time, the Thunder Talisman will ensure your soul’s destruction!” Sitting on the floor, I was still shaken, my words fierce, but my legs too weak to stand.
“Kid, now is not the time to rest. While it’s weak, chase it down!”
“This… doesn’t seem right. A great man once said not to pursue a cornered enemy…”
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Though you managed to wound it with the Thunder Talisman, you’ve now formed a karmic bond with it. It might haunt you in the future.”
“Today has been an eye-opener.” A whole new world had unfolded before me. Whether I believed it or not, it had forced its way into my life.
Holding the camera in one hand and clutching the talisman and phone in the other, I gathered my gear and pushed open the Bathroom door. “It seemed to run in here last.”
