The President's Sweetheart Secretary - Chapter 19 - Truly a Coincidence
To soothe Yi Huahuan’s wounded spirit, Lin Haimian decided to fill Yi Huahuan’s stomach with food, leaving no room for anger or sulking. “Come on, you can choose tonight’s dishes. Whatever you pick, I’ll cook.”
Yi Huahuan’s eyes lit up, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. Lin Haimian noticed this wicked smile and suddenly had a bad feeling.
Scoffing at the thought of being mocked, Yi Huahuan pondered for a moment and then began to list the dishes with a smile. “I want stir-fried squid with green peppers. I’ll eat the squid, you eat the peppers. And Dongpo pork, pork rib soup, and a side of greens.”
Lin Haimian’s smile faded; these were all dishes she didn’t particularly like. Was Yi Huahuan trying to starve her?
Yi Huahuan glanced at Lin Haimian’s defeated expression and finally felt delighted, laughing heartily.
Ultimately, Yi Huahuan didn’t let Lin Haimian go hungry. When buying groceries, she chose items both of them liked, which touched Lin Haimian, albeit just a little.
Once everything was tidied up, Yi Huahuan, who was supposed to be heading home, sprawled on the sofa, unwilling to move. Lin Haimian asked curiously, “Are you staying over tonight?”
Yi Huahuan’s eyes sparkled, and she practically adored Lin Haimian. “Stay, stay, of course, I’ll stay.”
“What about your man? Aren’t you worried he’ll get jealous?” Lin Haimian sat down, snatching the poor pillow Yi Huahuan had twisted into an odd shape, and naturally restored it to its original form.
Yi Huahuan pouted, continuing to lounge on the sofa. “He’s always working late, doesn’t even bother with me. He hasn’t even asked why I’m not home yet.”
Lin Haimian could only smile. She didn’t know much about their relationship and felt it wasn’t her place to comment. “Maybe he’s still busy. You should text him, let him know you’re staying at my place tonight.”
Yi Huahuan remained silent, grabbing the restored pillow and continuing to watch TV.
Lin Haimian shrugged, saying nothing more.
The result of their late-night chatting was that they almost couldn’t get up the next morning. It was Lin Haimian’s awareness of not being late for the third time that saved them.
After getting off the bus, the two sprinted, rushing into the elevator, barely catching their breath. They almost lost it again because inside the elevator were the president and his assistant.
Lin Haimian’s first reaction was that she finally had the chance to repay the money, so she immediately put on a smile, intending to greet them, but Yi Huahuan beat her to it.
Yi Huahuan took a couple of breaths, trying to muster a less terrifying smile, and greeted the president and his assistant. “Good morning, President. Good morning, Assistant. What a coincidence to see you both first thing in the morning.”
Lin Haimian was stunned, her eyes widening as she looked at Liang Tongheng, slowly turning to Yi Huahuan, her finger trembling as she pointed at Liang Tongheng, her voice almost choking. “You, you, you called him what?”
Yi Huahuan looked puzzled. “The president and the assistant. Don’t tell me you don’t know them.”
Lin Haimian chose to die inside.
Liang Tongheng maintained his smile, as if he hadn’t seen or heard anything, politely returning the greeting. “Morning.”
Li Yi’s face darkened a bit. As Yi Huahuan greeted them, he silently complained in his heart. How did he end up meeting this foolish woman again? Foolish all day long, he wondered if she could be any more foolish.
The next moment, Yi Huahuan proved she could indeed be even more foolish. Li Yi was beyond words, only able to muster a polite greeting out of courtesy. “It’s not early anymore. If you don’t hurry, you’ll be late.”
The two snapped out of it, simultaneously raising their wrists to check the time. One minute left. The elevator dinged at the 12th floor, and they quickly bowed to the president before rushing out.
For a long time, before the elevator stopped, Li Yi finally managed to say, “Those two are wearing couple watches, children’s watches at that.”
Liang Tongheng’s eyes showed a hint of confusion. “You really pay attention to details.”
Li Yi shrugged. “It’s only because they both raised their hands to check their watches at the same time. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have noticed. Tsk tsk, one Mickey, one Minnie. It’s true that women’s love for cute things knows no borders or age.”
Liang Tongheng: “Girlfriend taught you?”
Li Yi felt a pang in his chest, “Don’t talk about such sad topics first thing in the morning. Haven’t even given my first love away yet.”
Liang Tongheng: “…”
During a break, Yi Huahuan decided to educate Lin Haimian. “Baby, not to criticize you, but how can you not recognize the president?”
Lin Haimian was on the verge of tears, practically choking. “I always thought he was the manager, the one I told you about.”
Yi Huahuan: “…”
After some thought, Yi Huahuan came up with a half-baked plan. “Let me tell you, from today on, whenever you see the president, greet him like I do. Increase his impression of you. If he happens to like your type, you’ll hit the jackpot!”
Lin Haimian’s mouth twitched. She felt powerless to argue. She was here to work, not to catch a rich husband. Why increase his impression? Why become the type he likes?
The overwhelmed Lin Haimian weakly nodded her head, indicating she understood.
Yi Huahuan: “…”
