The President's Sweetheart Secretary - Chapter 15 - Eat More, Talk Less
Yi Huahuan’s sudden movement caused the chair to crash against the wall with a loud thud, jolting Lin Haimian awake and drawing the attention of everyone in the office.
The other colleagues merely glanced over out of curiosity, seeing that Lin Haimian was fine, they returned to their tasks, seemingly uninterested in the commotion.
Manager Lin frowned as she approached, observing the odd posture of the two, and asked with concern, “Haimian, are you feeling unwell?”
Lin Haimian struggled to remove Yi Huahuan’s grip from her collar, nearly suffocating, and after a couple of coughs, she managed to stand up.
“Manager, I’m sorry. I think I forgot to eat breakfast this morning, and my blood sugar is low. If it weren’t for Huahuan, I might have fainted,” Lin Haimian explained truthfully. She had been in such a rush that morning that breakfast was out of the question. However, it was more due to exhaustion than low blood sugar.
Manager Lin’s brow furrowed slightly, a hint of reproach in her eyes behind her glasses, her tone subtly changing, “How could you forget breakfast? Go make yourself some sugar water.”
Lin Haimian smiled gratefully, “Thank you, Manager, I’ll do that right away.”
Yi Huahuan grabbed Lin Haimian’s collar again, “No, you stay seated. I’ll go. Three minutes, I’ll be right back.”
Before Lin Haimian could protest, Yi Huahuan was already sprinting towards the door, astonishingly fast despite her two-inch heels.
Lin Haimian offered an apologetic smile to Manager Lin, unsure of what to say. Manager Lin merely shook her head with a chuckle and returned to her desk.
Lin Haimian slumped back onto her desk. The scare had chased away all traces of sleepiness.
When lunchtime finally arrived and the colleagues had gone to the canteen, Yi Huahuan noticed Lin Haimian still looking limp and tried to help her up, but was refused.
Lin Haimian rubbed her forehead, “I’m fine, just had insomnia last night. I used to think I’d never suffer from it in my life, but now it’s really hit me, and I’m so tired.”
Yi Huahuan, startled, released her grip and took a while to find her voice, which came out a bit hoarse, “What did you say? Insomnia! Did I hear that right? Lin Baby, known for her excellent sleep quality, having insomnia!”
Lin Haimian pursed her lips, her tone filled with grievance, “It’s all because of you. You should have just told me the president saw us after work. I didn’t realize it until before bed, then all I could think about was the president telling me to get lost.”
Yi Huahuan was speechless.
Lin Haimian, realizing how it sounded, regretted her words. After all, just because an employee bumped into him, it wasn’t enough for someone to be told to leave, right?
Lin Haimian nervously glanced at Yi Huahuan’s disdainful look and laughed awkwardly, “Don’t be like that. It’s just that people’s spirits are more vulnerable at night.”
Upon hearing this, Yi Huahuan raised her eyebrows, her gaze becoming suggestive, “So, you should get a boyfriend. If this happens again, you know what you could do, hehe.”
Lin Haimian grimaced and pushed Yi Huahuan’s head to the side, “Let’s go eat, I’m so hungry my legs are weak.”
“Actually,” Yi Huahuan didn’t mind being pushed away, as she was used to Lin Haimian’s shyness, “if I didn’t know you were so chaste, I’d think you had a big battle of three hundred rounds last night.”
Lin Haimian turned green and barely squeezed out a response, “Sounds like you had a battle of three hundred rounds with your man last night.”
As soon as Lin Haimian spoke, she regretted it, because Yi Huahuan immediately put on a coquettish act, “Aww, you weren’t actually suffering from insomnia last night, you were spying on our three hundred rounds, weren’t you?”
Lin Haimian turned away in frustration, ignoring the delighted laughter from Yi Huahuan behind her. Discussing such topics with her was really too much!
Ten minutes later, the two sat in their usual spots. Lin Haimian devoured her food hungrily, having not eaten all morning she was starving, needing to refuel for the afternoon’s work.
Yi Huahuan, while eating, kept glancing around. When Lin Haimian was half full, Yi Huahuan sighed unhappily, “Hey, Baby, do you think the president was scared off by your bump, he hasn’t come to eat for two days.”
Lin Haimian crunched a chicken bone and looked up with a mournful expression, “Can you not discuss such terrifying topics while I’m eating? Are you trying to say I’m not brave enough?”
Yi Huahuan looked seriously at Lin Haimian for three seconds and actually nodded, “You finally understand my efforts. To train your courage, I’ve been racking my brains and working hard. I never thought you’d get it one day…”
Seeing Yi Huahuan about to start crying, Lin Haimian quickly stuffed a piece of chicken into her mouth, “Eat more, talk less.”
Yi Huahuan accepted the piece of chicken and let Lin Haimian off the hook for now, but she was serious; she did want to admire the president’s presence every day.
