The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 297 - Irrefutable Evidence
As soon as Mo Qinghuan appeared, the maids hurriedly rushed upstairs, complaining in unison, “Those police officers were about to force their way to the second floor, it’s outrageous.”
“Thank goodness you came out in time, Madam. Otherwise, they might have barged into your and Mr. Lu’s room.”
“Shh.” Mo Qinghuan placed her slender finger on her lips, maintaining her indifferent gaze at the embarrassed police officers downstairs. “There must be some misunderstanding, right? Otherwise, someone wouldn’t be trying to spy on me while I bathe, would they?”
Her words left the police momentarily speechless, prompting them to quickly apologize, “Yes, yes, there must be some misunderstanding. We’re just following orders. Please, Miss Mo, come with us.”
“Going with you is not a problem.” Mo Qinghuan descended the stairs with her usual regal demeanor, asking as she walked, “Since I’m a suspect, I have the right to know how the investigation is progressing, don’t I? Any news on the whereabouts of the private detective involved?”
“We’re still actively pursuing the detective, but the evidence against you for hiring him to commit murder is quite conclusive,” the officer regretfully informed her.
Mo Qinghuan’s expression remained unchanged. She raised an eyebrow, “Alright, I’ll go with you, but not to confess guilt-only to assist in your investigation.”
With that, she led the way to the front hall. Outside the Lu family mansion, a crowd of reporters and fans awaited. As soon as she stepped out, cameras flashed, capturing her every move. She smirked, knowing they weren’t there to support her but rather to push her further into the abyss.
A police officer approached, intending to handcuff her, but she gestured towards the reporters, smiling, “I’m still a public figure. Isn’t it too harsh to handcuff me in front of the cameras? Besides, I’m so frail. Are you afraid I might escape with so many of you strong officers around?”
The officer looked back at the team leader, who shook his head. Only then did the officer put the handcuffs away, saying, “In that case, Miss Mo, please come with us.”
The police car was parked outside the Lu family gates. As Mo Qinghuan was escorted by the police through the throng of reporters and fans, a man suddenly grabbed her hair, claiming to be a die-hard fan of Shen Meng. He cursed venomously, “Mo Qinghuan, it should be you who’s dead! Give us back Shen Meng’s life! You should die! Die!”
Though the police quickly subdued the man, the pain from her scalp being yanked lingered. Mo Qinghuan didn’t defend herself; she knew it was futile at this point.
However, she wasn’t about to admit defeat. She had already contacted Huo-Jie and arranged for a lawyer while in the bathroom. They should be waiting at the Police Station by now.
Amidst the curses of Shen Meng’s fans, Mo Qinghuan was finally placed in the police car. Once inside, she touched her scalp where it had been pulled, feeling a slight trickle of blood. She smirked bitterly, realizing how quickly people turn against you when you’re down.
Upon arriving at the Police Station, Huo-Jie and the lawyer were already waiting. Seeing Mo Qinghuan enter with her hair slightly disheveled, Huo-Jie rushed forward, grabbing Mo Qinghuan’s hand and angrily confronting the police, “What is going on here? Who pulled Qinghuan’s hair like this? Did you officers resort to unlawful measures against her?”
Turning to the lawyer, Huo-Jie instructed, “Remember the faces of these officers. I will hold each of them accountable for this!”
The police, aware they hadn’t protected Mo Qinghuan properly, remained silent under Huo-Jie’s tirade. Despite her status as a suspect, they were obliged to protect her from external harm.
Mo Qinghuan gently held Huo-Jie’s hand, her voice weary, “Huo-Jie, it wasn’t them. It was those crazed fans. Don’t give them a hard time.”
“Are you sure it wasn’t them?” Huo-Jie looked at Mo Qinghuan with concern, lamenting how she had never suffered like this since her debut. She sighed, “It’s all because of that damned private investigator. Qinghuan, don’t worry. I’ve sent people to find him. As long as he’s alive, we’ll find him and clear your name.”
Mo Qinghuan nodded, not responding further. Exhausted, she didn’t want to dwell on what hadn’t happened yet, only hoping Huo-Jie would truly find the person this time.
Accompanied by Huo-Jie and the lawyer, Mo Qinghuan was led into the interrogation room. The officer assigned to question her seemed somewhat intimidated, given Huo-Jie’s earlier outburst in the station that had become the talk of the town.
Clearing his throat, the male officer sipped his tea before asking, “Mo Qinghuan, do you admit to hiring someone to commit murder?”
“I hired a private investigator, not a hitman, so I cannot admit to that crime,” she replied calmly and intelligently.
The officer, anticipating her response, pressed on, “But Shen Meng died at the hands of the investigator you hired. That’s an undeniable fact. Even if you want to distance yourself, the law won’t let you.”
Mo Qinghuan was momentarily speechless, filled with grievances and questions. Yet, with the investigator missing, there was little she could do.
Huo-Jie squeezed Mo Qinghuan’s hand, offering support, then addressed the officer, “I understand the law is fair, but Qinghuan didn’t commit this crime. Must she be forced to confess? This matter has nothing to do with her. Instead of catching the real culprit, you’re harassing an innocent person? Is this how the police operate?”
“Those unrelated to the case should not interfere,” the male officer retorted defiantly.
Huo-Jie, frustrated, glanced at the lawyer. The lawyer nodded, presenting his credentials, and asserted, “I am Miss Mo’s legal representative. From now on, Miss Qinghuan will exercise her right to remain silent. Until the involved private investigator is apprehended, we will say nothing.”
“Ha, it’s rare to see someone so arrogant after wrongdoing!” The officer sneered, gripping his teacup tightly, as Mo Qinghuan’s gaze remained cool.
The lawyer promptly countered, “If we detect any intentional or unintentional defamation of Miss Mo by the police, we will hold you accountable for misconduct. Then, it won’t be Miss Mo facing court, but you. So, I advise you to act wisely.”
The officer, nearly slamming his teacup in frustration, realized Mo Qinghuan and her lawyer were not easily intimidated, and begrudgingly fell silent.
