The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 284 - News of Death
The next day.
When Mo Qinghuan woke up, Lu Yucheng was nowhere to be found. Although this wasn’t the first time, she still felt a twinge of disappointment.
Recently, too many things had happened within the Lu family. Lu Yucheng always pretended as if nothing was wrong, but Mo Qinghuan understood that having his rightful position and shares in the Lu Group stripped away couldn’t possibly leave him unaffected.
She had tried several times to talk to him about his troubles, but Lu Yucheng always found excuses to avoid the conversation. Perhaps it was his masculine pride, not wanting her to meddle or participate in everything, preferring to solve problems on his own to preserve his dignity.
However, Lu Yucheng completely overlooked how much his wife, Mo Qinghuan, felt for him. She wished she could help him carry some of the burden.
After freshening up, she headed downstairs. As she reached the staircase, a delightful aroma wafted from the kitchen. Without thinking, she asked, “What dish is being made this morning? It smells amazing!”
“It’s shrimp porridge I just learned to make.” Surprisingly, it wasn’t the voice of a maid, but the familiar tone of Lu Yucheng.
Mo Qinghuan hurried to the kitchen door and indeed saw him wearing an apron, gently stirring a pot of porridge. To Mo Qinghuan, this scene was as thrilling as winning the lottery. She couldn’t help but ask excitedly, “You didn’t go to the nursing home?”
“Mother’s health is improving, and the nurses can take care of her. Today, I plan to be a good husband and take care of my wife,” Lu Yucheng said with a smile, turning to see her with her hair still damp and casually draped over her shoulders, looking stunningly beautiful. He couldn’t resist leaning in to kiss her cheek, his tone filled with affection.
Yet Mo Qinghuan stubbornly replied, “Mother-in-law needs you the most right now. I’m fine.”
“When a woman says she’s fine, she often means the opposite.” As if he could see through her thoughts, Lu Yucheng placed the fragrant porridge on the dining table, removed his apron, and embraced her gently. “So from now on, don’t hide your feelings from me. Speak your mind openly. I’ll handle the pressure; you just need to be happy and carefree, alright?”
Seizing the moment, Mo Qinghuan blinked, stepping out of his embrace. She looked at him with a serious yet tender gaze and said, “Yucheng, since you know how much I care for you, why not try to understand me? I’m worried about you handling everything alone and want to help ease your burdens. Why won’t you give me that chance?”
“Qinghuan, the issues with Father and Lu Xuan aren’t easily resolved. I just don’t want you to worry,” Lu Yucheng sighed. He wished he could resolve things quickly, but Father Lu fully trusted Lu Xuan now, and Lu Xuan had successfully entered the Lu Group, taking over his position. Regaining it wouldn’t be a simple task.
Seeing that Lu Yucheng still seemed reluctant to involve Mo Qinghuan, she became somewhat angry, pushed him away, and sat down on the sofa, pouting as she said, “Fine, if you won’t let me worry about your issues, then don’t bother worrying about mine. We can each handle our own affairs and earn our keep. That way, no one will feel aggrieved.”
Her sulky demeanor almost made Lu Yucheng laugh. He had to admit, he was somewhat afraid of her saying such things because he knew Mo Qinghuan too well. She was used to being independent, and if he didn’t make up with her quickly, she might really do as she said.
So, he hurried over to the sofa, trying to put his arm around her shoulders, but Mo Qinghuan pushed him away. With no other choice, Lu Yucheng sighed and said, “Alright, alright, I was wrong, okay? Beautiful lady, could you please grace me with a smile and not hold this against me? I would be deeply honored.”
“Don’t give me that grin. A husband and wife who cannot share their thoughts and secrets are no different from ordinary friends,” Mo Qinghuan continued, her face stern, which completely dumbfounded Lu Yucheng.
It seemed she wasn’t just sulking-she was truly angry. Seeing this, Lu Yucheng backed off further and said, “You’re right. After all the shares of Lu Group were taken back, I was in a bad mood. I said I was going to the sanatorium to be with mom, but actually, I didn’t want you to see me in such a despondent state. Qinghuan, I’m your husband, and I always want to appear strong and dignified in your eyes, not helpless and wounded, you understand?”
Finally, Lu Yucheng opened up to Mo Qinghuan, sharing his difficulties and vulnerabilities. Mo Qinghuan stopped sulking and looked at him seriously, cupping his face in her hands as she replied:
“But don’t you realize how worried I get when you don’t talk about it? I start overthinking and become restless. Yucheng, precisely because you are my husband, I want to hear about your worries and insecurities, because I love you. Please don’t overlook this love, okay?”
Looking into Mo Qinghuan’s eyes, Lu Yucheng sighed and said with a wry smile, “You’re right, Qinghuan. I was wrong. I just didn’t want to disturb your happiness, but I forgot that we are married, meant to share both joys and sorrows. I promise I won’t do this again. I will share my concerns with you, so please, don’t be mad anymore, okay?”
Locking eyes, they finally smiled at each other. In fact, Mo Qinghuan wasn’t really angry; she had used this tactic to make Lu Yucheng feel she was upset so that he would open up. All things considered, Mo Qinghuan had the upper hand.
Just as Mo Qinghuan was blissfully enjoying the meal Lu Yucheng had prepared, her phone suddenly rang. It was Huo-Jie calling. Without much thought, Mo Qinghuan answered, but within less than ten seconds, her expression turned ugly, and her body stiffened.
Seeing her reaction, Lu Yucheng was puzzled. He frowned and asked, “Qinghuan? What’s wrong? Why do you look so upset?”
But Mo Qinghuan didn’t respond, as if she couldn’t even hear Lu Yucheng speaking. Wanting to understand what was happening, Lu Yucheng took the phone and said, “Hello? Huo-Jie? What did you just say to Qinghuan? Why has she gone completely stiff?”
“Mr. Lu?” Huo-Jie’s voice was unusually agitated. Hearing Lu Yucheng speak, she immediately explained, “I just received a call from a journalist I know, saying that this morning, the police found Shen Meng’s body in the suburbs. She was completely naked, and it appears she had been sexually assaulted before her death.”
“You mean Shen Meng is dead?” In this vast world, countless people die or are born every day, but it was only yesterday that Mo Qinghuan had taken Shen Meng to court, and today her death was reported? No wonder Mo Qinghuan looked so upset.
Lu Yucheng took Mo Qinghuan’s hand, seemingly to comfort her, but he continued to press Huo-Jie, “Is the news reliable? Have the police caught the killer?”
