The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 283 - Being Followed
Shen Meng finally received a call from Secretary Wang, informing her that Lu Xuan would be waiting for her at a certain café at eight o’clock in the evening. She had been eagerly preparing, applying a stunning makeup in front of the mirror and slipping into a sexy long dress, paired with high heels, arriving early to wait.
About half an hour later, Lu Xuan and Secretary Wang appeared. Seeing Lu Xuan approaching from afar, his tall figure and confident, handsome face made Shen Meng fantasize about the possibility of climbing the social ladder by marrying into the Lu family. Surely, she would outshine Mo Qinghuan if she succeeded.
With such thoughts in mind, Shen Meng prepared to take action. She stood up, looking at Lu Xuan with a face full of grievance, and said, “Mr. Lu, you finally came.”
“Sorry, there was traffic, so I was a bit late,” Lu Xuan replied, frowning at the sight of Shen Meng’s seductive attire. He wouldn’t tell her that he had intentionally delayed his arrival. Earlier, Secretary Wang had noticed someone secretly following Shen Meng. To confirm this suspicion, they arrived outside the café ahead of time, waiting until Shen Meng, swaying her hips, entered before delaying their entrance by half an hour.
Once she was inside, Lu Xuan indeed spotted a mysterious black car parked at the café entrance. It seemed someone was taking photos with a camera, aiming at Shen Meng’s location.
Shen Meng appeared even more oblivious than expected, completely unaware of being followed. Secretary Wang kindly advised, “Mr. Lu, I think it’s best not to enter the café. We don’t know who sent the paparazzi. If they capture photos of you with Shen Meng, a star known for scandalous company, it could harm your reputation.”
“If I don’t go in, Shen Meng might cause a scene at Lu Group the next day, which would be more embarrassing than showing up now,” Lu Xuan smirked. He didn’t mind being photographed; leveraging Shen Meng’s current online notoriety could even be advantageous. He was more curious about who had sent the paparazzi.
He instructed Secretary Wang, “Find out who’s so interested in my personal life. If necessary, seize the camera and photos.”
“Understood, Mr. Lu,” Secretary Wang nodded, accompanying Lu Xuan into the café. In a corner unnoticed by Shen Meng, the camera continued to snap away, while Secretary Wang dismissed her obliviousness.
As Lu Xuan entered, Shen Meng began to assess herself under his gaze. She assumed her deliberately sexy outfit had caught his interest. After all, despite Lu Xuan’s usual aloof demeanor, he was still a man, and men are drawn to beautiful women, like her.
Feigning shyness, she softly asked, “Mr. Lu, why are you looking at me like that? Is there something dirty on my face, or is my dress not attractive enough for you?”
“No, Miss Shen, you’re beautiful no matter what you wear. I’m just curious why you’ve suddenly dressed up so meticulously,” Lu Xuan remarked, his sharp eyes easily discerning Shen Meng’s attempt to seduce him. However, he was not the type to fall for such tactics, especially from a celebrity with a chaotic personal life like Shen Meng. Given his status in the Lu Group, he could easily attract many with a mere gesture if he wished.
Still, he was intrigued by what Shen Meng was up to. So, feigning interest, he smiled and asked.
Shen Meng gave a shy smile, glancing at Secretary Wang, and deliberately puffed out her chest, replying, “What woman wouldn’t want to show her best side in front of an outstanding man?”
“Heh, I see,” Lu Xuan responded with a polite smile, taking a sip of his coffee and averting his gaze from Shen Meng. He then continued, “By the way, I heard from Secretary Wang that you were in a hurry to see me at the Lu Group this afternoon? Was there something urgent? Unfortunately, I was in a meeting and couldn’t leave.”
“I understand you’re busy, Mr. Lu, but you must help me with this,” Shen Meng said, reaching out to hold Lu Xuan’s hand, pleading coquettishly.
Lu Xuan didn’t pull away or respond to her gesture, instead, he asked with interest, “What could be so urgent that it makes you this anxious, Miss Shen? Why don’t you tell me, and if I can help, I certainly will.”
“I knew you cared about me the most, Mr. Lu. If you’re willing, you can definitely help,” Shen Meng said, confident that Lu Xuan wouldn’t refuse her. She then recounted how Mo Qinghuan had sued her, embellishing the story to portray herself as the innocent victim, hoping to gain Lu Xuan’s sympathy.
Unbeknownst to her, Lu Xuan was already aware of the situation through the internet and had Secretary Wang investigate it. The findings were quite the opposite of Shen Meng’s tale; she had provoked Mo Qinghuan first, leading to the lawsuit. Yet here she was, playing the victim and badmouthing Mo Qinghuan to Lu Xuan.
In truth, Lu Xuan was already impatient, but his years of working abroad had taught him not to easily reveal his true feelings. So, he pretended to have just learned about the matter, nodded, withdrew his hand, and replied, “Qinghuan does have a bit of a temper. Why take such a small issue to court with a former partner? I think this matter could be resolved amicably.”
“If only Mo Qinghuan were as forgiving as you, Mr. Lu, I wouldn’t be in this predicament,” Shen Meng sighed, tears welling up in her eyes. She wiped them away and cautiously looked at Lu Xuan, asking, “So, you’ll help me, right? Didn’t you send a lawyer to bail me out the last time I was falsely accused and taken to the Police Station? This should be a piece of cake for you, right?”
“It seems so,” Lu Xuan replied with a slight smile, not bothering to look at the tears Shen Meng forced out. He simply enjoyed his coffee as if listening to an amusing story.
Shen Meng, however, took it seriously and almost jumped up to hug Lu Xuan in public, seeing him as her savior.
She repeatedly thanked him, saying, “Thank you, Mr. Lu. I promise to behave well in the future and never disappoint you.”
Lu Xuan smiled back, his eyes reflecting a mix of mockery and disappointment. It seemed she hadn’t noticed the person tailing her outside. Such a foolish woman, only interested in marrying into wealth. He had to admit, he had chosen the wrong partner this time.
