The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 281 - Sending Someone to Follow
Shen Meng was completely dumbfounded and instinctively wanted to seek help. However, the ‘friends’ who had been flattering her just moments ago were now finding various excuses to leave.
Grabbing the arm of the last person, Shen Meng angrily demanded, “Didn’t you say you would help me? Is leaving me your way of helping?”
“I’m really sorry, Shen Meng-Jie, but I have some family matters to attend to. Let’s get in touch later.” The friend couldn’t answer Shen Meng’s question. After all, the so-called friendship was nothing more than a self-deceptive tactic. When Shen Meng was powerful and influential, they all flocked to her. But as soon as trouble arose, they scattered, not wanting to get involved in any legal issues because of her.
In truth, Shen Meng had similar thoughts. Hearing from the court staff that there were still two weeks until the trial date, she quickly hailed a cab and headed to the Lu Group. The only person who could save her now was Lu Xuan, right? After all, he had previously sent a lawyer to get her out of the Police Station. Handling this matter should be child’s play for Lu Xuan.
Little did she know, Mo Qinghuan had already sent someone to secretly observe her every move. Any sign of trouble would be immediately reported to Mo Qinghuan, who intended to use this method to find evidence that Shen Meng was the culprit.
At the Lu family, Mo Qinghuan had fought a brilliant battle, but Lu Yucheng, just back from the nursing home, was unaware. It wasn’t until he checked his phone that he saw the news of Shen Meng and Mo Qinghuan’s public spat.
With a hint of a smile, he headed to the kitchen to prepare a dish specifically for Mo Qinghuan, celebrating her triumph over Shen Meng.
As he donned an apron, Mo Qinghuan, coming downstairs, caught sight of him. For some reason, she found a sense of cuteness in this usually handsome and charming man’s face.
Unable to resist teasing him, she said, “I think I’ve finally figured out why you didn’t choose to be a chef.”
“Qinghuan? You’re awake?” When Lu Yucheng came in, the maid had informed him that Mo Qinghuan was asleep. Seeing her come downstairs and talk to him with a smile, Lu Yucheng felt his heart melting.
Although Shen Meng had been released due to insufficient evidence, Mo Qinghuan didn’t wallow in self-pity. Instead, she remained optimistic and rational, which Lu Yucheng greatly admired. He doubted that a man in the same situation would handle it as well as Mo Qinghuan did.
Nodding, Mo Qinghuan hugged Lu Yucheng from behind, murmuring with reliance, “It’s because you look not only handsome but also adorable in an apron. If you became a chef, there would be countless women falling for you.”
“It doesn’t matter if others love me or not. As long as you have me in your heart, I’m completely satisfied.” Smiling, Lu Yucheng turned and kissed her forehead.
Due to the smell of cooking, Mo Qinghuan was ‘banished’ from the kitchen, but she stubbornly stood at the door, asking, “How is mother-in-law’s health? Is the equipment at the nursing home adequate to take good care of her?”
“The moment she woke up at noon, she spoke a few words to me. Although she’s still quite weak, she seems much more spirited. As for the equipment, it’s the best in the country. I believe she’ll be discharged soon,” Lu Yucheng shared, his mood visibly lifted.
Hearing this, Mo Qinghuan finally breathed a sigh of relief. Despite the day’s troubles, the good news about Mother Lu was a comforting thought. She sincerely hoped for her quick recovery, so Lu Yucheng could be at ease.
Seeing his good spirits, Mo Qinghuan cautiously asked, “Does mother-in-law know about Lu Xuan taking over Lu Group?”
“I haven’t told her,” Lu Yucheng replied, his voice feigning strength. “To avoid affecting her recovery, I’ve instructed the nurses and doctors to keep this from her for now. I hope to tell her myself when she’s better, to spare her any further distress.”
“I trust your decision is the best one. Mother-in-law will understand your thoughtful intentions,” Mo Qinghuan nodded in agreement.
A dish of spicy boiled fish was served on the table, making Mo Qinghuan burst into laughter. No matter how heavy the burden on Lu Yucheng’s shoulders, he never seemed to forget her preferences and tastes.
Eagerly, she picked up a piece of fish and savored it, while Lu Yucheng watched her with a doting expression. Mo Qinghuan gave him a thumbs-up, saying, “Yucheng, your cooking skills are really improving. This boiled fish not only lacks any fishy smell but is also incredibly tender. It’s even better than a chef’s work.”
“If you like it, eat more. The whole fish is yours,” Lu Yucheng said, not only preparing the fish but also thoughtfully making a bowl of soup to counter the spiciness, placing it in front of her. Seeing her enjoy the meal made him feel happier than anything else.
Meanwhile, Shen Meng, repeatedly urging the driver to speed up, finally arrived at the Lu Group building. Unaware of being followed, she hurriedly tried to rush into the office but was stopped at the reception.
Despite recognizing her as a once-famous actress, the receptionist noticed Shen Meng’s disheveled appearance, smelling of alcohol and dressed in casual clothes. With Lu Xuan now the new head of Lu Group, many women sought to curry favor with him-wealthy heiresses, movie stars, and more.
Previously, Secretary Wang had instructed that Lu Xuan would not meet anyone without an appointment. Thus, the receptionist stopped Shen Meng, asking, “Miss Shen, did you make an appointment to see Mr. Lu?”
“Since you know who I am, why do I need an appointment to see Mr. Lu? Last time, I didn’t have an appointment and walked right in,” Shen Meng replied arrogantly, assuming her collaboration with Lu Xuan granted her higher status. Being stopped by the receptionist left her feeling indignant.
However, the receptionist, maintaining professionalism, patiently explained with a smile, “Last time, Miss Shen was brought into the office by Secretary Wang, so an appointment wasn’t necessary. Today, I haven’t received any notice from Mr. Lu about meeting Miss Shen, so please wait a moment while I confirm with Secretary Wang.”
“Confirm what? I have urgent matters to discuss with Mr. Lu. If there’s a delay, can you take responsibility?” Shen Meng insisted on barging in despite the receptionist’s advice.
Her actions alerted the security, who promptly stopped her. No matter how angry she became, without approval from Lu Xuan or Secretary Wang, she wouldn’t be allowed near the elevator.
Following protocol, the receptionist called Secretary Wang. Already displeased with Shen Meng, Secretary Wang quickly took the elevator downstairs upon hearing about her commotion in the lobby. Seeing him, Shen Meng immediately approached, adopting a haughty stance, and pointed at the receptionist who had blocked her path, saying:
“Secretary Wang, tell them who I am. Do I have the right to enter Lu Group or not?”
