The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 276 - Using Shen Meng
After Lu Yucheng’s shares were completely taken away, Lu Xuan officially entered Lu Group, taking over all operations. When announcing this news, Father Lu deliberately invited numerous media reporters, as if expressing his deep expectations for Lu Xuan, hoping he wouldn’t disappoint him like Lu Yucheng did.
Once the news became public, it immediately attracted a lot of attention. Huo-Jie also called to inquire about the reasons behind it, after all, Lu Yucheng was doing well as the Chairman, so how could he suddenly be replaced by Lu Xuan?
Some people sympathized with Lu Yucheng and Mo Qinghuan, while others felt they brought it upon themselves, including Shen Meng.
Upon hearing the news, Shen Meng was so delighted that she didn’t sleep the entire night. Smoking a cigarette, she scoffed to herself, “Mo Qinghuan, oh Mo Qinghuan, once the news of you marrying into a wealthy family made so many sisters in Showbiz green with envy. But who would have thought your status as a wealthy wife would be so short-lived? With Lu Yucheng ousted from Lu Group, you might become a laughingstock in Showbiz.”
Just as she was reveling in her thoughts, her phone suddenly rang. It was an unknown number. Shen Meng initially didn’t want to answer, but the persistent ringing left her no choice. Annoyed, she picked up, her voice tinged with anger, “Who is it? Can’t a person get some sleep at this hour?”
“With Lu Yucheng ousted from Lu Group and Mo Qinghuan’s dream of being a wealthy wife shattered, I think this is good news for Miss Shen. Can you really sleep soundly?” The eerie voice of the stranger made Shen Meng frown. She could usually guess the identity of men she had interacted with by their voice, but this one left her mind blank.
Thinking it was just a prank call, Shen Meng scoffed, “Mister, if you have nothing better to do at night, spend some money to find a woman to keep you company, okay? Don’t make random prank calls, you lunatic.”
She was about to hang up, but just as her phone was leaving her ear, the stranger suddenly spoke again, “I guarantee, if you hang up now, Miss Shen will regret it for the rest of her life.”
Perhaps out of curiosity, or maybe the man’s words piqued her interest, she chuckled, “You’re quite amusing. You call without introducing yourself and claim I’ll regret hanging up? Who do you think you are? God or the President of the United States?”
“I’m Lu Xuan. Though there’s still quite a gap between me and the two people Miss Shen mentioned, if you’re not interested, feel free to hang up.” The man’s voice was somewhat teasing.
Little did she know, just the name Lu Xuan was enough to leave Shen Meng speechless with surprise. She couldn’t believe it and asked for confirmation, “Who did you say you are?”
“Lu Xuan.” Successfully capturing Shen Meng’s interest was precisely why Lu Xuan made this call.
Shen Meng thought she was dreaming. She pinched her thigh, and the sharp pain reminded her that this was reality, not a dream. Yet, she still had doubts. If the caller was truly Lu Xuan, why would he be calling her? Surely, he wasn’t inviting her for a drink, was he?
With this doubt in mind, Shen Meng asked, puzzled, “Are you really Lu Xuan, Mr. Lu? It’s so late, what could you possibly want with me?”
“I heard that Miss Shen and Mo Qinghuan are sworn enemies, so I wanted to propose a deal with you. Would Miss Shen be interested?” Lu Xuan probed, knowing full well that the offer he was about to make was one Shen Meng couldn’t refuse.
The moment Lu Xuan mentioned a deal, Shen Meng’s mind raced with possibilities. First, Lu Xuan had become the new head of the Lu Group, which likely meant he wasn’t on friendly terms with Lu Yucheng. Second, knowing she had a grudge against Mo Qinghuan and still reaching out to her indicated that Lu Xuan wasn’t fond of the couple either.
After considering these points, Shen Meng laid her ambitions bare before Lu Xuan and asked, “What can Mr. Lu offer me?”
“Doesn’t Miss Shen want to return to Showbiz and showcase her talents once more? I have the power to make you shine brighter than Mo Qinghuan.” Lu Xuan certainly had the capability, and Shen Meng had no doubt that if the Lu Group decided to support her, her tarnished reputation would be instantly cleansed, allowing her to return to the stage she had longed for.
For this dream, even if Lu Xuan made excessive demands, Shen Meng would agree without hesitation. So she answered without a second thought, “Alright, if Mr. Lu can truly make me famous again, I’m willing to do anything for him.”
“Very well, come to my office tomorrow at ten in the morning for a detailed discussion.” Lu Xuan was wary of eavesdroppers, especially with phones being unreliable communication devices. If the call were overheard, it could spell trouble. Besides, he wanted to see how Shen Meng would express her determination.
With the time set, Shen Meng didn’t sleep that night. She envisioned herself standing on stage once more, basking in glory, with countless fans cheering her on. Such a splendid life was truly meant for her.
The next day, at the appointed time, as Shen Meng walked into the Lu Group building, despite her seductive and glamorous attire, all carefully chosen from luxury brands, she still felt an inexplicable anxiety under the scrutinizing gazes of the employees. Perhaps it was because she hadn’t been in the public eye for so long?
As she inquired about the way to Lu Xuan’s office, Secretary Wang appeared behind her, admiring her curvaceous figure before patting her on the back and asking, “Miss Shen? I’m Mr. Lu’s secretary, Wang. Mr. Lu is expecting you. Please follow me.”
If Shen Meng had any doubts last night about whether the caller was truly Lu Xuan, she could now be completely certain.
Following Secretary Wang, Shen Meng tried her best not to show her inner nervousness. In the elevator, she curiously asked, “Secretary Wang, do you know what Mr. Lu wants to discuss with me?”
“You should ask Mr. Lu yourself when you meet him,” Secretary Wang replied, tight-lipped, which annoyed Shen Meng. She rolled her eyes, deciding not to pursue the conversation further.
Finally reaching the floor where Lu Xuan’s office was located, Secretary Wang led her to the office door, opened it, and reminded her, “Mr. Lu is very busy, so please don’t disturb him more than necessary after hearing his instructions.”
“Got it,” Shen Meng replied, exasperated, thinking to herself that although Lu Xuan had summoned her, she still had to heed the instructions of a mere secretary. Truly, one had to bow under the eaves.
Shen Meng fantasized that once she succeeded, she wouldn’t have to look at anyone’s face again. With this hope, her mood improved significantly. As she stepped into the office in her high heels, she indeed saw a man sitting behind the desk. The sunlight streaming in made him appear handsome and dashing.
