The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 269 - Not Buying It
“You don’t even know who I am? It seems Lu Xuan isn’t doing a good job as the general manager,” Lu Yucheng fumed, already in a bad mood and now being stopped at the door by the receptionist, his anger only intensified.
The receptionist, however, just found the tall, handsome man in front of her somewhat familiar but couldn’t quite place him. She could only respond formally, “I’m sorry, sir, but without an appointment, you can’t meet our general manager. Please leave.”
“Get out of my way!” Lu Yucheng prided himself on being a gentleman, never raising a hand against women. But when it came to Lu Xuan’s people, gender didn’t matter to him.
The commotion between Lu Yucheng and the receptionist drew the attention of the secretary, who scolded, “What’s all this noise? Don’t you know Mr. Lu is in a conference call? If you disrupt his work, can you bear the consequences?”
“I’m sorry, Secretary Wang, it’s not my intention to cause a scene. This gentleman insists on barging in,” the receptionist explained, feeling wronged. She was just trying to do her job by stopping Lu Yucheng, who was trying to force his way in. Who knew she’d be blamed by the secretary?
“Who dares to be so bold?” At that moment, Lu Yucheng had his back to the secretary. Hearing the mention of Secretary Wang, he turned around coldly, his stern gaze intimidating. But after just one look, the secretary’s demeanor became submissive, and he bowed slightly, saying:
“Mr. Lu? The renowned Mr. Lu visiting us unexpectedly, no wonder our receptionist didn’t recognize you immediately. Please don’t hold it against us.”
“I’m not Lu Xuan, and I don’t appreciate insincere flattery. Save your sycophantic words; they don’t work on me,” Lu Yucheng said, his gaze icy as he assessed the so-called Secretary Wang. He had a knack for judging people, and this secretary didn’t impress him.
“Of course, Mr. Lu’s words are like an edict. How could I not comply?” Secretary Wang continued to fawn, catching the receptionist’s confused look out of the corner of his eye. He deliberately scolded her in front of Lu Yucheng:
“What are you standing there for? Apologize to Mr. Lu immediately! Do you know who he is? He’s the Chairman of the Lu family company and Lu Xuan’s brother, Lu Yucheng!”
With Secretary Wang’s reminder, the receptionist finally remembered. No wonder Lu Yucheng looked so familiar at first glance. He was Mo Qinghuan’s husband, who had made headlines when they participated in a variety show despite their busy schedules. The receptionist had been too focused on Lu Xuan’s visitors to recognize Lu Yucheng.
Realizing Lu Yucheng’s identity, the receptionist no longer wore the impatient look from before. Instead, she approached him with a coquettish smile, “Oh, it’s Mr. Lu. I’m so sorry I didn’t recognize you. It’s my fault for being so ignorant. Mr. Lu, you won’t be mad at me, will you?”
The receptionist’s flirtatious demeanor made Secretary Wang chuckle to himself. When hiring, they had chosen her for her looks and her knack for dealing with men. It turned out to be the right choice, as the company had indeed changed many partners’ minds because of her. Although the method was something they didn’t openly discuss, Lu Xuan had always said that the result was what mattered, not the process.
Lu Yucheng had assumed that, like the other men before him, he would be drawn in by the receptionist’s seductive demeanor. But to his surprise, he coldly pushed Secretary Wang aside, shrugged off the suit jacket she had brushed against, and tossed it into the trash can with a look of disdain.
“If you’re trying to lure men with that trick, you’d better give up now. Your looks and your flirting skills aren’t even on the same level. Instead of wasting time, why not get some cosmetic surgery? At least then I might find you remotely interesting.”
“You!” The receptionist hadn’t expected her plan to seduce Lu Yucheng to not only fail but also result in such blatant humiliation. She had never failed before. Frustrated, she glanced at Secretary Wang, who gave her a knowing look. Reluctantly, she returned to her post.
Secretary Wang feigned innocence and apologized to Lu Yucheng, saying, “Mr. Lu, I’m really sorry. Your charm is just too overwhelming; even our receptionist couldn’t resist throwing herself at you. But Mr. Lu, you’re married to the most outstanding star in Showbiz, so naturally, you wouldn’t be interested in such ordinary women, right?”
“Stop wasting my time. Just tell me, where is Lu Xuan?” He had already wasted too much time and didn’t want to continue this pointless exchange with Secretary Wang. Finding Lu Xuan was his goal.
Secretary Wang knew this well and deliberately tried to stall Lu Yucheng, preventing him from entering Lu Xuan’s office. He said apologetically, “Mr. Lu, I’m really sorry. Mr. Lu is in a meeting right now and can’t spare the time to meet. If it’s not too much trouble, could you come back another time?”
“Another time? You’re the first person bold enough to say that to me!” Did he even realize who he was talking to, thinking he could be brushed off by a mere secretary?
Secretary Wang frowned and replied, “It’s not that I’m being difficult, but Mr. Lu doesn’t have the best temper. If I let you in and disrupt his meeting, and he blames me, I can’t bear the consequences. Mr. Lu, please don’t make things difficult for us working folks.”
Lu Yucheng’s cold gaze fell on Secretary Wang, who continued to explain, though it was really just an excuse to prevent him from meeting Lu Xuan. No wonder he was Lu Xuan’s secretary; his sly and cunning nature was a perfect match for Lu Xuan himself.
With a sneer, Lu Yucheng reached out and unceremoniously shoved Secretary Wang aside, stating, “If you can’t handle Lu Xuan’s temper, do you think you can handle mine? If you don’t want to be permanently kicked out of the secretary profession, you’d better stay out of my way.”
Lu Yucheng couldn’t dictate Lu Xuan’s decisions, like firing Secretary Wang, but he could report his misconduct to the Secretary Association, which would revoke his qualifications. Then Lu Xuan would have no choice but to dismiss someone who couldn’t even be called a secretary.
Secretary Wang was taken aback, his face showing signs of fear as he realized Lu Yucheng was not someone to be trifled with. Yet, as a secretary, he continued to try to block Lu Yucheng. But Lu Yucheng was one step ahead, kicking open the door to Lu Xuan’s office without hesitation.
The loud noise not only startled the employees outside but also surprised Lu Xuan, who was in the middle of a video conference. He turned sharply, and upon seeing Lu Yucheng’s angry face, he wasn’t surprised. Instead, he smiled warmly, apologized to the conference participants, and ended the video call.
Secretary Wang bowed apologetically, saying, “I’m really sorry, Mr. Lu. I tried my best to stop Mr. Lu, but he…”
“Enough, this doesn’t concern you anymore. You can leave now.” Lu Xuan waved his hand, indicating he wasn’t bothered by Lu Yucheng’s unauthorized entry or the fact that he had just kicked down the expensive office door.
