The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 268 - Anger Rising
Holding Mo Qinghuan close, Lu Yucheng finally noticed her trembling body. He looked up at Huo-Jie, whose face was filled with envy, and demanded, “What on earth is going on here? How could someone poison the hospital? Has the identity of the culprit been uncovered?”
“This…” Huo-Jie snapped out of her envious daydream at Lu Yucheng’s almost roaring inquiry. Indeed, Lu Yucheng’s gentleness was reserved solely for Mo Qinghuan; to him, everyone else was just a humble employee or a worker.
Faced with his questioning, Huo-Jie was at a loss for words and could only express helplessness: “There were two perpetrators in total. Although our people tried their best, they only managed to catch one, but couldn’t extract any useful information from him. We only know he was instigated by someone else to poison the hospital. The police said the phone number used by the culprit is untraceable, making it difficult to identify them.”
“What? You bunch of incompetents! What’s the point of having you around if you can’t handle such a minor issue? Why wasn’t the security around the ward strengthened? Huo-Jie, you always claim that your relationship with Qinghuan goes beyond that of an agent and a performing artist, that you consider her a good friend, a sister. Is this how you show it? You’ve let me down.”
Lu Yucheng had agreed to Mo Qinghuan’s return to Showbiz because he believed Huo-Jie could take good care of her. However, after this poisoning incident, he suddenly felt that no one around him was trustworthy, including Huo-Jie. She couldn’t even ensure Mo Qinghuan’s safety, which was a major failure as an agent.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Lu, I was too negligent. But I never imagined such a thing as hospital poisoning even in my wildest dreams.” Huo-Jie, like a child who had done something wrong, stood beside Lu Yucheng with her hands behind her back, ready to be thoroughly reprimanded. In truth, even if he didn’t scold her, Huo-Jie felt she hadn’t done enough. As an agent, failing to protect her performing artist was the greatest failure.
However, Mo Qinghuan, comforted in Lu Yucheng’s embrace, knew full well it wasn’t Huo-Jie’s fault. She sighed and said, “Yucheng, don’t blame Huo-Jie. Luckily, she smartly took the drugs for testing; otherwise, we might still be in the dark about this.”
“Qinghuan, I know you consider Huo-Jie a friend, but this incident was due to the company’s negligence, and I won’t overlook it.” Hearing Mo Qinghuan finally speak, Lu Yucheng felt his anxious heart ease a bit. He sighed, holding her tighter, and continued:
“And when such a big thing happened, why didn’t you tell me immediately? Do you know how worried I was when I saw the news online? If anything had happened to you, how could I continue living peacefully in this world? Do you understand, Qinghuan?”
“But when I saw you at home, you looked upset, and I thought you believed the rumors and didn’t trust me. Then, when I woke up and found you weren’t home, how could I tell you about the danger I faced?” Mo Qinghuan felt quite aggrieved about this. She had wanted to tell Lu Yucheng about the incident, but it seemed he hadn’t given her the chance to explain.
Realizing the misunderstanding between them, Lu Yucheng sighed helplessly, “Ah, Qinghuan, why would I not want to hear your explanation? I trust your character regarding the rumors; I know you and Liang Yi are innocent. As for why I left the Lu family, I’ll explain it to you later, okay? You’ve been frightened enough; you should rest.”
The matter concerning Mother Lu would have to wait for another opportunity to discuss with Mo Qinghuan. After all, Mother Lu was out of danger, and given Mo Qinghuan’s current state of shock, Lu Yucheng only wanted to offer gentle comfort without adding to her mental burden.
Even though Huo-Jie mentioned the real culprit behind the poisoning hadn’t been caught, Lu Yucheng was almost certain about the identity of the perpetrator-it had to be Lu Xuan!
From the moment that guy reappeared, coincidentally rescuing Mo Qinghuan from a car crash, along with his recent behavior, expecting Lu Yucheng to believe Lu Xuan was innocent was like asking him to climb a mountain. After comforting Mo Qinghuan and instructing Huo-Jie to take good care of her, Lu Yucheng made an excuse about urgent business at the company, promising to return as soon as possible.
Although Mo Qinghuan sensed something off about Lu Yucheng’s demeanor, his eyes were filled with seriousness and intensity when he mentioned going to the company. But before she could speak, Huo-Jie eagerly assured, “Don’t worry, Mr. Lu. This time, I’ll protect Qinghuan with my life if necessary. Besides, this is the talent agency; the poisoner wouldn’t be foolish enough to come here and harm Qinghuan.”
Seizing the chance to redeem herself, Huo-Jie was determined to make the most of it.
“I hope you won’t disappoint me again,” Lu Yucheng found it hard to trust Huo-Jie anymore, but given the circumstances, he had no better choice than to rely on her to care for Mo Qinghuan.
He gently released Mo Qinghuan from his embrace, murmuring, “Don’t worry, Qinghuan. It’s all over now; the real culprit will soon be revealed.”
“Yucheng, are you really going to handle company business?” she asked, somewhat skeptical.
“Of course, there’s an important contract that needs my signature immediately. I received a call from my secretary on the way here. It’ll be resolved soon, don’t worry. I’ll be back to take you home as quickly as possible,” Lu Yucheng assured her confidently.
Watching him leave, Huo-Jie couldn’t help but express her envy, “Qinghuan, it seems you’ve truly found a rare gem of a man. Not only does he choose to trust you without hesitation, but he’s also gentle with you, without a hint of resentment. You’re really lucky.”
“Yes, Yucheng is indeed a good husband.” Mo Qinghuan had never doubted this, but she still felt his gaze was strange as he left. Was that really the look of someone going to handle business? How could she explain the hint of hatred in his eyes?
Noticing Mo Qinghuan’s unease, Huo-Jie teased, “Oh dear, already missing him after just parting? Haha, newlyweds are always so sweet and loving.”
Joking aside, with a mysterious figure lurking in the shadows, potentially threatening Mo Qinghuan at any moment, Huo-Jie had to be thoroughly prepared to ensure Mo Qinghuan’s safety.
However, Mo Qinghuan’s concerns proved valid. Lu Yucheng’s excuse about signing documents was far from simple. He drove not towards the Lu company but towards Lu Xuan’s company.
Despite Lu Xuan’s talent for acting, which earned him several major projects from Father Lu, his company’s scale was still modest. Striding in, Lu Yucheng was promptly stopped by the receptionist, who asked, “Sir, who are you? Do you have an appointment?”
