The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 257 - Solving It Myself
Seeking Lu Yucheng’s help? It seemed like the best option so far, but doing so would undoubtedly worsen the already strained relationship between Lu Xuan and Lu Yucheng. Moreover, Mo Qinghuan had heard Lu Xuan mention that the Lu family company was facing some troubles recently. She didn’t want to add to Yucheng’s worries, so she shook her head and refused, “Huo-Jie, I want to handle this myself. If you don’t want to make my situation more difficult, please don’t tell Yucheng about this.”
“But Qinghuan, the penalty is astronomical. How can you possibly afford it?” Huo-Jie wished she could turn back time and not have lured Mo Qinghuan into taking this role for the sake of a lucrative offer. Perhaps then none of this would have happened.
“Enough, Huo-Jie. I’ve made my decision. It’s getting late; let’s go home and rest.” She needed some quiet time to think about how to handle the triple penalty.
Huo-Jie wanted to say more, but Liang Yi stopped her. He shook his head and reminded her, “Huo-Jie, I think the person most troubled right now is Qinghuan-Jie. Let’s not make it harder for her, okay?”
Watching Mo Qinghuan’s silhouette as she left in the elevator, Liang Yi’s eyes were filled with concern. If he had the money, he would have given it to her without hesitation to help her out of this predicament. However, he was just a fledgling singer and couldn’t offer much assistance.
“Liang Yi, but we can’t afford this penalty loophole unless we sell the entire company,” Huo-Jie said, stomping her feet in frustration. Even though Mo Qinghuan hadn’t blamed her, Huo-Jie knew her negligence was the root cause of the problem.
“I’ll also think of ways to help Qinghuan-Jie. Don’t worry too much, Huo-Jie,” Liang Yi reassured her.
When Mo Qinghuan returned to the Lu family home, it was already late. She lay exhausted on the sofa, too tired to change her clothes or remove her makeup. Without the eyes of outsiders, she felt more at ease, yet the burden of the hefty penalty still weighed on her like a boulder, making it hard to breathe.
Soon, the sound of a car engine came from outside the hall. Mo Qinghuan tried to act as if nothing had happened, getting up with a smile to greet Lu Yucheng as he returned from work.
“You’re back?” Like a dutiful wife, she took his briefcase. Perhaps due to his fatigue, he didn’t immediately notice the unusual look on her face.
Sitting on the sofa, Lu Yucheng rubbed his temples before looking up at Mo Qinghuan. Seeing her oddly dressed, he asked, puzzled, “Didn’t you say there was a party before the filming of your new movie? Did you just get back?”
“Yes, I met some like-minded people and lost track of time,” Mo Qinghuan replied with a forced smile, not wanting Lu Yucheng to discover her predicament.
“Did you have dinner at the party? Is there anything else you’d like to eat? I can make it for you. It’s been a while since I’ve shown off my cooking skills,” Lu Yucheng said, just as unwilling to burden her with his own company troubles.
Burying her head in his chest, Mo Qinghuan closed her eyes and murmured softly, “Your embrace is the nourishment I need most right now, Yucheng. Just hold me a little longer, okay?”
“Qinghuan, are you in some kind of trouble?” Even as a couple, Mo Qinghuan rarely showed vulnerability in front of Lu Yucheng. Yet tonight, her demeanor was unexpectedly different. Lu Yucheng gently pulled her away from his chest, scrutinizing her pale face with concern.
“What trouble could I possibly have? Have you forgotten who I am? I’m Mo Qinghuan, after all. Any problem that comes my way is easily solved. I just suddenly felt like I missed you, Yucheng, truly.” Like a child who has been wronged, if no one asks, the wound remains hidden. But once discovered, it tears open, revealing the hurt.
Mo Qinghuan was desperately putting on her best performance, trying to keep Lu Yucheng from realizing she was lying.
After repeatedly confirming the sincerity in her smiling eyes, Lu Yucheng seemed somewhat reassured, believing she was simply tired and seeking comfort. Wasn’t he the same? Embracing Mo Qinghuan, Lu Yucheng also savored the warmth of her body. Two people, clearly exhausted, yet unwilling to burden each other, leaned on one another, creating a touching and heart-wrenching scene.
Late at night, Shen Meng, who hadn’t appeared publicly in front of cameras for a long time, was now accompanying a table of influential bosses. Her makeup was much heavier than before, and her attire incredibly seductive. As her fair legs rested on a man around sixty years old, she resembled a beguiling enchantress.
She was no longer the awkward and clueless girl from her first drinking session, having fully embraced this as part of her job. Leveraging her past fame as an actress, she earned a handsome income from a night of drinking or sleeping over, more than enough to fund her extravagant lifestyle.
“Boss Shen, have another drink! Don’t you like the wine I poured for you?” She cooed, sipping the wine before feeding it mouth-to-mouth to the old man in front of the other guests.
To an outsider, this scene might seem unsettling, given Shen Meng’s age was enough to be the old man’s granddaughter. Yet she appeared unfazed, boldly kissing him under the influence of alcohol, her seductive demeanor overwhelming him as his hands roamed over her.
Later, someone casually mentioned, “Have you heard that Mo Qinghuan, who married Lu Yucheng, is about to take on a new film? Even after marrying into a wealthy family, she still chooses to work. Do you think it’s because being a rich wife is boring, or what?”
“Surely it’s because marrying into a wealthy family is like entering deep waters. She’s probably hustling to earn a living for herself,” Shen Meng interjected, lighting a cigarette and puffing smoke rings with a mocking tone.
“Right, we forgot Miss Shen used to be best friends with Miss Mo,” someone exclaimed, suddenly realizing and looking at Shen Meng with curiosity. “So, Miss Shen, could you tell us if Miss Mo is as aloof in private as she is in the movies, unapproachable?”
“That’s all an act. Otherwise, how could she snag Lu Yucheng? Mo Qinghuan’s image is just well-packaged by her talent agency. In reality, she’s nothing but a promiscuous woman. She fabricated scandals to frame Mr. Han and cause his divorce when he was no longer useful, and now she’s latched onto Lu Yucheng. Her acting is just too good; men are fooled by her deceitful facade.”
Shen Meng, as always, seized every opportunity at gatherings to badmouth Mo Qinghuan. Since she couldn’t make a comeback, she was determined to ensure Mo Qinghuan’s life wouldn’t be easy either!
“By the way, since it’s a movie, who’s the male lead?”
