The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 254 - The Male Lead Selection
Mo Qinghuan’s words left Lu Yucheng utterly surprised. He asked in disbelief, “Qinghuan, are you saying you made this abalone porridge? You actually went into the kitchen for me?”
For many, a wife cooking for her husband is a common occurrence, but for Lu Yucheng, it was an unexpected delight. Seeing Mo Qinghuan nod in acknowledgment, he tenderly pulled her into his arms, worried she might have hurt herself in the kitchen, which would make him regretful.
Held by Lu Yucheng, Mo Qinghuan murmured, “I’m sorry, Yucheng. I haven’t yet learned how to fulfill my duties as a wife, letting you stay up late while I couldn’t help. This abalone porridge was a first attempt, but if you like it, I can make it for you often. When you work late, I’ll stay by your side, so you won’t be alone and exhausted, okay?”
“The overtime is finally over,” Lu Yucheng eagerly announced. He then swept her up in his arms and strode towards the bedroom, his gentle eyes filled with desire. Mo Qinghuan barely had time to react before Lu Yucheng locked the door and kissed her deeply.
The sudden kiss left Mo Qinghuan momentarily frozen. When she finally caught her breath, she grabbed Lu Yucheng’s wandering hand and asked breathlessly, “You’re done with work? Yucheng, are you serious?”
“Of course, I am. Qinghuan, that abalone porridge gave me a boost. Tonight, I plan to make up for the past few days,” Lu Yucheng replied. He then removed her robe and, after a flurry of kisses and caresses, joined with her eagerly.
Who knows how much time passed? Mo Qinghuan eventually fell into a deep sleep. Watching her in his arms, Lu Yucheng tenderly kissed her forehead. He had known all along that the abalone porridge was her doing. He had gone downstairs for a glass of water and caught sight of her busy figure in the kitchen.
She rarely cooked, carefully chopping vegetables and constantly tasting the porridge until it was just right, finally smiling with satisfaction. She even burned her hand twice, and Lu Yucheng, hiding in the shadows, felt a pang of heartache.
But he knew she meant well, and if he had revealed himself, it would have spoiled her surprise. So he kept his feelings to himself, devouring the porridge she presented with feigned ignorance, only pretending to realize the truth when she revealed it.
All of this was to play along with the surprise Mo Qinghuan had planned. Holding her close, Lu Yucheng whispered, “Qinghuan, thank you. I would wager everything I have just to see you happy. Even if I’m exhausted from work, it’s all worth it.”
Quietly slipping out of bed, Lu Yucheng tried not to make a sound. He had lied about finishing his work just to let her sleep peacefully. With Lu Xuan’s presence, the Lu family faced many challenges, requiring constant vigilance. Rest had become a luxury.
When Mo Qinghuan woke up, Lu Yucheng had already left for the company, which she had anticipated. Thinking about the abalone porridge she made last night and how much Lu Yucheng appreciated it, she decided that after the investor’s event today, she would learn a few more dishes from the maid, aiming to surprise Lu Yucheng with new culinary delights every day.
Xiaoxue and the driver arrived early to pick her up. Dressed in a form-fitting purple gown, she looked both elegant and poised. However, Xiaoxue seemed to have something on her mind, speaking very little during the ride. Mo Qinghuan noticed this and was about to ask when the driver said, “Qinghuan-Jie, we’ve arrived at the hotel. Huo-Jie is waiting for you in the lobby.”
“Got it,” Mo Qinghuan replied, deciding to save her questions for later. With Xiaoxue by her side, she stepped out of the car, only to be immediately surrounded by a swarm of reporters who had caught wind of her arrival. Cameras flashed as they bombarded her with questions:
“Miss Qinghuan, how does it feel to return to acting after your marriage?”
“Do you need Mr. Lu’s approval to take on roles? Is the life of a wealthy wife everything you imagined?”
“The variety show you and Mr. Lu participated in received rave reviews. Are you two as loving in real life as you appear on the show?”
Seeing Mo Qinghuan being swarmed by reporters, Huo-Jie hurried out to intervene, “I’m sorry, everyone. Qinghuan is here for the pre-launch party and won’t be giving any interviews. Please make way. We will inform you of any relevant news at the appropriate time.”
“It’s alright, Huo-Jie.” Since the reporters were interested in her married life, Mo Qinghuan had nothing to hide. Smiling, she replied, “Thank you all for your concern. Our married life is very happy, and what you saw on the variety show is genuine, not staged. Yucheng is a wonderful husband, and I’m very content. As for acting, Yucheng has said he respects my decisions. Thank you.”
After her straightforward yet impactful response, Mo Qinghuan, accompanied by Huo-Jie, took the elevator to the top floor for the party. Despite the reporters’ continued questions, the hotel’s security stopped them from entering, stating that the hotel had been booked by the film’s investors for the night, and no media interviews or photos were allowed.
In the elevator, Huo-Jie and Xiaoxue exchanged a glance, as if they were hiding something from Mo Qinghuan, which made her feel uneasy. Looking at Huo-Jie, she asked directly, “Huo-Jie, what’s going on? Are you and Xiaoxue hiding something from me?”
“Well, Qinghuan, we did just learn something, and we’re trying to figure out how to tell you,” Huo-Jie replied awkwardly, avoiding eye contact with Mo Qinghuan.
Her demeanor made Mo Qinghuan sense the gravity of the situation. After all, they had worked together for many years, and Mo Qinghuan knew Huo-Jie’s character well.
“What is it? You’re making me even more curious. Does it have something to do with the movie?” Mo Qinghuan asked, her mind naturally linking their hesitance to the film.
Huo-Jie glanced at Xiaoxue, ensuring she hadn’t misspoken, then sighed, “It’s like this. I just received notice that the original male lead for this project was Qishao, who’s been very popular lately. But they suddenly changed investors yesterday, and Qishao can’t participate due to illness. The male lead has been replaced by Liang Yi from our company. As for the investors, it’s Mr. Lu’s brother, Lu Xuan.”
Even Huo-Jie found this coincidence hard to believe. During previous investigations, no such information had been leaked, suggesting it was deliberately concealed.
“Why wasn’t I informed about this sooner?” Mo Qinghuan’s intuition proved correct-the film was not as straightforward as it seemed. The deliberate secrecy surrounding the male lead and investor’s identity until now was likely a calculated move to keep her in the dark until she signed the contract.
