The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 248 - Downhearted
“Indeed, the order was given by me, and it seems it has reached your ears,” Father Lu scoffed. After all, his intent was to show his dominance to Lu Yucheng; knowing sooner rather than later was far better.
Father Lu finally admitted it, but for Lu Yucheng, it was akin to confirming the worst news. He clenched his teeth, trying his best not to reveal his anger, and continued to question:
“Father, surely you haven’t really become senile, right? It’s true that Lu Xuan is your son, but the company he runs isn’t part of the Lu family. It’s even in competition with us. How could you simply hand over these major projects to him without considering the losses it would cause to our company?”
In fact, these projects were the result of Lu Yucheng’s painstaking efforts. He had already invested a considerable amount of money in the early stages. Just as the projects were about to begin, and the initial investments and subsequent profits were expected to gradually flow into the Lu family’s accounts, Father Lu unexpectedly interfered, causing not only the anticipated income to vanish but also the initial investments to be lost.
Despite Father Lu’s delight over Lu Xuan’s return, he shouldn’t be joking with the company that he had struggled to build for most of his life.
However, upon hearing Lu Yucheng’s questions, Father Lu coldly snorted over the phone:
“To me, Lu Xuan is my son. There is no competition between father and son. Besides, he left home early and built his company from scratch, unlike you who took over my position without breaking a sweat. Besides, I’ve already retired. The future of the Lu family company is in the hands of you, the new Chairman. Even if it goes bankrupt one day, I won’t feel sorry.”
Lu Yucheng knew Father Lu was a man of his word, especially since he had been the previous Chairman of the Lu family. Having only recently taken over, some senior managers still doubted his capabilities, naturally siding with Father Lu. Now, any decision he made seemed almost impossible to overturn.
Realizing this, Lu Yucheng, frustrated, reminded Father Lu again, “Father, have you forgotten how much effort you once put into the company? It’s like your third son, also of your blood. Can you really bear to sacrifice it for Lu Xuan?”
Who knows what kind of enchantments Lu Xuan had fed Father Lu this time, to make him so easily sacrifice the Lu family company, which he once held as dear as life itself? Father Lu might be willing, but Lu Yucheng couldn’t bear it. It wasn’t for the money or status, but because even before inheriting the Lu family, he had secretly vowed to become a leader as excellent as Father Lu, leading the employees of the Lu family towards a better life.
“Alright then, Yucheng, since you’ve said so much, I’ll give you a chance,” Father Lu’s tone suddenly became magnanimous. Lu Yucheng quickly regained his seriousness, although he didn’t know what conditions Father Lu would propose. As long as he could continue to protect the Lu family company, Lu Yucheng was willing to do anything.
However, the words that Father Lu spoke next froze Yucheng in place. Over the phone, Father Lu’s tone was no longer commanding but dismissively casual, continuing, “As long as you are willing to apologize to Lu Xuan and admit that punching him at the front door was rude, I might consider taking back two projects.”
Father Lu’s implication was clear: if Lu Yucheng apologized to Lu Xuan, he would retrieve some of the projects as a fair split between the brothers.
But Lu Yucheng refused to agree. He believed he had already made it clear in the Lu family hall that he was not at fault; it was Lu Xuan who provoked him first, and he merely did what any man would do. Where was the mistake in that?
So, he continued to argue, “Father, I am also your son. Why is it that every time I made a mistake since childhood, you would punish me without hesitation, never thinking that Lu Xuan should also be responsible? We are both your flesh and blood; how can you be so biased?”
“Well, there’s nothing more to say then, Lu Yucheng. Here’s a piece of advice, if you still refuse to apologize, the Lu family’s future projects will continue to be handed over to Lu Xuan’s company, hmph!”
Father Lu finished speaking and coldly hung up the phone, refusing to listen to any explanations. Lu Yucheng, infuriated, smashed his phone on the ground. For the sake of harmony in the Lu family, he had endured time and again, but Father Lu and Lu Xuan repeatedly crossed his bottom line. He clenched his fists, angrily smashing all the documents, the computer, everything on the table.
Upon hearing the loud noise, the secretary hurried into the office, narrowly avoiding being hit by a computer keyboard thrown by Lu Yucheng, his quick reflexes saving him from a hospital emergency.
But seeing Lu Yucheng so furiously angry, the secretary instinctively asked, “Mr. Lu, the materials for the senior management meeting are ready. Should we postpone the meeting?”
“What meeting? The projects we were going to discuss have been snatched away. A meeting? Are we just going to sit around staring at each other?” The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the implementation of those projects, but now that they had been intercepted by Lu Xuan, there was obviously no need to continue.
Understanding the situation, the secretary discreetly left, and in the chaotic aftermath in the office, Lu Yucheng lit a cigarette, looking out the window at the slowly fading sunset, sighing helplessly.
When he got home, Lu Yucheng still couldn’t lift his spirits, even in the presence of the adorable Little Bun, he just managed a perfunctory smile. Mo Qinghuan, noticing his poor mood, brought over a plate of fruit and sat next to him, saying to Little Bun, who was still clinging to Lu Yucheng, “Little Bun, big brother is too tired, rest a bit and then he’ll play with you, okay? Can you go and play by yourself for now?”
“Okay,” Little Bun obediently agreed.
Watching his youthful figure playing with toys, Mo Qinghuan handed a piece of kiwi to Lu Yucheng, saying, “Kiwi is rich in vitamins, it’s good for your health.”
“Thank you, Qinghuan, but I’m not really in the mood to eat,” he declined the fruit. Even though Lu Yucheng tried to maintain a smile, the helplessness and exhaustion in it were all too clear to Mo Qinghuan.
She was smart enough to know that something must have happened at the company to worry him, so she continued, “Perhaps if I asked why you’re upset, you wouldn’t want to tell me, right?”
Lu Yucheng, occasionally showing his masculinity, believed some burdens should be borne by men alone; complaining to a woman would be a blow to his dignity. Understanding this, Mo Qinghuan decided not to pry further to avoid putting more pressure on him.
Seeing such an intelligent and perceptive wife by his side, Lu Yucheng felt a bit consoled. He forced a smile and replied, “As long as you are by my side, no matter how difficult things get, I will find a way to solve them. Don’t worry, Qinghuan.”
