The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 245 - Subtle Probing
Lu Xuan’s considerate words seemed to be the kind that every woman loves to hear, and Huo-Jie was swooning on the side. However, Mo Qinghuan, having seen enough of such things in Showbiz, naturally wouldn’t take it seriously.
She accepted the bouquet, inadvertently brushing against Lu Xuan’s fingers. He immediately withdrew them with tact, pretending as if nothing had happened, as if he didn’t want to embarrass her.
Mo Qinghuan felt this man could see right through a woman’s heart. Out of politeness, she handed the bouquet to Huo-Jie and said to Lu Xuan, “I’m sorry for the trouble, big brother. Since Yucheng never mentioned you to me, we didn’t invite you to the wedding. I hope you won’t be upset.”
“No worries, I figured Yucheng wouldn’t treat me as a big brother with his childish temper,” Lu Xuan replied with an awkward smile, looking as if he had more to say but held back.
Huo-Jie’s phone rang, and she dashed out to take the call, seemingly from Lu Yucheng. With her gone, the ward was left with just Mo Qinghuan and Lu Xuan. Although Lu Xuan was Lu Yucheng’s brother, he was still a stranger to Mo Qinghuan, making the atmosphere somewhat awkward.
Lu Xuan sensed this and smiled as he placed the fruit basket aside, peeling a banana for her. “I hope you recover soon and can leave the hospital. I won’t disturb your rest any longer; I’ll take my leave.”
“Take care, big brother,” Mo Qinghuan said, her head still dizzy, unable to get out of bed to see him off. Fortunately, Lu Xuan seemed easygoing, gracefully leaving the ward.
After he left, Mo Qinghuan’s gaze fell on the roses, which symbolized love. It seemed unusual for someone to bring such flowers when visiting a patient. Was Lu Xuan genuinely ignorant, or was it intentional?
When Huo-Jie returned to the ward and found Lu Xuan gone, she seemed a bit disappointed. Mo Qinghuan noticed her feelings and asked with a laugh, “Was that call from Yucheng? Has he finished the meeting?”
Since the car crash, Mo Qinghuan’s phone had been broken, so Lu Yucheng could only reach her through Huo-Jie’s phone.
Huo-Jie nodded in response, “Yes, it was Mr. Lu. But it’s strange; as soon as I mentioned Mr. Lu’s brother came to see you, he went silent on the phone. These brothers are really odd. Last night at the emergency room, Mr. Lu grabbed Mr. Lu’s brother by the collar, and they almost got into a fight. It scared Xiaoxue and me.”
“Are you saying they don’t get along?” Mo Qinghuan had already guessed this. As the only brother, Lu Yucheng didn’t even plan to invite him to the wedding and never mentioned his existence to her. These alone indicated that Lu Xuan was someone Lu Yucheng preferred not to talk about. Why was that? She would have to ask Lu Yucheng when she got the chance.
While they were talking, Lu Yucheng suddenly burst into the ward, panting as if he had run all the way. Seeing Mo Qinghuan sitting up, he approached and embraced her tightly, murmuring tenderly, “Thank goodness, Qinghuan, you’re finally awake. Do you know how worried I was last night?”
“I’m sorry, Yucheng. I almost thought I’d never see you again,” Mo Qinghuan replied. In the moment of the car crash, the first person she thought of was Lu Yucheng. If she had died, what would he do? Fortunately, fate was kind, giving her a chance to survive.
Seeing the couple’s affectionate display, Huo-Jie felt like a third wheel and quickly found an excuse to leave the ward to avoid witnessing more of their lovey-dovey moments.
After holding her for a while, Lu Yucheng noticed Lu Xuan was nowhere to be seen. Out of curiosity, he asked, “Where’s Lu Xuan? Did he come to see you?”
“Speaking of which, Yucheng, why have you never mentioned you have a brother?” Mo Qinghuan asked, wanting to understand the situation. A car crash unexpectedly revealed Lu Yucheng had a brother? Such a bizarre discovery left her puzzled.
But when it came to Lu Xuan, Lu Yucheng was tight-lipped. He replied evasively, “He’s just someone insignificant. I’ll explain everything once you’re out of the hospital. Did he say anything to you?”
“Not much, just brought flowers and some fruit,” Mo Qinghuan said, pointing to the banana Lu Xuan had peeled. Without a word, Lu Yucheng picked it up and tossed it into the trash, leaving Mo Qinghuan speechless. Clearly, there was an undisclosed secret between these brothers.
Holding her gently, Lu Yucheng warned cautiously, “Qinghuan, Lu Xuan isn’t as simple as he seems. Promise me you won’t have any contact with him, so I won’t have to worry, okay?”
On the way to the hospital, Lu Yucheng had received a call from his secretary, confirming that last night’s car crash wasn’t an accident but a deliberate act. However, the culprit’s identity remained elusive, though Lu Yucheng had already formed a suspicion-it had to be Lu Xuan!
Although Mo Qinghuan didn’t understand why Lu Yucheng said this, she nodded to reassure him.
Later, she remembered missing the Mid-Autumn Festival dinner at the Lu family with Father Lu and Mother Lu due to the car crash. She quickly asked, “By the way, Yucheng, were your parents upset last night?”
After all, it was her first Mid-Autumn Festival as a daughter-in-law, and she was late. Even though it was due to the car crash, the elders might still be displeased.
“No, they were worried about you after hearing about the car crash,” Lu Yucheng replied. However, his evasive gaze revealed traces of deception that Mo Qinghuan immediately sensed.
It seemed Father Lu was indeed upset. He had never approved of her, and being late to the family dinner didn’t help. But Mo Qinghuan wasn’t one to dwell on such matters. Knowing she was at fault, she planned to visit and apologize soon.
Unaware of Mo Qinghuan’s thoughts, Lu Yucheng was preoccupied with the issue of Lu Xuan. Last night, he had called Mother Lu, informing her of Lu Xuan’s visit. Although Mother Lu wasn’t Lu Xuan’s biological mother, she was fond of her stepson, and her words conveyed joy and excitement.
However, Lu Yucheng felt Lu Xuan’s return wasn’t a good thing. With a furrowed brow, he decided to have a few people keep an eye on Lu Xuan’s movements. If he tried to harm Mo Qinghuan again, Lu Yucheng feared he might not be able to stop himself from taking drastic measures against Lu Xuan.
After enduring three days in the hospital, Mo Qinghuan was finally discharged. On the day she left, Lu Yucheng had planned for Huo-Jie to accompany her home to rest, but she sent Huo-Jie away and went shopping for gifts, driving alone to the Lu family.
In the living room, Father Lu greeted Mo Qinghuan’s apology with a cold stare, mocking, “No need for apologies. After all, you can use the car crash as an excuse for your tardiness. Even if I’m an old relic, I can’t keep holding a grudge, can I?”
“Qinghuan just recovered and came to see us. We should be concerned, not holding grudges,” Mother Lu interjected, handing Mo Qinghuan a cup of hot tea, deliberately speaking up for her to ease Father Lu’s misunderstanding.
