The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 244 - Lu Xuan's Suspicion
Those words, dripping with provocation, indeed ignited Lu Yucheng’s fury.
He grabbed Lu Xuan by the collar, roaring a warning, “Lu Xuan, if you dare to lay a finger on Qinghuan, I swear you’ll regret it.”
“My dear brother, I’m your own flesh and blood. Is it really worth speaking to me like this over a woman?” Lu Xuan feigned innocence, ignoring Lu Yucheng’s warning.
Huo-Jie and Xiaoxue quickly intervened to defuse the situation. Huo-Jie whispered to Lu Yucheng, “Mr. Lu, news of Qinghuan’s car crash has spread. Reporters are likely swarming the hospital as we speak. It’s best to stay calm to avoid making things worse.”
“Let go of me!” Lu Yucheng pushed Huo-Jie aside. Xiaoxue, timid by nature, scurried behind Huo-Jie without needing any threats from Lu Xuan. Lu Yucheng glared at Lu Xuan, gritting his teeth, “You left on your own accord back then. No one from the Lu family forced you out. Now you suddenly return from abroad claiming it’s for a reunion? Isn’t that a bit laughable?”
Back in the day, Lu Xuan would constantly find ways to bully Lu Yucheng, setting traps and blaming him for mistakes, leading to frequent scoldings from Father Lu. Such a devious person couldn’t possibly have changed after a few years abroad, Lu Yucheng thought. Perhaps this car crash wasn’t an accident at all, but orchestrated?
Seeing through Lu Yucheng’s suspicion, Lu Xuan’s handsome face showed no fear. He maintained his smile, glanced at the now dimmed light of the operating room, and shrugged, “Looks like Cinderella’s surgery is over. I won’t intrude any longer. I’ll visit my charming sister-in-law another time.”
Without a word of explanation, and dismissing Lu Yucheng’s warning, Lu Xuan turned and left the hospital, his demeanor carefree and sinister.
Lu Yucheng wanted to stop him, to get answers, but Mo Qinghuan was wheeled out of surgery just then. His concern for his wife took precedence, and he decided to confront Lu Xuan another time.
Fresh out of surgery, Mo Qinghuan looked frail and pale. The doctor informed Lu Yucheng and Huo-Jie, “Fortunately, she was brought in quickly. There’s no threat to her life, but she lost a lot of blood. She’ll need to stay for observation for a few days before she can go home to rest.”
It was a relief amidst misfortune. Huo-Jie repeatedly thanked the doctor, while Lu Yucheng stayed by Mo Qinghuan’s side in the ward, holding her hand. Recalling the moment he learned of her car crash, Lu Yucheng felt as if his heart had stopped. Thankfully, she was safe. Otherwise, he would have made sure the truck driver paid dearly.
“Mr. Lu, there are still many reporters at the hospital entrance. You should stay with Qinghuan in the ward. I’ll handle the media,” Huo-Jie suggested, wanting to give Lu Yucheng and Mo Qinghuan some private time. As a devoted husband, Lu Yucheng was undoubtedly the most affected by her accident.
Nodding in agreement, Lu Yucheng accepted Huo-Jie’s proposal. He wanted the ward to remain peaceful for Mo Qinghuan’s recovery. Huo-Jie, with her chatter, would only disrupt that tranquility.
Watching the sleeping Mo Qinghuan, Lu Yucheng couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off about the car crash. If it had been anyone else who brought her to the hospital, it might have been different. But why was it Lu Xuan, of all people? His sudden appearance at the crash site after years of absence seemed too coincidental.
Dialing his secretary, Lu Yucheng coldly instructed, “Find out the truth behind the car crash as soon as possible. Whether it was an accident or deliberate, bring me the evidence.”
He clenched his fist. If Lu Xuan was involved, he wouldn’t hesitate to send him to prison, brother or not.
The next day, Mo Qinghuan awoke, though the aftermath of the crash left her with a throbbing headache. With Huo-Jie’s help, she sat up, noticing Lu Yucheng’s absence. She asked, “Huo-Jie, does Yucheng not know about my car crash?”
“How could he not? The whole world knows you had a car crash after the award ceremony. Mr. Lu rushed here immediately last night and stayed by your side all night. He only left half an hour ago because the Lu family has an important meeting today, and as the head, he couldn’t miss it. So he asked me to take care of you for now.”
Huo-Jie explained, surprised at how attentive Lu Yucheng was as a husband. Despite his wealth, he was meticulous in caring for Mo Qinghuan. His furious demeanor last night was still fresh in Huo-Jie’s mind.
Suddenly recalling something, Huo-Jie mentioned, “Oh, Qinghuan, do you know who brought you to the hospital yesterday?”
A good Samaritan? Mo Qinghuan frowned, unable to remember anything from the crash, as it happened so quickly. She shook her head, indicating she didn’t know.
Huo-Jie, eager to share, continued, “It was Lu Yucheng’s brother, Lu Xuan! Not many people know about him. I only found out after looking it up online last night. Lu Xuan and Mr. Lu are half-brothers. Lu Xuan left home at a young age, and this is his first time back in years. Isn’t it quite the coincidence that he saved you?”
“You’re saying Yucheng has a brother?” Mo Qinghuan was surprised, as Lu Yucheng had never mentioned it. But now, hearing it from Huo-Jie, it did seem quite coincidental.
Before Huo-Jie could respond, a pleasant male voice came from the ward entrance, “Since Yucheng hasn’t told you about the past, perhaps I, as his brother, should.”
“Mr. Lu?” Huo-Jie’s eyes lit up. Ever since witnessing Lu Xuan’s charming smile last night, she seemed enchanted. It was a common reaction among women of a certain age upon meeting him.
Mo Qinghuan frowned, observing Lu Xuan approach with flowers and a fruit basket. His resemblance to Lu Yucheng was unmistakable. Though she had never heard of this brother, he was her savior. She sat up straight and expressed her gratitude, “Huo-Jie just told me you were the one who saved me. If it weren’t for you, I might not be here. I planned to thank you in person. I can’t express how grateful I am. Thank you.”
“No need to be so formal,” Lu Xuan replied, handing her the flowers. “We’re family, after all. Helping each other is only natural. I had someone pick these flowers for you. I hope you like them. If not, I’ll bring something else next time.”
