The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 243 - The Car Crash
On the way back, Mo Qinghuan found herself stuck in heavy traffic due to the rush hour. The car she was in could only inch forward slowly. As the clock ticked towards seven, she grew anxious and instructed the driver to take a shortcut. Though the route was a bit secluded, it promised to save a lot of time if it wasn’t blocked.
The driver navigated through the side streets, and just as Mo Qinghuan began to relax, their car suddenly collided head-on with a large truck at a turn. The nanny van flipped over, and Mo Qinghuan felt her world spin wildly. Warm liquid trickled down from her head, and she lost consciousness. The driver was also knocked out cold.
They were later rushed to the hospital by a kind passerby. In the emergency room, Mo Qinghuan lay on the operating table, her delicate face covered in blood, looking frail and vulnerable.
Meanwhile, Lu Yucheng and Little Bun were anxiously waiting for Mo Qinghuan. It was already past eight in the evening, and her phone was unreachable, with no sign of her. Lu Yucheng couldn’t help but worry.
Little Bun seemed to sense Lu Yucheng’s unease. He had never been warmly welcomed by Father Lu, who didn’t see him as his real grandson but rather as a child Lu Yucheng had whimsically adopted. Fortunately, Mother Lu was kind to Little Bun, but even so, the little guy eagerly awaited Mo Qinghuan’s arrival.
The little fellow approached Lu Yucheng, holding his hand. The soft, innocent touch brought Lu Yucheng some comfort. “Brother, why isn’t Sister here yet?”
“Be good, Little Bun. Brother believes Sister is on her way. Why don’t you go play with Grandma for a bit? Sister will be here soon, okay?” Lu Yucheng gently patted Little Bun’s head, trying to be as patient as possible.
Mother Lu also stepped forward, placing a hand on Little Bun’s shoulder with a kind smile. “Grandma likes Little Bun very much. How about you play with Grandma for a while?”
“Little Bun likes Grandma too,” the little one replied in his sweet, childish voice. Despite his young age, he had a knack for charming others beyond his peers.
Mother Lu was delighted by his words, but noticing Lu Yucheng’s worry, she quietly suggested, “Yucheng, Qinghuan has only been here once before. Could she have gotten lost? Why don’t you drive out to look for her?”
“Alright, Mom. I was thinking the same thing.” Unable to reach Mo Qinghuan all evening had left Lu Yucheng restless. With Mother Lu’s support, he grabbed his car keys and prepared to leave.
But before he could step out of the hall, a voice came from the second floor, accompanied by the sound of a cane tapping the floor. “Why would a big star, basking in glory on stage, care about our family dinner? There’s no need to fetch her. She’s a grown woman; how could she get lost? It’s just a matter of whether she wants to come or not.”
Father Lu’s words implied that Mo Qinghuan had prioritized her career over their family gathering. Both Lu Yucheng and Mother Lu knew that wasn’t the case. Especially Lu Yucheng, who knew Mo Qinghuan was a woman of her word. Just that morning, they had been discussing what gifts to bring Father Lu and Mother Lu for the Mid-Autumn Festival. A woman so filial wouldn’t break a promise for fame.
“Father, Qinghuan is not like that. Maybe Mom is right, and she’s just lost nearby. I’ll go look for her now.” With that, Lu Yucheng dashed out the door.
Father Lu watched Lu Yucheng’s anxious departure with eyes and lips full of sarcasm. He had only recently begun to change his opinion of Mo Qinghuan, but tonight, her absence from the dinner made her seem unreliable.
Mother Lu sighed with regret. Mo Qinghuan had been so close to winning Father Lu over completely, but who could have predicted she’d be late for the family dinner for unknown reasons?
As Lu Yucheng started the car, he received a call from Huo-Jie. Her voice was choked with sobs as she stammered out the news of Mo Qinghuan’s car crash.
It was like a bolt from the blue. Lu Yucheng hurriedly drove to the hospital. Outside the emergency room, Mo Qinghuan was still in surgery, her condition uncertain. Huo-Jie and Xiaoxue were in tears, and Lu Yucheng angrily demanded, “What happened? How could there be a car crash? Where’s the driver? How was he driving?”
“Mr. Lu, we only rushed here after getting the call from the hospital. The driver is also unconscious. I really don’t know what happened,” Huo-Jie replied, feeling wronged. She was already on the verge of breaking down after hearing about Mo Qinghuan’s accident, and Lu Yucheng’s accusations only added to her guilt.
Xiaoxue and Huo-Jie clung to each other outside the emergency room, their eyes fixed on the door, hoping a doctor or nurse would come out and update them on Mo Qinghuan’s condition.
As Lu Yucheng was filled with regret for not personally picking her up from the award ceremony, a familiar yet unfamiliar voice sounded behind him. “I think you should ask me about the car crash. You’ll get a clearer picture.”
Turning around, Lu Yucheng saw a face he despised most in this world. The similar facial features, the strikingly handsome appearance, and the cold, mocking smile. He couldn’t believe they were meeting again in a hospital. He had left home years ago and had been unheard of since.
Seemingly oblivious to Lu Yucheng’s change in expression, Huo-Jie regained her composure and said, “Mr. Lu, this is the kind person who brought Qinghuan to the hospital. I was in such a rush earlier that I forgot to ask for his name.”
After speaking, Huo-Jie looked at the man, who was just as handsome as Lu Yucheng, with a puzzled expression. She vaguely felt that their features were somewhat similar. Was it just her imagination?
“Kind person is a bit of a stretch. A man who appreciates beauty, however, is right here,” the man said with a charming yet mischievous smile, which made Lu Yucheng clench his fists in anger. Then he introduced himself, “My surname is Lu, and my given name is Xuan. It’s been a while, my brother.”
Huo-Jie and Xiaoxue were shocked, covering their mouths in disbelief. Lu Xuan affectionately patted Lu Yucheng’s shoulder and called him brother. Could this be the eldest son of the Lu family?
Unlike Lu Xuan’s apparent joy, Lu Yucheng knew his character well and was certain he wouldn’t have brought Mo Qinghuan to the hospital out of goodwill, especially since the world knew they were married. He coldly brushed off Lu Xuan’s hand, glaring at him, and demanded, “Don’t tell me this is just a coincidence. Lu Xuan, weren’t you abroad? What’s your purpose in suddenly coming back?”
“My dear brother, my purpose is, of course, a family reunion,” Lu Xuan replied with a smile, unfazed by Lu Yucheng’s anger. Then he deliberately leaned closer to Lu Yucheng’s ear and whispered something that made Lu Yucheng’s blood boil:
“And I forgot to mention, a lovely woman like Mo Qinghuan, how many in this world wouldn’t be smitten? Naturally, I’m no exception. The saying ‘heroes fall for beauties’ exists for a reason, doesn’t it?”
