The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 241 - Award Presenter
Having lived together for over thirty years, Mother Lu was certain she wasn’t mistaken. Father Lu wouldn’t directly ask them to stay, but his subtle reminder to Mo Qinghuan to fulfill her promise was already a significant gesture.
However, Lu Yucheng was skeptical about Father Lu’s sudden change of heart. After all, once Father Lu made up his mind, no one could sway him. Why would this time be any different?
Seeing Lu Yucheng’s concern, Mo Qinghuan gently tugged him along as they headed upstairs. “I’ll explain everything once we’re back in the room. For now, let’s put the idea of packing on hold. Let me first seize the olive branch your father has extended.”
Thankfully, the matter was resolved peacefully in the end. Lu Yucheng, with Mo Qinghuan’s intervention, decided to stay for the time being. Outside the hall, Mother Lu clasped her hands in prayer, murmuring, “Heavens, please let that stubborn old man change his mind soon. Qinghuan is a wonderful daughter-in-law, and I trust my son’s judgment.”
Inside the room, Mo Qinghuan candidly shared with Lu Yucheng the promise she made to Father Lu. He listened in disbelief, gripping her shoulders, unsure whether to laugh or cry.
“Qinghuan, do you realize that neither I nor the company veterans have ever dared speak so boldly to Father? I think I’m beginning to understand why he might change. Perhaps his lifelong authority was challenged, especially by a woman he had prejudices against. That’s likely why his perception of you shifted.”
Father Lu had always been the revered figure in the Lu family, but Mo Qinghuan treated him as an ordinary father. While Father Lu might not openly show surprise, he might be intrigued by the unique perspective Mo Qinghuan offered.
Hearing Lu Yucheng’s words, Mo Qinghuan’s lips curled into a sly, beautiful smile. “A person who never admits defeat will gradually become interested in someone who dares to challenge them, especially if that someone is a woman. It seems I made the right move.”
“So, this was all part of your plan?” Lu Yucheng was astonished. Little did he know, Mo Qinghuan had sensed Father Lu’s disdain and dislike from their first meeting. Having weathered life’s storms, she wouldn’t back down easily. She chose to confront Father Lu in hopes of changing his view, and she succeeded against the odds.
Unable to resist, Lu Yucheng pulled her into his arms, expressing his admiration. “How many surprises will you give me before you stop? Thank you, Qinghuan, and I’m truly sorry. If I could have convinced Father to accept you, you wouldn’t have had to face this alone. I promise to support you in helping Father accept you.”
As they embraced, neither realized Mother Lu was outside, listening to their conversation. She returned to her room, smugly telling Father Lu, “See, I told you Qinghuan is clever and wise. And since our son loves her, old man, you should stop making things difficult for her. Otherwise, Yucheng won’t be happy.”
“What do you know, woman?” Father Lu was irritated by Mother Lu’s chatter. He set his book aside with a cold snort. “Becoming a daughter-in-law of the Lu family requires more than clever tricks. Let’s see how they perform in the future.”
Though he hadn’t fully accepted Mo Qinghuan, Father Lu had given her a chance to prove herself. Over the next two days, he didn’t deliberately make things difficult for her. The family got along harmoniously, especially Mother Lu and Mo Qinghuan, who grew closer with each interaction, treating her like a daughter.
Three days later, as Lu Yucheng held Mo Qinghuan’s hand in the car, they felt they had achieved something significant. Father Lu’s perception of Mo Qinghuan had improved, and if things continued positively, her qualities would soon be recognized by Father Lu.
“Qinghuan, Mother hopes we can return for the Mid-Autumn Festival to celebrate together. What do you think?” Lu Yucheng recalled Mo Qinghuan mentioning an awards ceremony on the festival day, where she would be a presenter.
Sensing his dilemma, Mo Qinghuan smiled and replied, “The awards ceremony is in the afternoon. After presenting, I’ll have Huo-Jie take me back early so we can celebrate with your parents.”
Reassured by her response, Lu Yucheng felt relieved. They drove back to the Lu family home, where Little Bun eagerly ran to Mo Qinghuan, his face full of longing.
“The maid said you went to see Grandpa and Grandma. I missed you so much. Can I go with you next time? I don’t want to be apart from you.”
The little one was indeed troubled. Despite his reluctance to meet Father and Mother Lu, he pleaded to be with Lu Yucheng and Mo Qinghuan.
Mo Qinghuan glanced at Lu Yucheng, who nodded. She hugged the little one, soothing him. “Little Bun, I promise to take you next time. I won’t leave you at home again. It was my fault this time. Can you forgive me?”
“Okay, Little Bun isn’t mad at you anymore.” Fortunately, the little one was mature for his age. His small hand patted Mo Qinghuan’s back, offering comfort.
Lu Yucheng watched with amusement. The roles seemed reversed, but it didn’t matter. As long as the family was happy, the minor details could be overlooked.
The Mid-Autumn Festival arrived, and backstage at the awards ceremony, the makeup artist was busy with Mo Qinghuan. She wore a pale purple gown, looking elegant and poised. Occasionally, she overheard gossip about Shen Meng’s frequent partying, but she ignored it, silently pondering. If she hadn’t met Lu Yucheng, would she have succumbed to the chaos of Showbiz?
Her thoughts were interrupted by Huo-Jie’s arrival. “Qinghuan, guess who I brought?”
Following Huo-Jie’s gesture, Mo Qinghuan turned to see a smiling young man. She signaled the makeup artist to take a break, then approached him with a smile. “Liang Yi? It’s been a while. You’re appearing on TV more often now. I heard you’re sweeping multiple awards for singing and dancing at this ceremony?”
It had been some time since she last saw Liang Yi. After returning from the U.S., Huo-Jie mentioned Liang Yi had also come back, but he secluded himself, working tirelessly on his new album. Mo Qinghuan decided not to disturb him during his intense preparation.
