The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 240 - Packing Up
Lu Yucheng didn’t give Mo Qinghuan a chance to explain the whole time; she could almost hear the desperation in his heartbeat.
Dragging her to the shore, Lu Yucheng’s clothes were already soaked, but he ignored the cold, crouching in front of her and speaking with authority, “Winning my father’s approval isn’t important. What’s important is that we love each other, Qinghuan. I can’t lose you. Promise me you won’t give up your life because of what others say, okay?”
“Yucheng, can you listen to me first?” Feeling Lu Yucheng’s shivering, Mo Qinghuan cupped his face with her hands, her lips curling into a gentle smile. “Do you really think I’m the kind of woman who would seek death over a trivial matter? I was just enjoying the clear water, soaking my feet, not contemplating suicide, truly.”
Looking into Mo Qinghuan’s eyes, Lu Yucheng finally believed she wasn’t lying. As if relieved, he sat beside her, the anxiety from before still fresh in his memory. He sighed, “Next time, even if you want to soak your feet, don’t come here. You really scared me.”
Wiping the sweat from Lu Yucheng’s face, Mo Qinghuan asked curiously, “But how did you find me here?” She distinctly remembered him sleeping soundly upstairs, which is why she didn’t disturb him and went downstairs alone.
“I heard what Father said to you in the hall.” Lu Yucheng regretted not being there to shield her from Father Lu’s harsh words.
“I see.” Mo Qinghuan seemed relaxed, leaning back on the grass, squinting in the sunlight. “So you argued with your father in a fit of anger and rushed out to find me without even putting on a coat?”
Lu Yucheng’s concern for her feelings brought Mo Qinghuan some comfort. No matter how Father Lu made things difficult for her, she could still find solace in Lu Yucheng’s gentle care.
Seeing Mo Qinghuan’s nonchalant demeanor, with no trace of anger in her words, Lu Yucheng was puzzled. He turned her shoulders to make her meet his gaze, saying:
“I’m the one who insisted on bringing you here, the one who slept in and let Father have the chance to hurt you. Qinghuan, if you feel wronged, you can hit me, scold me, anything, as long as you don’t leave me. I’ll agree to anything, okay?”
“Have you forgotten the vows at our wedding? No matter how tough things get, we encourage each other and never abandon each other. You’re the husband I’ve chosen; why would I leave you over something so trivial?”
From Lu Yucheng’s eyes, she could sense his panic and conflict. Mo Qinghuan smiled softly and continued, “Besides, Uncle Lu’s words, if you think about them, show he cares about you. Who wouldn’t want such an outstanding son to marry a woman of equal standing? And I, with my humble background and years in Showbiz, it’s understandable that Uncle Lu would have misconceptions.”
Indeed, when she left the villa, Mo Qinghuan was furious. Though she hid it well in front of Father Lu and Mother Lu, she knew how much those taunting words hurt her pride. But that anger faded when Lu Yucheng arrived. With a man who cared so much for her by her side, no challenge seemed insurmountable.
“You’re meant to spend your life with me, not them. As long as I find you remarkable and excellent, what others say doesn’t matter.” Lu Yucheng reaffirmed his love for her.
Then he took her hand and headed back to the villa without hesitation. Father Lu was still calmly sipping tea in the hall, while Mother Lu watched them enter with a worried look.
Fearing Mo Qinghuan might still be upset, Mother Lu immediately approached, taking her hand and comforting her, “Qinghuan, Father Lu’s personality is just rigid and stubborn. Please don’t take it to heart. Let me apologize on his behalf, okay?”
“Mother, you’re the elder; how can you apologize to me, the younger?” Mo Qinghuan freed herself from Lu Yucheng’s firm grip, quickly holding Mother Lu’s hands. She could sense Mother Lu’s difficulty and good intentions clearly. On one side was a husband she’d lived with for over thirty years, and on the other, a beloved daughter-in-law. Mother Lu was indeed caught in a tough spot.
But Father Lu, the real culprit, remained silent, placing his teacup down and picking up the newspaper, seemingly indifferent to the other three. Of course, the ultimate reason was his dislike for Mo Qinghuan.
And what about Lu Yucheng, who saw all this? This time, he didn’t plan to hold back. Looking at Mother Lu, he spoke firmly, “Mother, I brought Qinghuan back to fulfill your wish for a family reunion. Since this home doesn’t welcome Qinghuan, it doesn’t welcome me either. We’re going upstairs to pack our things and leave. Thank you for your hospitality.”
Lu Yucheng’s decision to bring Mo Qinghuan back was to leave in front of Father Lu and Mother Lu, showing them his determination to protect Mo Qinghuan?
“What? Yucheng, are you leaving already?” Mother Lu’s eyes were full of reluctance. Her long-missed son had just brought his wife home last night, and now they were leaving after just one night. How could she not be heartbroken?
Mo Qinghuan frowned, facing Lu Yucheng’s decision, she whispered, “Can’t you see Mother is crying? And we agreed to stay for three days, but we’ve only spent one night. Yucheng, calm down. Don’t let things get out of control, okay?”
“But I can’t let you be hurt again.” Lu Yucheng was firm this time, and Mo Qinghuan knew who he was referring to.
She looked at him worriedly until Father Lu stood up from the sofa, leaning on his cane, and slowly moved toward the stairs, saying as he walked, “Yucheng, if you’re leaving, does Miss Mo feel the same way? Young people today are so unreliable, making promises one moment and forgetting them the next. It’s truly disappointing.”
Lu Yucheng didn’t understand what Father Lu meant, but Mo Qinghuan knew. She had indeed expressed in the hall earlier her determination to be accepted by the Lu family, not expecting Father Lu to remember.
Suddenly, she felt that this seemingly malicious old man wasn’t as terrifying as she had imagined. After all, he was a living person with feelings. Seeing Lu Yucheng and Mother Lu siding with her, his firm resolve must have wavered a bit.
“Uncle Lu, although I come from Showbiz, I never make empty promises. What I’ve pledged, I will fulfill. Please wait and see, Uncle Lu.” She smiled. Since Father Lu had unexpectedly extended an olive branch, she naturally accepted it, hoping to improve her image in his eyes.
After Father Lu went upstairs, Mother Lu held Lu Yucheng and Mo Qinghuan’s hands, unable to hide her joy, saying, “Yucheng, why don’t you and Qinghuan stay a couple more days? I think that old man is starting to accept Qinghuan.”
