The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 239 - The Direct Confrontation
Even though Father Lu had been cold and critical towards Mo Qinghuan yesterday, the situation hadn’t improved with Lu Yucheng and Mother Lu absent. In fact, it seemed to have intensified.
Fortunately, Mo Qinghuan was accustomed to handling challenging situations, so she managed to respond with a slight smile despite Father Lu’s sarcasm. “Alright, Uncle Lu, if calling you that makes you feel better. I’ve always thought that titles are just labels. As for family ties, Yucheng and I are legally married. Even if you don’t want to accept me, some facts can’t be ignored.”
Her voice was gentle, yet the firmness and determination behind her words were undeniable. Father Lu, a seasoned businessman who had dealt with all sorts of people, had never encountered a woman as clever and courageous as Mo Qinghuan.
He smirked, his expression mocking. Despite her impressive qualities, Father Lu remained convinced that her background was unworthy of Lu Yucheng.
He continued his taunting, “Miss Mo, you’re as clever as the rumors say. I’ve seen it firsthand today. But I can’t accept your background. The Showbiz world is a mess. Didn’t your longtime friend Shen Meng recently make headlines for becoming a third-rate starlet? Birds of a feather flock together, right? If you can be friends, your morals must be similar.”
“If Uncle Lu knows how chaotic Showbiz is, how could you not realize that the friendship with Shen Meng is fabricated?” Mo Qinghuan thought Father Lu was deliberately ignoring the truth to find reasons to reject her.
Seeing through Father Lu’s intentions, Mo Qinghuan felt her opponent was stubborn yet formidable. She furrowed her brow slightly and spoke calmly.
As expected, Father Lu’s expression didn’t soften with her explanation. He smiled slyly, “Well, Miss Shen has fallen from grace. You can make excuses all you want, but Miss Mo, let me remind you, dreaming of my approval is futile!”
“Dear?” Mother Lu returned from her workout, overhearing the exchange between Father Lu and Mo Qinghuan. She hurried inside, hoping to intervene, but she was too late.
She quickly tried to mediate, explaining to Mo Qinghuan, “Qinghuan, don’t mind him. He’s all bark and no bite.”
“Enough with the excuses. I’ve said what needed to be said to Miss Mo,” Father Lu dismissed Mother Lu’s attempt to smooth things over. He turned back to Mo Qinghuan, his gaze challenging, “I hope Miss Mo will behave herself. Stay with Yucheng, and if you try anything else, I won’t stand for it.”
“What are you saying?” Mother Lu stomped her foot in frustration. But Father Lu’s stubbornness was unyielding, and she could only watch Mo Qinghuan’s reaction. Surprisingly, Mo Qinghuan wasn’t upset. Instead, she stood up, bowed politely to Father Lu, and said:
“Uncle Lu’s words have taught me a lot. From a rational standpoint, there’s truth in what you say. Parents naturally want the best for their children. But Uncle Lu, I won’t give up on earning your approval. I’m young and have plenty of time to prove myself. I believe you’ll change your mind someday.”
With that, she left the room, though her anger simmered beneath her composed exterior. She needed to walk and clear her mind.
Watching her leave, Mother Lu sat on the sofa, feeling a mix of frustration and fear of Father Lu’s temper. “You were too harsh. Qinghuan is a good girl. Couldn’t you see that? If it were some spoiled rich girl, she’d be crying home by now. But Qinghuan handled it gracefully.”
“That just shows her acting skills, not her character,” Father Lu remained stubborn, dismissing Mother Lu’s defense. “I’ve investigated Mo Qinghuan’s family. She might want to run home, but there’s no one there to listen.”
“Sigh,” Mother Lu sighed, knowing she could never sway Father Lu.
Unbeknownst to them, Lu Yucheng had overheard their conversation. Despite his efforts to limit Mo Qinghuan’s interactions with Father Lu, he had fallen asleep and missed the confrontation. Now, Mo Qinghuan was nowhere to be seen.
“Father, what did you say to Qinghuan?” Lu Yucheng rushed down the stairs, alarmed by the scene. Mother Lu worriedly called out:
“Son, slow down! Be careful, or you’ll fall!”
“Mom, please,” Lu Yucheng was furious. He stood before Father Lu, fists clenched. He had just asked Father Lu to give him time to prove Mo Qinghuan’s worth, yet Father Lu had already upset her.
“What if I did?” Father Lu slapped the sofa and stood up, unwilling to back down. Though he was shorter than Lu Yucheng, he refused to lose in spirit. “I didn’t seek her out. She approached me, thinking she could win me over. Blame her lack of judgment.”
Lu Yucheng was livid, his anger palpable. Mother Lu sensed the tension and quickly suggested, “Yucheng, go find Qinghuan. She’s new here and might get lost.”
“I will,” Lu Yucheng gave Father Lu a resigned look and dashed out, not even bothering to grab a coat.
Meanwhile, Mo Qinghuan, feeling frustrated, wandered to a small river she had noticed earlier. The area was quiet, untouched by development. The clear water seemed to wash away her worries.
She couldn’t resist removing her shoes and socks, dipping her feet into the cool water. It wasn’t deep, just reaching her knees. Occasionally, small fish brushed against her skin, eliciting a joyful laugh.
Lu Yucheng finally found her, but from a distance, it seemed like she was contemplating something drastic. He rushed over, scooping her up, and said worriedly, “Qinghuan, don’t do anything foolish. Father is just stubborn. He’ll come around.”
