The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 238 - The Precious Bracelet
“If Father insists on seeing Qinghuan as a stumbling block in my life, then there will be more times when I disappoint him in the future.” His gaze was firm as he looked at Father Lu, each word carrying a resolute weight.
Father Lu was taken aback by his son’s stubbornness, his aged yet sharp eyes filled with anger. “I hope you’re right, that she’s truly an exceptional woman. Otherwise, don’t come crying to me when you regret it!”
With that, he brushed past Lu Yucheng, leaning on his cane as he ascended the stairs.
Lu Yucheng released his tightly clenched fists, his determination to protect Mo Qinghuan unwavering.
Upstairs, in the room, Mother Lu led Mo Qinghuan into the collection room. Father Lu had a passion for collecting antiques and paintings, but rarely displayed them for others, preferring to admire them alone. Even though Mo Qinghuan wasn’t familiar with these collectibles, the traces of age on them hinted at their immense value.
She was eager to leave and said to Mother Lu, “I think I’ll wait outside.”
“What’s there to be afraid of?” Mother Lu, seeing Mo Qinghuan’s cautious demeanor, smiled knowingly. She held her hand and led her further inside, saying, “Since you’ve married Yucheng, you’re now a daughter-in-law of the Lu family. These collectibles will eventually belong to you and Yucheng. Besides, I’m the one bringing you in, so there’s nothing to fear.”
Mother Lu’s assurance, as if she would back Mo Qinghuan up if anything happened, clearly showed her fondness for her. She then took out a beautifully green jade bracelet from the collection and introduced it, “This was put on me by Yucheng’s grandmother on my wedding day. While it may not be priceless, it’s been passed down through generations. Qinghuan, I’m giving this bracelet to you, so you can pass it on to your and Yucheng’s next generation, alright?”
Upon hearing about the bracelet’s significance, Mo Qinghuan hesitated to accept it. She shook her head and refused, “Mother, I can’t accept something so precious. Please keep it safe.”
“Take it. It’s my heartfelt gift, and with your relationship with Yucheng, I’m sure you’ll soon have the next generation. Qinghuan, you must strive to give the Lu family several healthy grandchildren.”
Without further ado, Mother Lu slipped the bracelet onto Mo Qinghuan’s wrist. The green jade complemented her fair skin, making it look even more beautiful. Mother Lu praised her, saying the bracelet seemed tailor-made for Mo Qinghuan.
Receiving the bracelet was akin to receiving Mother Lu’s approval. Mo Qinghuan gently caressed the exquisite bracelet, a smile forming at the corner of her lips.
Returning to the room, Lu Yucheng was anxiously waiting. Seeing Mo Qinghuan enter, he quickly approached, his gaze fixed on the bracelet, surprised. “Did Mom give you this bracelet? When I was little, I thought it was beautiful and wanted to touch it, but Mom wouldn’t let me. It seems she’s acknowledged you as her daughter-in-law.”
“But isn’t accepting such a valuable gift inappropriate? Even though I don’t understand antique appraisal, I can tell this bracelet is worth much more than the gifts I brought. Should I return it to Mother?” Feeling uneasy about accepting the bracelet, Mo Qinghuan considered returning it.
However, Lu Yucheng stopped her, his face full of affection. “Silly, Mom gave it to you, which means she’s accepted you. If you return it, what would Mom think? Keep it, isn’t it meant to be passed on to the next generation?”
“But I still feel awkward,” Mo Qinghuan expressed her concern.
Fortunately, Lu Yucheng’s gentle smile eased her worries, and she finally decided to keep the bracelet, cherishing Mother Lu’s heartfelt gesture.
Meanwhile, in Father and Mother Lu’s room, this couple, who had lived together for over thirty years, didn’t need words to understand each other’s actions. Father Lu could guess what Mother Lu had done from her expression.
He scoffed, “Already brought out your wedding bracelet? Be careful not to misjudge someone and throw away a treasure into a bottomless pit. You’ll regret it then.”
“I believe Qinghuan is a good kid. Honey, you’re overthinking it,” Mother Lu laughed, looking at Father Lu. She felt comforted when she gave the bracelet, believing it had found a worthy successor. But Father Lu’s words made the situation seem strange. She helped him take off his shoes and socks, continuing to persuade him, “Besides, Qinghuan is the wife Yucheng chose. Honey, even if you don’t trust Qinghuan, can’t you trust Yucheng’s judgment?”
“He’s good in every way, but his character is too much like yours, too indecisive. You two are too trusting, without a sense of caution. In my opinion, that Mo Qinghuan isn’t as simple as she seems. She’s too smooth in handling things, and my intuition is rarely wrong.” Father Lu remained stubborn, and no matter what Mother Lu said, it was futile.
Watching Father Lu’s resolute figure, Mother Lu sighed. It seemed Mo Qinghuan would need a long time to earn Father Lu’s approval.
The next day.
Perhaps due to the change in beds, Mo Qinghuan woke up early. But as she was about to get out of bed, Lu Yucheng, seemingly still asleep, suddenly wrapped his arms around her slender waist, making it impossible for her to move.
Mo Qinghuan knew he was pretending to sleep. She had a habit of recognizing beds, tossing and turning all night, unable to sleep until dawn. Lu Yucheng probably didn’t rest well either. She turned and held his tired face, apologizing, “Yucheng, I’m sorry. I kept you from resting well.”
“I’m a grown man; missing a night or two of sleep is no big deal. But you, you haven’t rested well during the honeymoon, and last night was no better. Why don’t you sleep a bit more?” Lu Yucheng worried about Mo Qinghuan, fearing her lack of rest would affect her health.
But Mo Qinghuan rejected the suggestion, shaking her head and responding, “It’s fine at the Lu family, but if we get caught lazing around by Father and Mother, they’ll surely tease us. I’ll get up and wash up first. You should hurry downstairs too.”
She didn’t want to give Father Lu, who already disliked her, any reason to criticize her, so she freed herself from Lu Yucheng’s embrace and went into the bathroom. Meanwhile, Lu Yucheng, hearing the sound of the shower, unknowingly fell back asleep.
When Mo Qinghuan came downstairs, dressed in neat jeans and a T-shirt, she found the hall empty except for Father Lu reading the newspaper on the sofa and a few maids cleaning. Mother Lu was nowhere to be seen.
Though being alone with Father Lu was awkward, Mo Qinghuan wasn’t one to shy away. She put on a relaxed smile and slowly descended the stairs, addressing Father Lu, “Uncle Lu, you’re up early. Where’s Mother?”
“She has a habit of exercising early,” Father Lu replied curtly, glancing at Mo Qinghuan. Seeing her smile at him, he put down the newspaper and continued coldly, “Yesterday, I didn’t object to you calling me ‘Father’ for Yucheng’s sake. But when no one’s around, call me Uncle Lu. I don’t feel we’re close enough for such familial nicknames.”
