The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 236 - The Intimidating Father Lu
Mother Lu seemed to awaken from her joy, following Lu Yucheng’s gaze to Mo Qinghuan. Although she had seen her many times on television, this was their first meeting in person. Mother Lu couldn’t help but praise, “I didn’t expect Miss Mo to be even more beautiful in person than on TV. No wonder my darling son is so smitten with you.”
Though it was a compliment, given they were strangers meeting for the first time, Mo Qinghuan found it hard to discern any genuine affection from Mother Lu’s words.
“Mom, I told you not to call me darling anymore, didn’t I?” Lu Yucheng awkwardly reminded Mother Lu, but she seemed not to hear him, her eyes still appraising Mo Qinghuan.
Seeing this, Mo Qinghuan smiled slightly and said to Lu Yucheng, “No matter how old a child gets, in their parents’ eyes, they’re still a baby. Yucheng, I think it’s a sign of love and care when Mother calls you that. Why aren’t you appreciating it?”
The word “Mother” instantly delighted Mother Lu, who had been cautiously observing Mo Qinghuan. She stepped forward to embrace Mo Qinghuan, happily saying, “Welcome, Qinghuan. If there’s anything you’d like to eat, just let me know, and I’ll have the chef prepare it for you.”
With that, Mother Lu took Mo Qinghuan’s hand, and the two walked forward, chatting and laughing. As they reached the entrance to the hall, she playfully winked at Lu Yucheng, who stood there, stunned.
Behind them, Lu Yucheng watched their retreating figures, caught between laughter and tears. He knew Mother Lu was kind and easygoing, but he hadn’t expected that a simple term of endearment from Mo Qinghuan would make her so happy that she’d forget her beloved son.
Though surprised, he knew this was a good start, so he followed them into the hall.
“Qinghuan, you must stay a few days this time and keep me company. You have no idea how lonely it gets here in the suburbs with no familiar faces around,” Mother Lu lamented to Mo Qinghuan. It was clear that she was an outgoing woman, and she seemed to feel an instant connection with Mo Qinghuan, talking non-stop.
Mo Qinghuan naturally enjoyed interacting with such a Mother Lu. She listened attentively and responded wisely, saying, “Sure, I don’t have any work commitments recently. As long as you don’t find me a bother, I’d love to stay a few days.”
“How could I? I’d love to have someone to chat with every day,” Mother Lu said, holding Mo Qinghuan’s hand, increasingly satisfied with her new daughter-in-law.
But as they sat on the sofa in the hall, a man’s stern voice suddenly echoed from the upstairs corridor: “What’s all this noise? Didn’t I say that if you want to continue living in this villa, you must keep it quiet at all times?”
The shout halted Mo Qinghuan’s words in her throat. When she glanced at Mother Lu, she saw her face turn pale and her body tremble slightly, as if she were afraid of the owner of the voice upstairs.
Lu Yucheng patted Mo Qinghuan’s shoulder reassuringly and introduced, “Don’t be afraid, Qinghuan. That’s my father, whom I mentioned on the way here…”
“Hello, Father-in-law. I’m sorry we couldn’t visit sooner. I hope you’ll forgive us for our tardiness,” Mo Qinghuan quickly stood up from the sofa, bowing in apology to Father Lu, who stood on the second floor with a stern expression, leaning on his cane.
Unlike Mother Lu’s kindly demeanor, Father Lu’s gaze from above was full of disdain and scorn, as if he were looking at a lowly servant.
Even though Mo Qinghuan apologized and bowed, Father Lu remained unimpressed. He descended the stairs slowly, leaning on his cane, and addressed Lu Yucheng, “Since you didn’t need our approval to get married, why bring her back now?”
“It was Mother who called and asked us to come back for a family meal. Father, I was wrong to go against your wishes before, but I’ll prove to you with my actions that my choice was right,” Lu Yucheng said, glancing at Mo Qinghuan as if to give her courage.
Despite her fear of Father Lu, Mother Lu couldn’t help but speak up for Lu Yucheng, “Husband, since Yucheng and Qinghuan are married, she’s our daughter-in-law now. Don’t be so stern with the child you just met. What if you scare her?”
“Hmph!” Whether it was Lu Yucheng’s apology or Mother Lu’s persuasion, Father Lu stopped his aggressive stance and slowly descended the stairs, with Mother Lu quickly assisting him to the sofa.
Throughout the process, Mo Qinghuan maintained a polite smile, even as her cheeks began to cramp. Feeling Father Lu’s cold gaze, she quickly presented the gifts she had prepared, saying, “These are some supplements I carefully selected with the store’s recommendation. I hope you’ll like them, Father-in-law and Mother-in-law.”
Seeing the brand and high-end packaging of the gifts, Mother Lu exclaimed, “These are top-quality supplements. Qinghuan, you’re so thoughtful.”
“After all, it’s not money earned through hard work, so even if you spend lavishly, you wouldn’t feel the pinch, right?” Father Lu seemed to assume Mo Qinghuan had used Lu Yucheng’s money to buy the gifts, scoffing with disdain.
Lu Yucheng couldn’t sit still and defended Mo Qinghuan, “Father, Qinghuan bought these gifts with her own money. She’s more independent and strong-willed than you think.”
“The gifts are yours, and you know whose money was spent. There’s no need to pretend in front of me,” Father Lu retorted, his attitude growing increasingly hostile.
Just as Lu Yucheng was about to argue further to prevent Mo Qinghuan from being wronged, she stopped him. Smiling to ease the tension, she said, “Yucheng, perhaps Father-in-law means that since we’re married, no matter whose money is spent, it’s all family expenses, right?”
Her tactful way of giving Father Lu an out made Mother Lu very pleased. Even if Father Lu remained stubborn, she had already accepted Mo Qinghuan as her daughter-in-law in her heart.
After calming Lu Yucheng, Mo Qinghuan took out a small gift box and handed it to Mother Lu, saying, “Mother-in-law, Yucheng mentioned you like jade jewelry. I picked this out for you. I hope you like the style.”
“You’re so considerate,” Mother Lu said, opening the box. The necklace’s design immediately caught her eye, and she put it on in front of Mo Qinghuan, showing it off to Father Lu and Lu Yucheng. “Husband, son, look at this. Qinghuan has such great taste. Doesn’t this necklace suit me perfectly?”
“Mom, Qinghuan chose these gifts with great care. Of course, it’s perfect for you,” Lu Yucheng said, wrapping an arm around Mo Qinghuan’s shoulders and whispering affectionately in her ear, “Thank you, Qinghuan, for preparing such wonderful gifts for my parents. You truly are the perfect wife for me.”
