The President Made Me Trend - Chapter 235 - Father Lu and Mother Lu
Since it was her first visit to Father Lu and Mother Lu, Mo Qinghuan was particularly attentive when it came to gifts. She spent an entire day with Huo-Jie at the mall, selecting a range of exquisite presents. Having heard that Mother Lu had a fondness for jade, Mo Qinghuan generously picked out a necklace from a jade store, its Buddhist motifs and silver embellishments adding a touch of elegance.
However, when it came time to pay, Huo-Jie felt a pang of sympathy for Mo Qinghuan. Stubborn by nature, Mo Qinghuan had deliberately chosen not to use Lu Yucheng’s credit card, opting instead to dip into her own savings. Although she had enough, Huo-Jie knew her remaining balance wasn’t substantial.
“Qinghuan,” Huo-Jie remarked with concern, “since you’re married to Mr. Lu now, using his money is perfectly normal. Why dip into your savings?”
If it were anyone else, they might have used their husband’s money without a second thought, especially since her earnings came from hard work in showbiz. But Mo Qinghuan merely smiled, her expression serene and uncalculating. “Since they’re Yucheng’s parents, it’s only right for me, as their daughter-in-law, to show some filial piety. Huo-Jie, please have them load the gifts into the car.”
“Alright.” Huo-Jie instructed the store staff to load the gifts, but as she glanced at Mo Qinghuan’s delicate profile, a sense of worry lingered. On the wedding day, Father Lu and Mother Lu had found excuses not to attend, citing health issues. Would Mo Qinghuan’s visit with lavish gifts change their dismissive attitude?
Mo Qinghuan was well aware of Huo-Jie’s concerns. But they were, after all, Lu Yucheng’s biological parents, the ones who had raised and nurtured him. It was understandable for them to have their own ideas about choosing a daughter-in-law, and Mo Qinghuan was willing to make the effort for Lu Yucheng’s sake.
The next day, after ensuring the maid would take good care of Little Bun, Lu Yucheng and Mo Qinghuan set off. As they drove, Mo Qinghuan quietly watched the scenery pass by. It was said that after handing over the Lu family affairs to Lu Yucheng, Father Lu and Mother Lu had moved to the suburbs, about a two-hour drive from the Lu family home.
Several times, Lu Yucheng glanced at Mo Qinghuan, as if he had something to say, but he swallowed his words, furrowing his brow.
Sensing his unease, Mo Qinghuan turned to him with a smile. “Yucheng, what’s up with you today? You seem a bit off.”
“Nothing, just didn’t sleep well last night,” Lu Yucheng awkwardly explained, but his evasiveness was obvious. Mo Qinghuan could tell his unease wasn’t just from a lack of sleep.
Feigning a bit of annoyance, she pressed on, “Didn’t you say before we got married that we shouldn’t hide anything from each other? But now you’re keeping things from me. Yucheng, what are you worried about? Are you afraid I won’t make a good impression on your parents?”
Knowing the Lu family was influential, and she was just a former showbiz star, Mo Qinghuan wondered if Lu Yucheng was worried she’d come across as too frivolous.
“No, no, Qinghuan, I don’t think that at all. Whether you’re a wealthy heiress or a famous actress, I love you for who you are, not your status or past,” Lu Yucheng quickly reassured her, pulling over to the side of the road. Looking at Mo Qinghuan, who seemed a bit annoyed, he sighed and continued, “Actually, I’m not worried about you making a bad impression. I’m worried about how my parents might treat you. Mother is gentle and won’t have issues with our marriage, but Father is stubborn. He thinks all actresses are flighty and unworthy of marrying into the Lu family. So, Qinghuan…”
“So they didn’t attend our wedding because they thought I was an embarrassment?” Mo Qinghuan interjected, having already guessed as much.
Her anger subsided, and she looked at Lu Yucheng with composure. Her grace only made Lu Yucheng feel more indebted to her. He took her hand, speaking softly yet firmly, “Qinghuan, trust me. No matter what my parents think, I won’t let you go. I’ll find a way to convince them. So, during this visit, even if things aren’t perfect, please bear with it for my sake. I promise, in three days, I’ll find an excuse to take you back to the Lu family. Is that okay?”
Typically, newlyweds might want to spend more time with their in-laws to build a relationship, but for Lu Yucheng, three days was the limit. He planned to avoid giving Father Lu any chance to be alone with Mo Qinghuan.
Seeing Lu Yucheng’s worried expression, Mo Qinghuan smiled gently, curious about how difficult Father Lu could be. She wondered if the expensive supplements she bought, not knowing Father Lu’s preferences, would upset him.
Two hours passed quickly, and Lu Yucheng’s car pulled up to a luxurious villa in the suburbs. Mother Lu, having heard of their arrival, was already waiting at the gate. As Lu Yucheng and Mo Qinghuan stepped out of the car, she couldn’t hide her joy. She rushed forward to hug Lu Yucheng, affectionately saying, “My dear son, you’re finally back! Mommy missed you so much. Why don’t you visit more often?”
“Mom, I’m a grown man now. Can you stop using my childhood nickname?” Lu Yucheng glanced at Mo Qinghuan, who was stifling a laugh, his handsome face tinged with embarrassment. He whispered to Mother Lu, “Especially with Qinghuan watching, it’s so embarrassing!”
