The Mystical Feng Shui Files - Chapter 18 - The Beast Within
My heart skipped a beat; the female ghost was recreating the events of that night. What followed was surely something unbearable for her, culminating in her jumping off the building.
I watched her smiling as she took the drink and gulped it down. Moments later, her head spun, and she slumped over the table.
Director Zhao immediately laughed and looked toward the door. Knowing he couldn’t see me, I didn’t bother to hide.
Interrupting the female ghost at this moment would definitely drive her mad, potentially leading to uncontrollable consequences.
Knowing what was about to happen and actually witnessing it unfold are completely different experiences.
My master often chastised me for my youthful recklessness. Despite my burning desire to intervene as I watched everything unfold before me, my feet felt as if they were rooted to the ground, immovable.
I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, and then opened them to see the girl crying while Director Zhao casually pulled on his trousers.
His lips moved, but I couldn’t hear what he said. The girl, as if soulless, stood up in a daze and slowly walked toward the door.
Director Zhao watched her with a cold smirk from behind.
As the girl passed by me and headed outside, she climbed the stairs.
I turned back only to find Director Zhao walking out as if he too were soulless, his body stiff as he followed the girl upstairs.
Here we go!
I took another deep breath and followed closely behind him.
Hu Tieming, panting heavily, finally made it to the tenth floor. He waved at me, wanting to say something but only managed to swallow his saliva without uttering a word.
I motioned for him to be quiet and pointed upstairs.
Hu Tieming froze, watching Director Zhao walk up like a puppet, and quickly joined me.
In a low voice, I said, “The female ghost has latched onto him; he might jump off!”
“What should we do?” Hu Tieming asked in a trembling voice, his forehead sweating.
“Follow me! Stand behind me and hold this,” I handed him a yellow talisman.
We tiptoed behind them all the way to the rooftop.
The female ghost, dressed in a red gown, stood at the edge of the roof. Director Zhao stepped toward her, also reaching the edge.
“Zhao…” Hu Tieming, in a panic, was about to rush forward but I quickly pulled him back and gestured for silence.
I stealthily approached and saw Director Zhao mimicking the female ghost’s posture, arms spread wide, head tilted back, eyes slowly closing.
The female ghost leaned forward and in an instant, she fell. Director Zhao’s body also leaned forward.
Seizing the moment, I lunged forward, grabbing him and pulling him back, both of us crashing to the ground. I heard a loud “thump.”
Hu Tieming ran to the edge and peered down to see the red-dressed girl lying on the ground in a twisted pose, blood pooling beneath her.
“Ah…” Terrified, he quickly retreated and sat down far back on the roof.
I didn’t have time to attend to him; I formed a finger seal and placed it on Director Zhao’s forehead.
Director Zhao opened his mouth and exhaled a black aura, slowly regaining consciousness.
“You…” His eyes, full of confusion, met mine.
Hu Tieming scrambled over, “Director Zhao, are you alright?”
“Teacher Hu?” Director Zhao rubbed his forehead and sat up, “What happened? Why am I here?”
He looked around, his face showing shock at his surroundings.
I watched him coldly as I stood up, suddenly feeling a chilling presence creeping up behind me. I turned sharply to find the female ghost, who had fallen earlier, now back at the edge of the rooftop, staring intently in our direction.
This time, even though I was prepared, it was of no use-both Hu Tieming and Director Zhao saw her.
“A ghost, a ghost, a ghost!” Director Zhao was the most terrified, his legs trembling as he stumbled backward. Even Hu Tieming was so frightened that he fell to the ground again, swallowing hard and gasping for air.
I reached into my pocket and pulled out a yellow talisman, forming a finger seal with my hand as I drew out a red thread. “Every grievance has its source, and every debt its debtor. You’ve had your revenge, isn’t it time to move on?” I called out sternly.
Although I had stopped Director Zhao at the last moment, he had already mimicked the female ghost’s action of jumping off the building, which should have fulfilled her wish and resolved her resentment. Yet, unexpectedly, things took a turn.
It seemed that unless Director Zhao died, the female ghost would not relent. In that case, I had no choice but to take action.
“You deserve to die…” a mournful female voice echoed around me.
“Stay away! Stay away!” Director Zhao was already beside himself with fear, clinging to Hu Tieming like a lifeline. “Go after him, yes, go after him, not me!”
Caught off guard, Hu Tieming was shoved forward by Director Zhao. The female ghost lunged at him instantly.
I stepped sideways, swinging out the red thread while extending a foot to hook Hu Tieming back as he stumbled forward.
“Hold the talisman in your hand!” I instructed him.
Hu Tieming quickly fished out the yellow talisman I had given him from his pocket, holding it shakily in front of himself.
The female ghost was repelled by my red thread, halting in place, her pale eyes seemingly searching for something.
Suddenly, she spotted Director Zhao and froze.
Director Zhao panicked, seeing what Hu Tieming held, and lunged to grab it, causing the two to scuffle.
Hu Tieming, caught off guard once more, felt his anger rise. This time, he wouldn’t let Director Zhao succeed, shoving him aside with a firm push.
But Director Zhao lunged again, and they were locked in another struggle.
The female ghost charged at them, her form flickering. I had no choice but to swing the red thread again.
Unexpectedly, the red thread snagged on the doorframe leading to the rooftop, and with a tug, it snapped.
The female ghost rushed forward, her hands outstretched, fingers with pitch-black, razor-sharp nails, ready to claw at the two men.
Startled, they both ducked to the ground.
I quickly stepped forward, holding the yellow talisman before me, forming a finger seal, and hurled it at the female ghost. “Ignite!”
As the word left my lips, the yellow talisman burst into flames, striking the charging female ghost.
With a wail, the female ghost was knocked back, falling to the ground, struggling to rise.
Seizing the opportunity, I wrapped the red thread around her twice, finally catching my breath.
The female ghost stood up, darting left and right, unable to break free, her malevolent aura flaring as she hissed at me.
“Master Jiang!” Hu Tieming called out, attempting to rush over, only to be grabbed by Director Zhao and slammed to the ground.
I was furious.
If not for you, I might have finished this and gone home by now.
I walked over and kicked Director Zhao, knocking him out cold.
I reached out to help Hu Tieming up. “Teacher Hu, are you alright?”
“I’m fine…” Hu Tieming clutched his chest, the fall had been hard. “Why did Director Zhao act like this?”
I recounted what I had witnessed earlier.
After hearing it, Hu Tieming stood there, mouth agape, wanting to say something but ultimately just cursing, “Scum!”
“Don’t worry, I’m here!” I said, offering words I believed would reassure everyone.
And indeed, it worked. Hu Tieming nodded gratefully.
“Hold on a moment!” I told him, walking over to the female ghost. I pulled out a red cloth inscribed with a talisman from my pocket, formed a finger seal, and tossed it onto her. Then I stepped forward, gathered her up, and placed her into a red cloth bag adorned with symbols.
“Master Jiang, what about him?” Hu Tieming asked, looking at the unconscious Director Zhao.
“Him? We’ll take him back to the office first. Once your matter is settled, I’ll make sure he confesses to everyone about what he’s done!”
