The Mystical Feng Shui Files - Chapter 17 - Oh No, Something's Happened!
Director Zhao was dressed in a white shirt, light brown trousers, brown leather shoes, and a black belt with a jangling set of keys. What caught my attention was his appearance-a middle-aged man in his fifties or sixties with a receding hairline, looking over his glasses in a rather greasy manner.
His smile was peculiar, with one corner of his mouth curling up while the other drooped down. If it were me, I’d probably get a cramp from trying to mimic that expression.
“Ah, Teacher Hu! What brings you here so late? And this student is…?” he asked, glancing at me.
“This is my nephew. He just finished his college entrance exams and came to check out the school,” Hu Tieming introduced me with the reason we had agreed upon.
“Nice young man. What major are you applying for? Any special skills?” Director Zhao inquired, feigning interest. But with his face shrouded in a thick resentful aura, even a smile seemed forced.
I managed to pull a smile, albeit awkwardly. “I’m applying for the Chinese Language Major. As for special skills…” I glanced at Hu Tieming, noticing his slight nervousness, “Does family-taught martial arts count?”
Director Zhao’s eyes lit up. “Oh! That’s quite a skill! Teacher Hu, I never heard you mention having a relative skilled in martial arts, especially one that’s family-taught!”
“Ah, it’s from my brother-in-law’s side. No one in my family has such skills!” Hu Tieming quickly replied. “We won’t keep you, Director Zhao. I’m just taking him around the campus and came by to grab some keys. I left my spare keys in the office.”
“Oh, then you should hurry. I’ll be on my way!”
“Take care, Director Zhao!”
I watched as Director Zhao pressed the elevator button. The doors opened immediately, even though the elevator hadn’t moved.
I saw him step in, waving at us with his back to the female ghost.
“Alright, let’s go,” Hu Tieming said.
I couldn’t help but feel a bit worried. Could this female ghost be connected to Director Zhao? Would he be alright alone in the elevator?
“It’s a bit dark,” Hu Tieming remarked, pulling out his phone to use as a flashlight.
I didn’t mind much, as my eyes were special and could see in the dark, but I didn’t mention it. I followed him down the corridor.
The light from the streetlamps outside the corridor windows, though dim, was enough to make out the outlines of things.
When we reached an office door, Hu Tieming unlocked it and said to me, “This Director Zhao isn’t really a director yet. He’s just acting as one because his official title hasn’t been confirmed, and the school hasn’t issued a formal appointment.”
I listened as he spoke and followed him into the office.
He turned on the lights, revealing several desks cluttered with books and documents. The walls were lined with neatly arranged filing cabinets.
He walked over to a desk at the far end and said, “This is my desk, and the one next to it is Director Zhao’s.”
I carefully looked from the left side and then scanned the entire environment, finding nothing amiss.
I turned my attention to the decorations on everyone’s desks and asked, “I noticed that Director Zhao’s complexion looks a bit gloomy. Has something happened recently?”
Hu Tieming was surprised, “You noticed? It’s about the girl you just asked me about. There were rumors that she was involved with him, but there was no evidence. At that time, the surveillance system in this building was under maintenance, so people just talked behind his back, but no one would really speak out. By the way, how did you notice?”
Just as I reached Director Zhao’s desk, I was about to pick up a picture frame to take a closer look, but paused and looked up at Hu Tieming, “It’s related to that girl?”
“What’s wrong?” Perhaps noticing my shock, Hu Tieming also stopped tidying his desk.
“If there’s no evidence, why say it’s related to him?”
“Well, it’s a bit complicated to explain!” Hu Tieming’s gaze also turned complex and difficult to read, “Director Zhao has some peculiar hobbies, often asking female students to come over at night to help him with things. Before the incident, he was preparing his materials for a promotion, but he hadn’t completed many summaries, so he asked that girl to help. She was seen here several days in a row. So after the girl jumped from the building, rumors started to spread.”
Hearing this, it wasn’t hard to guess what kind of person Director Zhao was.
Probably taking advantage of his position, he must have done something inappropriate to that girl.
“Oh no!” I exclaimed, not caring whether he believed or feared, and quickly walked out, “Hurry and follow him, I asked you this because I saw a girl in the elevator, her resentful aura was identical to Director Zhao’s, we need to stop him before something happens!”
Hu Tieming was startled, reacting strongly, “What did you say? You saw… a ghost?”
I thought, he could casually mention that three people had died in his building and that someone had jumped from it because he couldn’t see their souls.
Now that I’ve pointed it out, he looked completely shocked, eyes wide open.
What changed my view of him was that despite being frightened, he still ran out with me.
The elevator numbers were still descending, only reaching the third floor.
But from when we left Director Zhao at the office to now, nearly ten minutes had passed.
“It’s really happening!” I exclaimed. Hu Tieming frantically pressed the upward button, but it was useless, so I immediately ran towards the stairs, “This way!”
In the empty building, only our hurried footsteps could be heard.
The lights in the stairwell lit up one by one as we moved.
But the elevator seemed to still be on the third floor.
When we reached the third floor, we found the elevator had started ascending again, now back to the tenth floor.
I called out and turned back to run.
Hu Tieming was panting, and unlike me, who exercises regularly, he was struggling to keep up.
“Take it slow, I’ll catch up!” I said.
Clenching my teeth, I leaped several steps at a time, quickly reaching the tenth floor again.
The elevator doors were open, but there was no one inside, not even the female ghost.
I looked around, raising my hands, but the temperature seemed to have dropped.
It was eerily quiet, I couldn’t even hear Hu Tieming climbing the stairs below.
I knew, the female ghost was ready to act.
I slowly walked to the middle of the corridor, looking both ways.
It was from Hu Tieming’s office that a white mist rolled out into the corridor.
I pulled out a yellow talisman from my bag, holding it tightly as I walked forward.
Reaching the door, I finally saw Director Zhao returning, along with a beautiful young woman, the same one I had seen in the elevator.
Only now, the woman looked vibrant and youthful, with long hair cascading over her shoulders, wearing a long red dress, sitting at Director Zhao’s desk, writing something.
Director Zhao, looking sleazy, stood behind her, bending over slightly, his face just above her head.
Then, he seemed to inhale deeply, closing his eyes in delight.
After that, he made a lewd gesture with his hand moving downwards, turned, and opened a cabinet behind him, taking out two bottles of drink. He opened one bottle, dropped a pill into it, closed the lid, shook the drink, and looked back at the young woman with a meaningful smile.
He closed the cabinet, put down one bottle, holding the one with the pill, and cheerily said, “Thirsty? Have some drink.” Then, right in front of the girl, he opened the bottle and handed it over!
