The Journey of Resident Evil - Chapter 27 - Fei Fei
Ye Xiang and I cautiously approached the young girl. To our relief, she wasn’t a zombie; she was human. We had found another survivor.
“Hello! My name is Zhang Tiankuang, but you can call me Tiankuang,” I said.
“Hi! I’m Fei Fei,” she replied.
I glanced at Fei Fei.
The woman named Fei Fei had maintained herself remarkably well under these circumstances. She looked beautiful, and most notably, her figure was striking. She seemed to be in her twenties.
Fei Fei barely moved, just a slight flinch, and maintained her back toward me.
Something felt odd. I reached out, gently tapped her shoulder, and asked, “What are you doing?”
Fei Fei turned around slowly.
At first sight, I was utterly captivated by her appearance. Having always been fascinated by her figure, seeing it up close caused me to gasp.
“Incredible! Such a figure on earth is bound to cause turmoil!”
Fei Fei wore a white shirt, with the first and third buttons undone. Her pink lace bra revealed a considerable expanse of smooth, pale skin, and the pressure from two perfect spheres formed a deep cleavage in between.
I almost had a nosebleed, my body reacting unwittingly.
Even though it was hard to look away, I couldn’t keep staring at her chest. “You…” I began to say something.
Fei Fei puckered her dark red lips and murmured, “I thought I’d never see another human being. I didn’t expect to find so many people still alive. I was just so happy earlier! Sorry!”
“Tiankuang!” It was Liu Yonglin calling me.
I looked at Fei Fei and introduced my friends to her one by one.
Ye Xiang looked at Fei Fei and asked, “Aren’t you afraid to be out here alone?”
“Afraid of what?! It’s midday now; zombies won’t come out! You don’t have to worry,” Fei Fei said.
Sure enough, Liu Feng was right. At this time, the zombies were afraid of the sun-or rather, the heat!
Now we can be out here safely!
I brought Fei Fei back to the yard, locked it up, added some wood, and braced the iron gate to ensure our safety, but I still felt uneasy.
“It’s great! It’s really nice. Let’s tidy up the yard, and then we can live happily ever after,” I said with a smile.
No matter where you come from, as long as you are a living person, you are a friend here!
The yard was bustling with people, so it was quickly tidied up. We fixed every corner and patched up any missing parts.
Aside from a few scattered zombies, the rest had vanished. We moved the zombies into the sunlight. Gradually, they turned into vapor and ascended into the sky!
Seeing how tired I was, Qimeng-Jie ran over to help me and pinched my arm, “You can’t get too close to Fei Fei, I’ll get jealous!”
It turned out Qimeng-Jie didn’t come over specifically to help. I smiled and reassured her, “Don’t worry! I only like you, I definitely won’t have feelings for anyone else.”
Then Xueqi came running over, saying, “And me!”
Xueqi’s face turned red. She didn’t know why she blurted that out. Once the words were out, like water spilled, she couldn’t take them back, so she bravely said, “What? Am I not okay?!”
“Of course, you are! Why wouldn’t you be? It would be great to take care of Tiankuang together!” Qimeng said, holding Xueqi’s hand.
I awkwardly patted Qimeng-Jie’s head and said, “Let’s talk about this tonight. Right now, we need to clean up!”
“Hehe! Okay, we won’t disturb you anymore! Hehe, come on Qimeng-Jie, let’s go cook!” Xueqi pulled Qimeng-Jie away.
I shook my head, wondering if it was possible to have two wives? Hmm, I hadn’t thought about it before. Is it possible now?
“Ye Xiang, come help move this door.” The door had been knocked down by the zombies.
I went over, and soon Liu Yonglin also came to help. After a few hours of effort, we had the iron gate properly fixed and everything in place.
I was lying in the room in the yard when Qimeng came over and tapped on the window. I looked at her and cracked the window open a bit. “Qimeng, what’s up?” I stroked her cheek gently.
“Hold on a sec.” Qimeng let go of my hand, ran into the house, and made sure to lock the door behind her!
Seeing Qimeng act so mysteriously, I asked, “Why aren’t you cooking?”
“Xueqi is cooking. I have something to tell you!”
Qimeng looked down, her face showing a hint of shame, and I, feeling a bit tired, jokingly said, “I’m exhausted. What do you want to do? I’m so tired. Give me a massage, hehe!”
“Sure!” As Qimeng massaged me, I quickly fell asleep. I don’t know how long I slept, but suddenly Liu Yonglin woke me up, and I groggily asked, “What’s up, Liu Yonglin?”
Liu Yonglin sat on the bed, “Tiankuang, do you think we should just keep living here, or should we go out and save the world?”
“Save the world, you must be kidding. The world is so big, and so many people have turned into zombies. We have to wait for the people at the Research Institute to invent some sort of weapon before we can go out. For now, we just wait here. Going out now means certain death, and even if we don’t die, it won’t be easy. Why not enjoy a peaceful life? How wonderful and blissful it is! Think about how many people are still alive, not turned into zombies.”
“I think we should look around this village for other survivors first, and think about going elsewhere later. After all, we are not saviors,” I said. Deep down, I wanted to go too, but I was scared. What if something happened?
“Alright! Then let’s go tomorrow at noon and see if anyone is still alive! Ah, there’s no helping it, there are just too many zombies, and it’s too dangerous for those without weapons.”
As Qimeng and Xueqi walked over and saw Liu Yonglin and me talking, they asked, “What are you guys talking about?”
“We’re discussing whether to go out tomorrow and look for any survivors,” I honestly replied.
“Ah! Do we have to go? It’s so dangerous outside, what if the zombies come again?” Qimeng said worriedly.
“If there are survivors, we should try to save them. It’s dangerous, but we’ll save as many as we can,” I said calmly.
“Then let’s just look around nearby in the village. Let’s not go too far, okay?”
I nodded silently. I knew they were looking out for my best interest, for all of our best interests, but we had to do it!
“Alright! But I want to go with you!” Qimeng insisted, holding onto my hand tightly.
Fei Fei approached us and said, “Don’t underestimate these zombies. They come in levels. What we’re dealing with now are low-level ones, not the real zombies. I have some knowledge about this. The number of zombies, the terrain of the outbreak, and the reaction of those bitten can all vary greatly. The severity can be classified into four independent levels.
This is a low-level, Class 1 Outbreak, which often occurs in third-world countries or rural areas in first-world countries.
In some places, the outbreak’s scope and number of zombies are small, with the duration-meaning from the first incident to the last-lasting about ten days or so. The spread is limited, and the impact is minimal. As a result, responses from the public, law enforcement, or research groups are often mild or completely absent. Even if reported by research groups, these cases are often classified as murders or accidents. This is the most common type of outbreak and also the easiest to overlook.
In urban or high-density rural areas, the outbreak can be larger. The overall number of zombies and casualties can reach tens of thousands. However, the duration of zombie attacks is not significantly longer. In some cases, a larger number of zombies will lead to more abrupt situations. In sparsely populated rural areas, the outbreak may spread over a hundred-mile radius, while in cities, it might only affect a few blocks, allowing for a swift containment. Civilians’ teams will be replaced by local, state, or even national law enforcement forces, possibly with some low-level military support requested.
In most cases, militia or guards from other countries, or forces with equivalent combat capabilities, will play non-combat roles like providing medical aid, crowd control, and logistical support, resembling a low-intensity riot situation. Zombie outbreaks almost always attract public attention unless they occur in isolated corners or under strict media control, which means the events will be reported, though not necessarily accurately.
A genuine crisis, marked by a zombie outbreak, clearly demonstrates the immense threat posed by the living dead. The number of zombies will be uncountable, rampaging across several countries.
The attack’s duration, coupled with the extensive cleanup efforts, may last for months. There’s no feasible way to successfully contain an event of this scale.
And finally, there’s the airborne spread, where the zombie virus comes from another planet.”
Fei Fei shared a lot with us, but we only understood a little bit! We never expected her to know so much. Who knows where she got all this information? Maybe she knows even more!
“So, does this mean the whole world is experiencing an outbreak? Is it the apocalypse?”
“The apocalypse! It’s all over!” Ye Xiang said worriedly, looking up at the sky.
I opened my mouth, trying to say something, but in the end, I couldn’t utter a word.
“Sigh, even if we die, we’ll die together. There’s no choice. It’s the apocalypse,” Liu Yin remarked.
“Pfft, who said it’s the apocalypse! Look more closely; it’s just resident evil, not the apocalypse!” someone said.
Fei Fei wasn’t interested in explaining further. We had no idea who she really was, or how she knew so much. Even if she got something wrong, we wouldn’t know it.
I chuckled, “Fei Fei, what exactly do you do? Even if you’re a scientist, why aren’t you conducting research? Talking to us doesn’t really help.”
Suddenly, there was a loud crash from a thatched hut in the distance! The flimsy wooden door was instantly shredded in half by the gigantic claws of a humanoid monster. Sharp splinters pierced its arm, but it seemed unfazed by the pain, roaring and relentlessly attacking the obstacle before it!
Oh no, what is happening? I held a corn cob in my hand, staring at the thatched hut not far away.
“Liu Yonglin, Liu Qi, quick! It’s coming right at us!”
I shouted while pulling the trigger, “Bang!” The bullet hit the monster’s chest, eliciting a scream like a pig being slaughtered. The creature staggered back two steps but immediately charged again. Its massive claws slashed at the wooden door once more, this time completely destroying it, leaving a heap of branches and debris in the doorway.
The monster’s entire body was now visible at the entrance. The earlier explosion had left it in shambles, with multiple burns on its skin emitting wisps of white smoke. The air was thick with a nauseating stench of charred flesh. A branch had pierced its large eye, making it a gruesome and nauseating sight!
The monster, possibly due to the injury to its large eye, appeared to have impaired vision. Though it had broken through the gate, it seemed unable to find a target, flailing its massive claws aimlessly at everything in front of it.
At that moment, Qimeng and the other women were in a room. Hearing my shout, perhaps driven by a strong will to survive, they surprisingly remained calm. Although their hands were shaking, they didn’t slow down. They grabbed the guns from the room and rushed over to us.
Liu Qi, Liu Yin, Liu Feng, Qian Jing, and Sun Jing also gathered to watch, and with so many of us against just one monster, there was no sense of fear.
Observing the monster’s erratic movements, Ye Xiang signaled me with his hand. Understanding, I quickly moved to the left and grabbed a hand grenade nearby, tossing it towards the monster. With a boom, it exploded at its side.
Unexpectedly, the creature dodged, avoiding the full impact of the explosion.
The monster roared, and with the fury of an enraged bull, charged fiercely at the iron gate. But I was prepared, quickly tossing another grenade. Meanwhile, Liu Yonglin began firing at the monster’s back, and Liu Qi already had his machine gun aimed at its head. What started as a perfect ambush failed when the monster’s extraordinary senses alerted it; just as the bullet was about to hit its head, it shifted slightly, causing the shot to miss. However, the bullets hitting its body seemed utterly ineffective!
In pain, the monster crazily rammed its massive claws into the wall. With a resonating thud, I felt the whole building shake. At this critical moment, everyone fired their machine guns at the monster’s head, the powerful shots flinging its body backward into a wall with a heavy crash.
Seizing the opportunity, I threw another grenade. “Boom!” Two bloody holes appeared on the monster’s head, accompanied by another horrific scream. Its hand was gone, yet it didn’t die and instead became even more frenzied. Claw marks etched deeply across the walls and floor in an instant.
“Damn! Even with a broken hand, it’s still so fierce!” We all watched the now completely berserk monster nervously. “Ye Xiang! Are you okay? If you’re still alive, hurry and tie the rope!”
Liu Yonglin struggled to stand, trying to speak but then gagged, vomiting as he did. “Ugh, this monster reeks!” He tossed aside his gun and stumbled into the room, rinsing his mouth vigorously.
The room was filled with the horrific sound of the zombie’s screeching as it crashed around aimlessly. The small yard was in complete disarray, no item left intact within it.
