The Journey of Resident Evil - Chapter 26 - Living Together Life

Even the most beautiful sunset eventually fades, and as darkness fell gradually, everyone suddenly felt hungry. Liu Qi led us to search for food. In the countryside, there is plenty of food as long as you’re willing to eat. In wartime, the real fear is running out of food, as it consumes a lot of energy.

After consuming a lot of corn, we found a large and hidden basement and moved several boxes of bombs and bullets there. For safety, everyone was armed with a gun. With so much explosive material in the armory, hiding there meant that even fighting hundreds of thousands of zombies wouldn’t be a problem.

On countless sleepless nights, I believe many people get used to closing their eyes and quietly missing someone, a face. In their hearts, having such a person to miss is perhaps enough. Some people, if you can’t wait for them, you just have to leave; some things, if you can’t have them, you just have to give up; some pasts, whether they bring happiness or pain, can only be buried deep inside.

Is father still alive?

There are many beds here. Qimeng and I share a room.

Liu Qi, Liu Yin, Liu Feng, Qian Jing, Sun Jing, all with the surname Liu, sometimes it gets so confusing, I don’t even know what name to use.

Ye Xiang and Ye Ling share a room. I had already sensed something ambiguous between them, so I arranged it this way. Qimeng and I share a room, Shen Wei is with Liu Yonglin, and Xueqi, I didn’t feel comfortable leaving her alone, so she stayed with me.

Xueqi is beautiful, both in figure and otherwise. At night, I fell asleep holding two women for safety reasons, leaving two people on guard at the door. The night was very quiet, and there were no zombies likely to come here, probably most of the zombies around here were already dead.

Liu Yin and Liu Qi, being older than us, naturally took on more responsibility as the older brothers. They also volunteered to keep watch, and we did not object. When someone got too tired, we would switch who was on guard duty.

“Tiankuang, do you think we can survive this?” Qimeng asked.

Hearing Qimeng ask this, I tightened my grip on both their hands and paused, “We will survive! I believe those researching resident evil will find a way to handle this!”

Though it was just a comforting thought, I believed it too. We would definitely make it.

“We will survive! We’ll live to see the day when the zombies are gone.”

“Tian, if we survive, after all this is over, can the three of us stay together?” Xueqi asked.

“Of course, we’ll always be together, never apart. And Ye Xiang, Liu Yonglin, Ye Ling, Xueyang, Shen Wei, all of us will be together. Forever, never apart.”

Even though I didn’t know whether I would be alive or dead next year, I wanted to give Qimeng and Xueqi hope, and to give myself hope as well.

“Hehe. Tian, that’s wonderful! We’ll always be together, never apart!” Xueqi laughed, hugging me tightly!

“Sigh,” I took a deep breath, “Let’s go to sleep early! Later, we might need to switch with Liu Qi and the others; they’re tired too! Let’s sleep for a while!”

Qimeng’s expression shifted, showing a sweet smile, and with a “pop,” she left a kiss on my forehead.

The night passed without words. When I woke up, it was already daylight, and we had spent a peaceful night. I slept soundly and comfortably, feeling my hands go numb. I opened my eyes and was startled to see two girls sleeping in my arms-it took me a moment to remember that they were Qimeng and Xueqi.

I gently moved their heads to the side, careful not to wake them. My movements were very gentle, but I still managed to wake Qimeng.

“Qimeng, sweetie, sleep a little longer. I’m going to check outside.”

Qimeng looked at me with wide eyes and blinked, signaling her agreement. I walked out of the room, and Qimeng slowly closed her eyes and continued to sleep.

I walked to the door and saw Liu Feng and Qian Jing had taken over the night watch. They smiled awkwardly, “Sorry about that! We were just too exhausted yesterday. We had agreed that I would take the night shift.

“No worries, you guys are younger, we’re used to this,” Liu Feng said. “Besides, nothing happened last night, but I did notice something.”

“What is it?” Qian Jing and I asked together.

Liu Feng thought for a moment and then shared, “A few days ago, I noticed that zombies seem to be blind at night. Also, they become more fragile and slower in response when it’s hot. I’m not entirely sure, but it seems to be the case!”

Hearing this from Liu Feng, I also remembered something from our time at school when the sun was very intense, and indeed, the zombies were quite sluggish.

We hadn’t seen any at night.

This discovery is great! It’s summer now.

After chatting with Liu Feng and Qian Jing for a while, Ye Xiang came over! Like me, he gave an awkward smile and rubbed his eyes, “Sorry, I was really too tired!”

Everyone laughed, not at Ye Xiang, but just out of happiness.

“Didn’t spot anything unusual yesterday, did you?” Ye Xiang asked.

“If there had been something, do you think you could have slept so soundly?” I punched him playfully in the chest. “Did you sleep well last night?”

“It was okay!”

“Liu Feng discovered an amazing secret, want to know what it is?” I teased.

“Of course!” Ye Xiang perked up immediately when he heard about the amazing secret.

“Actually, it turns out that zombies seem to fear the sun. At noon, when the sun is high and temperatures are up, zombies become very slow to respond,” Liu Feng explained.

“Really?”

Before I could answer, Liu Yonglin patted me on the shoulder, “Good morning, Tiankuang, Liu Feng, Qian Jing, Ye Xiang! I was so tired last night!”

“Haha, everyone starts with that!” Qian Jing also added, “No worries, you guys are younger after all! It’s right for you to sleep a bit more!”

“Qimeng, Xueqi, you’re awake!” I saw Qimeng and Xueqi walking towards us.

“Yes, Tiankuang.”

“Tian, we’re going to make breakfast for you guys! Hee hee.”

Soon, everyone was up and gathered together. The girls were cooking corn we had picked from the fields yesterday, and there were also watermelons and some other fruits.

“If only these were peaceful times!”

Liu Yonglin and I said this simultaneously. We looked at each other and laughed. “Ah, good brother,” I hugged Liu Yonglin and patted his back.

Ye Xiang saw Liu Yonglin and me embracing. “You two, aren’t you hungry yet?”

Back then, I would have thought you two were in a relationship!

“Come on, join in the hug!”

“Let’s survive this, good brother!”

“Good brother!”

“Good sisters!”

I saw Qimeng, Xueqi, and Shen Wei also hugging each other.

Jokingly, I said, “What’s with you ladies joining in on our men’s affairs?”

“We are good sisters, and you are good brothers; we are all in this together!”

Alright. Let’s eat!

“Whatever!” We all exclaimed at the same time!

The meal was very fulfilling and joyful!

At noon, with the sun high in the sky, we stepped out of the basement into the yard. To guard against zombies, everyone was armed with a gun, and we tightly closed the basement door to prevent any zombies from entering. If a zombie got in, it would be the end of us.

When we reached the yard, the zombies from yesterday’s blast were gone! Completely vanished!

What happened here??

The zombies we blew up yesterday were all gone?

Ye Xiang and I rushed upstairs frantically but saw no trace of them. The zombies from yesterday were nowhere to be found. Ye Xiang frantically scanned the area, saw nothing, but then noticed a graceful figure under the palm tree by building three.

A spark of interest lit up my eyes, and my gloom instantly disappeared. Was there still someone there?

Suddenly, I saw someone under the tree-a young girl with long hair, looking very clean.
