The Journey of Resident Evil - Chapter 24 - The Armory
“Get lost! If you saw it, you saw it. It’s not like you’ll die from it. I might even kiss her for you to see.” I hugged Qimeng again and kissed her on the cheek. I didn’t know how I became so bold; it was my first time kissing Qimeng on my own initiative.
Qimeng blushed shyly, and seeing Ye Xiang, I felt quite happy. We were all alive. As long as we’re alive, there’s hope. Being alive is great. Having gone through life and death makes us brothers in life and death. These days, it’s hard to have such brothers. I didn’t know why, but I started reminiscing about the past, about those friends. If only I had led our class in leaving from the start, how great that would have been. A whole class would have more fighting power. It’s all my fault for being too selfish.
I regretted it, regretted it deeply. My teachers, classmates, friends, I fell into deep thought: “If only I had called for our class to leave together from the beginning! It’s all my fault for being too selfish.”
“This isn’t your fault. Now isn’t the time for self-blame. We should find more survivors so that everyone can fight together. That’s the key, right, Tiankuang?” Qimeng said, hugging me.
“How about the others?” I asked Ye Xiang.
“Heh, they’re all fine, just a little scratched up,” Ye Xiang said with a chuckle.
“As long as they’re okay, as long as they’re okay.” I repeated those words a few times. I really needed friends. I patted Ye Xiang on the shoulder, “It’s okay now. I’m okay too.”
“Where should we go now?” I asked. Let’s go find the other survivors. If they haven’t mutated, they’re friends, they’re brothers.
“Sounds good. Although it’s a bit dangerous, it’s thrilling,” Ye Xiang laughed. Just when you’re about to die and find out you’re alive again, that feeling is truly wonderful!
Ye Ling, Qimeng, Ye Xiang, Liu Yonglin, Xueyang, Shen Wei, Xueqi, and I, Zhang Tiankuang, geared up. Let’s go.
At that moment, Liu Yonglin ran over. “Ye Xiang, Tiankuang, Qimeng, you’re all here. Haha, do you know what I’ve found?”
“Guns, guns! And there are loads of them in that armory, along with bullets and bombs.”
“No way, that’s awesome! Great guns, now we’re not afraid anymore, haha.” I laughed as I took the machine gun from Liu Yonglin’s hands.
“Wow, it’s so heavy!”
Qimeng supported me and said, “You’re not fully healed yet. Be careful!”
“Haha, Qimeng really cares about Tiankuang. You’re one lucky guy,” Ye Xiang complimented.
“Shut it, I am lucky.”
While happiness is one thing, there are still so many people who aren’t as fortunate. Maybe some are still hiding, just trying to get by.
More terrifying than World War II, resident evil, zombies?
“What about the others?” Ye Xiang asked.
“They’re outside. Let me call them in,” Liu Yonglin said, then stepped out to see Ye Ling, Qimeng, Xueyang, Shen Wei, and Xueqi. They were back, looking quite flustered.
Seeing them return so anxiously, Liu Yonglin asked, “What’s wrong!”
“It’s bad. Those zombies are coming again. What do we do?” Shen Wei exclaimed urgently!
Hearing that zombies were approaching, I quickly ran out, “How many are there?”
“Not many, but we don’t know if there are more behind them, over twenty,” Xueyang said.
“Don’t worry, we have guns. Even a hundred wouldn’t scare us. Let’s go to the armory.”
A hundred? The armory has plenty of ammunition. Even if many come, with bombs, why worry?
Liu Yonglin led us to the armory. Seeing the ammunition there gave me a shock. It wasn’t like Liu Yonglin described at all. More than just a few guns, there were so many.
I picked up a machine gun, feeling the barrel. A new gun, unused. I walked to the entrance with the gun, “I’ll try it out first to make sure it works. Can’t have it failing us later.”
“Bang.”
“Haha, it works, haha.”
“Come on, I’m waiting for you. I’ll be right here. Ye Ling, Qimeng, Xueyang, Shen Wei, Xueqi, help us load the bullets.”
If too many come, it might be too late to load the bullets, and then we’d be doomed. Better to be careful. Besides, this gun is a bit heavy for the girls, and even if we die, we need to leave a way to escape. But these bullets aren’t here for show!
“It’s fine. We’ll watch you three handle the shooting.”
Waiting can be quite the ordeal. You wish for them to come, and they don’t; when you don’t want them to come, they do. Isn’t that frustrating?
“Let’s go take a look,” I said, stepping forward.
Oh gosh! They’re here. How reckless would it be to head out now? Close the iron gate. It’s thick, possibly bomb-resistant, with several small openings on the window. Not really sure what they’re for! I positioned myself and set up the machine gun, ready for the zombies’ arrival. This yard seemed to be military-grade-not too big, not too small, but soon, around twenty zombies made their way into it.
“Should we start shooting?”
“They’re still looking around! Let them wander a bit!” I chuckled. Just playing the waiting game.
Seeing all these zombies makes me so frustrated! Because of all this, the school is gone, and so many friends and brothers-who knows where they are now.
Alive or dead-it’s all uncertain!
At that moment, a group of zombies started swarming towards the armory. Their movement couldn’t even be called walking!
Damn it. I’ll bomb you all to hell.
“Qimeng, pass me a hand grenade.” The more I looked, the angrier I got.
“Here you go, Tiankuang.”
I took the hand grenade from Qimeng, pulled the pin, and threw it toward the group of zombies.
“Boom!”
“Blow them to bits!”
After a moment, as the smoke cleared, the ground was littered with zombie corpses. Bite once, and you’re a zombie; didn’t get bit, and you’re still human. That’s where the difference lies!
Good people, turned into zombies!
The smell of the corpses attracted another horde of zombies. Group after group began to surround us.
“Do we use guns or bombs?” Ye Xiang asked, though it was rhetorical at this point. With so many zombies, of course, bombs are the way to go!
“Bombs! Let’s blow them up,” Liu Yonglin said.
“On my count of three, let’s throw together!”
Let’s not end up injuring ourselves. Once we throw, cover your ears.
“Be careful,” Qimeng said with concern as she handed us the hand grenades.
I patted Qimeng on the shoulder to reassure her. “It’s okay, we’ve got plenty of ammunition here. Don’t worry. No matter how many there are, we’ll take them down!”
“Ye Xiang, Liu Yonglin.”
“Boom, boom, boom!” Three hand grenades were thrown simultaneously. Everyone covered their ears.
Ye Ling, Qimeng, Xueyang, Shen Wei, and Xueqi huddled together in a tight group.
