The Cold President's Adorkable Girlfriend - Chapter 7
“Yueya, why are you here? Is there something you need?” Secretary Huang asked as she noticed He Yueya peeking around.
It was barely 9 a.m., so why was Yueya here already? Could she be looking for her bracelet? Secretary Huang was full of questions.
“I’m here to see your President,” He Yueya replied honestly.
Indeed, she was here to see the President, because he had called her yesterday, instructing her to report to his office at 9 a.m. today.
“You’re here to see the President?” Secretary Huang thought she must have misheard.
“Yes,” He Yueya nodded.
“What business do you have with him?” Although Yueya seemed certain, Secretary Huang was still skeptical and wanted to confirm.
“He told me to come see him at 9 a.m. today,” He Yueya explained, pointing towards the President’s office.
“He told you to come?” Secretary Huang asked again for confirmation.
“Yes, unless he’s changed his mind? That’s fine, I can leave now,” Yueya said as she turned towards the elevator.
At that moment, the President’s office door opened. “How do you know I’ve changed my mind? Did I tell you that?” Xu Kaihan walked straight towards her.
“Secretary Huang, from today onward, she’ll be my special assistant,” Xu Kaihan said to the still-stunned Secretary Huang.
“Oh, understood,” Secretary Huang nodded, though her expression clearly showed she had no idea what was going on.
So that’s why the President had ordered a new desk and chair set for his office last week-it was for Yueya. But why hadn’t he told her that the recent new hire was Yueya? Isn’t every new employee supposed to report to the Human Resources Department first? Why was Yueya going directly to the President? Secretary Huang had so many questions.
“I believe you two aren’t strangers, so I won’t bother with introductions,” Xu Kaihan said casually.
“President, what exactly will her responsibilities be?” Secretary Huang asked as she watched the two heading into the President’s office.
“Her tasks will be assigned directly by me. Your responsibilities will remain unchanged,” Xu Kaihan said as he stopped and turned to face Secretary Huang.
“Understood,” Secretary Huang replied softly.
Although Yueya was a bit adorkable, she was also kind, warm, and enthusiastic. Becoming her colleague was definitely a good thing. Secretary Huang was happy about this-she had always liked Yueya.
“From now on, you’ll sit here,” Xu Kaihan said, pointing to the new desk and chair set in his office.
“Okay,” He Yueya said as she walked over to her new spot.
“How is it? Are you satisfied?” Xu Kaihan asked as he watched Yueya curiously explore her new desk and chair.
Her outfit today was a bit different from her usual look. Normally, she dressed casually, but today she wore a formal pink suit-likely something she had bought at the last minute. Even her usual flat sandals had been replaced with low-heeled leather shoes. Although the heels were barely raised, it was obvious that walking in them was making her feet uncomfortable.
“Yeah, I really like it,” He Yueya said cheerfully.
This was the first time I’ve ever had a space of my own, so I feel extraordinarily excited, she thought.
“As long as you like it. Come over here and have some breakfast,” Xu Kaihan said, pulling her toward the sofa.
“But it’s work hours now! How can I eat during work hours?” He Yueya protested as she tried to get up.
“In here, you can do whatever you want. Don’t worry about anything else,” Xu Kaihan said firmly, gently pressing her back down as she struggled.
He Yueya looked at him, bewildered.
“Is that hard to understand? I thought I’d made myself clear. Forget it-if words aren’t enough, then I’ll have to demonstrate with actions,” Xu Kaihan said before leaning in and pressing his lips to hers.
Sweeter than I imagined, Xu Kaihan thought as he deepened the kiss slowly. It wasn’t until he felt her body trembling in his arms that he reluctantly let her go.
“What’s wrong?” Xu Kaihan asked, noticing tears falling from her eyes like broken strings of pearls. Inwardly, he berated himself furiously.
He Yueya shook her head repeatedly, her eyes showing pure fear.
“Xiaoya, I’m sorry,” Xu Kaihan said, gently cradling her head between his hands.
“Grandma said the person who gives me my first kiss has to be the one who loves me the most. You’re not the one who loves me most-why did you kiss me?” He Yueya accused, staring at him.
“Your first kiss?” Xu Kaihan’s heart surged with joy at her words. “I’m the first person to kiss you?” he asked excitedly.
“Yes,” He Yueya replied with a firm nod.
“Don’t cry, okay?” Xu Kaihan said softly, wiping away the tears that were breaking his heart.
“Grandma told me that I should save my first kiss for the person who loves me the most. Now that you’ve taken it, how am I supposed to find that person?” He Yueya said, her voice full of grievance.
“Alright, stop pouting. I am the one who loves you the most,” Xu Kaihan said, playfully pinching her nose.
“But Grandma also told me that rich men are never good men,” He Yueya said innocently.
“Silly girl, not everything your grandma says is right. There are good rich men too,” he said with a chuckle.
He made a mental note to someday sit her down and thoroughly “wash her brain”-to clear all the nonsense out of this adorkable girl’s muddled head, Xu Kaihan silently planned.
“But it really is the truth, isn’t it?” she insisted.
“And how would you know? Have you experienced it yourself?” Xu Kaihan asked, amused.
This pure-hearted, adorkable girl took everything people said at face value. She absorbed others’ words without question and never analyzed anything for herself. He couldn’t help but worry that if someone ever tried to trick her into something terrible, she would probably even help count the cash they made out of scamming her.
“I…” He Yueya lowered her head, nervously fiddling with the edge of her sleeve.
Better to keep it to myself, she thought. Family troubles shouldn’t be aired in public. She let out a long sigh in her heart.
“All right, don’t think about it anymore. Eat your breakfast,” Xu Kaihan said, setting the breakfast tray in front of her and placing the chopsticks in her hand.
“Thank you!” she whispered, lowering her head as she quietly began to eat.
“There’s no need to thank me,” Xu Kaihan said softly.
He believed it was his responsibility to look after her, and if she kept thanking him every time he did something for her, it would probably leave a strange, uncomfortable feeling in his heart.
“What should I do now?” He Yueya asked, looking at him as he busily pored over a document.
After breakfast, he told her to do whatever she wanted and then effectively left her alone to kill time, unsure of what to do with herself.
“There are some magazines over there; you can read those. Or, if you’d like, you can use the computer to browse for something that interests you,” Xu Kaihan said, glancing up briefly before tossing a magazine toward her, catching the bored look on her face.
Holding the magazine, she trudged back to her desk and listlessly flipped through the pages. Why did her eyes feel so tired? She was so sleepy.
No! It’s still work hours; I can’t take a nap now, she told herself firmly.
But maybe it’s not that big of a deal? There’s nothing to do anyway. Just a one-minute nap. Surely no one will notice, right?
Absolutely not! Napping in the office could get you caught at any moment, she counter-argued in her head.
Unless… what if I just use the magazine as a shield? One minute should be fine. Just one minute.
Thus began He Yueya’s tug-of-war with her own drowsiness. In the end, the sleepy bug won out over her resolve.
At the moment, He Yueya’s head was propped up by her hand, her half-closed eyes reduced to narrow slits.
Thud.
Eventually, her head gave way and hit the desk with a soft but audible bump.
The sound immediately caught the attention of Xu Kaihan, who was deeply focused on his paperwork.
He suppressed a laugh, shaking his head in helpless amusement as he stood up. Grabbing the suit jacket hanging over the back of his chair, he walked over to the now-sleeping He Yueya.
This girl could really sleep, huh? Even after making such a noise, she didn’t stir at all and just continued her nap as if nothing had happened. He admired her ability to find peace like this and gazed at her sleeping face, his heart swelling with a quiet sense of happiness and fulfillment.
Ever so gently, he draped his jacket over her. Then, moving with quiet care so as not to wake her, he tiptoed back to his desk.
“Mm, don’t bother me, let me sleep,” He Yueya mumbled, swatting her hand as if she were shooing away a fly.
“Wake up already-it’s time for lunch. If you miss it, don’t blame me,” Xu Kaihan teased, using a strand of her hair to tickle her face.
She had been sleeping for three hours now. This girl could nap like no one else.
“Stop bothering me, Li Er, just ten more minutes, okay?” He Yueya murmured, caught in that hazy state between sleep and wakefulness.
“Adorkable Girl, wake up already! It’s lunchtime,” Xu Kaihan said, leaning in close and blowing softly in her ear.
He wasn’t the least bit annoyed. In fact, he found moments like this strangely heartwarming. But then again, his patience was reserved for He Yueya alone. If it had been any other woman, this scenario would never have played out.
“Just a little while longer… ten more minutes,” He Yueya mumbled, still half-asleep and negotiating as if in a dream.
Without another word, Xu Kaihan scooped her up in his arms and headed toward the lounge. He was convinced there was only one way to fully wake her up at this point.
After placing her on a bed in the lounge, he walked into the attached bathroom, wet a towel with cold water, and carefully laid the chilly fabric on her deeply slumbering face.
“Wahhh-so cold!” He Yueya shot straight up, sitting upright like a spring-loaded toy.
“Finally awake, huh?” Xu Kaihan said, leaning close with a playful grin.
“Wait, why is it you? What are you doing here?” He Yueya exclaimed, scrambling backward on the bed.
“What do you think?” he asked with a half-smile. “You certainly looked like you were enjoying your nap.”
“Ahhh!” she cried, finally remembering what had happened.
“Come on, it’s time for lunch,” Xu Kaihan announced as he reached out and scooped her up again.
“Put me down!” He Yueya protested, pounding her tiny fists against his shoulders.
“A little to the left… up slightly… yeah, right there! Harder, please,” Xu Kaihan teased, feigning satisfaction.
“Do you think I’m giving you a massage?!” she snapped, glaring at him with exasperation.
“Aren’t you?” he asked innocently, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes.
Annoyed, He Yueya turned her head away, refusing to look at him.
“What do you feel like eating?” he asked, glancing down at her sulking face.
“Hmph!” she huffed, refusing to answer.
This adorkable girl didn’t seem as afraid of him as she used to be. That was a good sign. Looking at the pout on her face, for the first time, Xu Kaihan found himself thinking that an angry woman could actually be… kind of cute.
“If you’re not going to say, then I’ll just take you out and decide myself,” he declared casually, holding her securely in his arms.
“Where are you taking me?” she asked, her tone laced with nervous urgency.
If he took her to Li Er Cha Chaan Teng, she’d be in serious trouble. If Li Er saw them like this, she would definitely misunderstand the situation.
“Where do you want to go?” Xu Kaihan asked, giving her the chance to decide.
“I don’t really feel like eating out,” He Yueya mumbled, unable to think of a place to go.
“In that case, we’ll just have to order takeaway. But Secretary Huang has likely already left to eat, and I don’t have the phone number for takeaway services. So, it looks like you’ll have to call Li Er Cha Chaan Teng and place the order,” Xu Kaihan suggested with a straight face.
“Fine, let’s just eat out instead,” He Yueya replied reluctantly, throwing him a helpless look.
“All right then, how about Korean food?” Xu Kaihan proposed with a subtle smile.
“Yes! I love bibimbap!” He Yueya said excitedly, her enthusiasm bubbling over.
Xu Kaihan reached out and gently rubbed the top of her head, as if trying to preserve the innocence and joy she exuded at that moment.
