The Cold President's Adorkable Girlfriend - Chapter 4
“Secretary Huang, may I leave the bento on your desk?” He Yueya asked while watching Secretary Huang working on her computer.
“Yueya, could you help me take the bento to the President’s office? I need to leave early today,” Secretary Huang said, pointing towards the President’s office. She grabbed her handbag and headed out for dinner.
“Oh, alright then.” He Yueya walked to the President’s office door and knocked lightly.
Knock knock… Knock knock…
No one? What should I do? Maybe I can just leave the bento inside quickly and leave right away. That shouldn’t be a problem, right?
He Yueya gently pushed the door open. “Anyone here? I’m coming in.”
There really isn’t anyone here. As expected of a multinational corporation, the President’s office is outrageously luxurious. But the décor feels so cold-black leather chairs, black curtains, black sofas. It seems Xu Group’s new President has a thing for black. No, to be more precise, this setup truly reflects the character of Xu Group’s new President. Just as the rumors outside say, he’s cold to the extreme.
Wait, there’s even a bar here? Why would there be a bar in an office? Don’t tell me there’s even a kitchen? He Yueya placed the bento on the low glass coffee table near the sofa and walked towards the bar to explore, completely forgetting her original intention of dropping off the bento and leaving.
There is a kitchen! And there’s another room over there. Like discovering a new continent, He Yueya ran towards it.
“Ouch! My leg!” she groaned, clutching her shin after bumping into a chair, hopping in place in pain.
“Are you an idiot? Didn’t I tell you to watch where you’re going? Why are you always so clumsy?” Xu Kaihan strode over to the hopping He Yueya.
The moment he heard knocking at the door, he had stepped out of the lounge. And this is the scene that greeted him. It seems she’s truly not your average adorkable person.
“What are you doing here?” He Yueya asked, her mouth agape, staring at Xu Kaihan as he approached her.
Today, he was wearing a black suit paired with a white shirt and a dark purple tie. Coupled with his towering height of 190cm, he could easily outshine most runway models.
Back in the restaurant that day, she had been so caught up in conversation with him that she hadn’t taken a good look.
He really was strikingly handsome. So cool. Those slender eyes, thick eyebrows, neatly styled short hair, a well-defined nose, and those firmly pressed lips that exuded an air of unapproachable authority.
“Is your leg alright?” he asked, crouching down to examine her shin.
“You’re very good-looking, but you’d be even better-looking if you smiled,” she replied, completely missing the question as she stared at his stoic face.
“Does it hurt here?” Xu Kaihan asked as he gently massaged the spot on her shin that had turned red from the bump.
He certainly knew he was handsome; many had complimented him on his looks before, but her praise always made him exceptionally happy. She was also the first one to make him laugh.
“Ouch, that really hurts,” He Yueya pouted in pain.
“Good, if you know it hurts, you’ll be more careful next time,” Xu Kaihan carefully rolled up her pant leg to examine her injury.
“Huh?” He Yueya looked at him, puzzled.
Xu Kaihan didn’t answer; instead, he picked her up and placed her on the sofa, “Sit down, don’t move,” he commanded sternly.
“I need to go back now. When your President returns, please tell him I left his bento here,” He Yueya said, pointing to the bento on the table as she looked at his retreating back.
She carefully lowered her pant leg, which Xu Kaihan had rolled up, and prepared to leave.
What bad luck, to bump into things like this. When she got back, she was sure to be scolded by Li Er, calling her an idiot. He Yueya limped toward the door.
“You really know how to test my limited patience. I told you to sit still and not move, yet you ignore my words,” Xu Kaihan yelled as he walked out of the lounge with a medicine box in his hand.
“I have to go back now, or Li Er will think I’ve caused more trouble,” He Yueya stopped her silly movements and turned to whisper to him.
Why is he like this? He was so pleasant last time at the Cha Chaan Teng. Why does it seem like he has a grudge against me today? His angry face is really scary. He Yueya watched his elongated face with some fear.
“Stay right there, don’t move,” Xu Kaihan ordered the adorkable girl once again.
His stern tone startled He Yueya; why was he so fierce? She just wanted to go back to the shop.
“We should leave here soon. It won’t look good if your President comes back and sees us wandering around his office,” He Yueya mustered the courage to remind him kindly.
Xu Kaihan picked up the adorkable girl still standing by the door and placed her back on the sofa.
“Sit tight, I’ll apply some medicine.”
Despite his cold voice, there was a hint of care and concern.
He Yueya was frightened by his cold voice and expression, tears swirling in her eyes.
She was naturally timid, and all her friends knew it, so they never raised their voices at her. Even if she caused trouble, they would just scold her a bit and let it be, since it wasn’t intentional. Her adorkable nature often got her into trouble, and she usually ended up hurting herself. His cold tone had really scared her just now.
“Does it hurt?” Xu Kaihan asked, looking up at the unusually quiet He Yueya.
She shook her head silently, afraid that if she opened her mouth, her tears would spill out.
“If it doesn’t hurt, then why are you crying?” Xu Kaihan’s eyes focused on the tears welling up in hers. His chest tightened at the sight. He’d only met her three times, yet twice he’d seen her crying. It seemed she wasn’t just an adorkable Girl-she was also a little crybaby.
She still bit her lip, shaking her head with an expression of pure helplessness.
“If it really hurts, just cry it out. Don’t hold it in. I won’t laugh at you,” Xu Kaihan said softly, noticing how she was trying so hard to endure the pain. His heart softened.
This adorkable Girl was usually lost in her own world, but who would’ve thought she could be so strong now? He looked into her watery eyes, and for a moment, he didn’t know what to say.
“Am I pressing too hard?” Xu Kaihan asked while massaging her injured knee. He glanced at her, still waiting for a response.
“N-no, it’s not that,” He Yueya shook her head, denying.
“Then why are you trembling and crying at the same time?” Xu Kaihan frowned, starting to feel a mix of irritation and concern.
“I… I… I…” He Yueya stuttered, her head hanging low, avoiding his gaze.
She was genuinely terrified of him right now. Deep in her heart, she vowed never to speak to him again, let alone see him.
“Look at me when you speak,” Xu Kaihan said, his patience waning but his tone still low. Her tears made him feel inexplicably frustrated.
“I… I… I…” she stammered again, her gaze flitting from his shoes to his chest, his shoulders, and finally landing awkwardly on his face. But she couldn’t look at him for more than a second or two before she quickly looked away.
“Are you afraid of me?” Xu Kaihan cupped her chin gently, turning her face toward him so she couldn’t avoid his eyes.
“Maybe… just a little,” He Yueya admitted, staring at his perfectly groomed jawline, her voice shaking.
His jawline was so clean and well-maintained-it was evident he paid attention to his grooming. She couldn’t help but think to herself: if he didn’t shave for a month, he’d probably look even cooler with some scruff. She used these stray thoughts to distract herself from the fear welling up in her chest.
“Why the hell are you afraid of me?” Xu Kaihan asked, suppressing his temper but growing impatient.
He wanted to know what exactly was going on in that scatterbrained head of hers.
“I… I don’t know…” He Yueya muttered, her voice barely audible.
But that wasn’t the truth, at least not in her mind. The truth was, it was all his fault. If he hadn’t been so cold and harsh, she wouldn’t have been scared of him. And now he was pretending to care, asking her why she was afraid. Hypocritical much?
“You don’t know?” Xu Kaihan raised a brow. “Last week at the Cha Chaan Teng, you weren’t afraid of me at all,” he said, his temper barely restrained, teetering on the edge of a full eruption.
“Last time, you didn’t snap at me.”
“If you’d behave a little better, stop being so scatterbrained, and not make people worry about you so much, how could I possibly get mad at you?” Xu Kaihan replied in what he considered his gentlest tone.
“But I’m just naturally this adorkable. I don’t mean to be! It’s not like I want to be this way,” He Yueya said, pouting in frustration.
His sudden change in tone made her feel a bit less intimidated.
Xu Kaihan sighed inwardly, utterly helpless. How on earth had he fallen for such an adorkable Girl?
It seemed like his life was destined to get a lot more chaotic from now on. But if that chaos was because of her, he found himself strangely… looking forward to it.
“Where’s the bento you brought?” he asked, shifting the topic.
“The bento! Right, your President’s bento is over there,” He Yueya said, pointing to the container sitting on the low table.
“Have you eaten yet?” Xu Kaihan asked.
“No, I haven’t. Oh, but I really should get going now. You should leave too. If your President comes back and sees us in his office, that won’t look so good,” He Yueya said, lightly pushing at Xu Kaihan, who was still crouched in front of her.
“Let’s go. I’ll take you out to eat and then drop you home,” Xu Kaihan said, carefully rolling down her pant leg and helping her stand up from the sofa.
“No way! If Sister Li Er sees you dropping me off, she’ll scold me again,” He Yueya protested, pulling her hand free from his.
“Why would she scold you?” Xu Kaihan asked, genuinely confused.
“Because I’m always getting tricked by people. So if Sister Li Er sees me hanging out with strangers, she’s bound to blow up at me,” He Yueya explained with a small pout.
“I’m not a stranger. We’ve already met before.” Well, apart from that time she spilled the bento-but she didn’t seem to remember that incident at all.
“Really, it’s fine. Don’t bother. Besides, if you’re late to work and your manager yells at you, that’ll be awful,” she said, trying to politely decline his offer.
“It doesn’t matter. Even if I don’t show up for work, there’s no one here who would dare scold me,” Xu Kaihan replied matter-of-factly.
He desperately wanted to sit her down one day and figure out exactly how that dizzy little head of hers worked. Not only was she scatterbrained, but she was completely oblivious. Was it that hard to see that he was, in fact, the President?
“You must be joking. Only the boss could say something like that!” He Yueya said with a laugh, assuming he was teasing her to lighten the mood.
“Exactly,” Xu Kaihan replied, thinking she’d finally caught on.
“You know that, but you’re still joking around,” she said, rolling her eyes at him.
Was it that she just didn’t believe he was the boss? Or was she convinced he was messing with her? Either way, the result was the same-she refused to recognize Xu Kaihan as the President of Xu Group.
Xu Kaihan was thoroughly defeated by her obliviousness.
