Li Juefeng let out a cold chuckle as he stepped inside, shrugging off his long coat and tossing it onto the rack. A strong wave of women’s perfume wafted from him.
She recognized it immediately-it was the same scent Su Xuanxuan had worn yesterday.
Gu Xiaoai lowered her foot, her brows knitting together as she glanced over at him. Li Juefeng stood with his back to her, the crisp white collar of his shirt bearing a conspicuous lipstick stain-fiery red lips imprinted clearly.
Housekeeper Tong had said he had important business to attend to. So this was his “important business”? Fooling around with a married woman?
And then… leaving her locked up in this room? Waiting for him to summon her on a whim when he felt like it?
The expression on Gu Xiaoai’s face turned unmistakably disdainful. Fixing her gaze on his straight-backed figure, she spoke bluntly, “Li Juefeng, what exactly are you trying to do?”
Li Juefeng turned around, his eyes cold as they swept over her. Ignoring her question, he countered with one of his own, “Going on a hunger strike? Gu Xiaoai, do you really think such a petty trick… will make me let you go?”
His tone carried a mocking edge, a faint smirk tugging at his lips.
“This is illegal detention!” Gu Xiaoai shot back, only to see Li Juefeng’s face twist into an amused, almost taunting expression. It hit her then-this was the same man who had dared to assault a police officer in a police station. Why would he care about something as trivial as legality?
Loosening his tie, Li Juefeng sank into the sofa nearby. With a casual snap of his fingers, a gesture laced with a certain roguish charm, he called out, “Come in.”
“Yes, Mr. Li.”
Housekeeper Tong’s deferential voice sounded from behind Gu Xiaoai.
She turned, puzzled, to see Housekeeper Tong leading a group of maids into the room. They pushed in several food carts laden with an array of dishes. Chinese cuisine, Italian fare, French delicacies… the carts were piled high with an assortment of meals.
Her stomach betrayed her with a faint growl.
Did he really think he could tempt her with food?
“I said I don’t want to eat.” Gu Xiaoai turned her head away from the feast, deliberately avoiding the sight of the dishes. She walked over to the sofa opposite Li Juefeng and sat down. “Li Juefeng, let me go.”
“Oh? Give me a reason.” Li Juefeng leaned back leisurely, his gaze fixed on her with an air of indifference. Yet, deep in his dark eyes, a storm of restrained anger brewed. His chest rose and fell slightly, betraying his agitation.
The moment he received Housekeeper Tong’s call about her refusal to eat, he had sped home like a madman.
And yet, she seemed utterly oblivious, focused solely on demanding her release.
“First, you’re not short of women. There’s no reason for you to keep me locked up just for your amusement. Second, I’m not a criminal. You have no right to restrict my freedom like this. Third, if you don’t let me go, I’ll starve to death in your room.”
By the time Gu Xiaoai reached her third point, her voice had risen with frustration. Her teeth clenched, and her almond-shaped eyes glared at Li Juefeng, waiting for his response.
